Awful, Noisy and badly designed – Bought this unit to try and take the edge off our recent summer heat waves in a rental where no other option was avalible. Sadly dissapointed.. Where do I start? The unit is noisy, as to be expected the compressor is quite loud but makes a loud "bang" whenever it kicks in, which thankfully isn't too often as it never seems to shut off. … Read more
Fan for moving air is also brutally loud producing close to 80DB out of the wind stream next to the machine. (measured on a phone app, so not the most accurate)
Only seems to be able to reduce the temperature by 3 degrees no matter how long I run it in a bedroom that feels crowded with a double bed. (some of this is I suspect related somewhat to draught issues)
Only has a single Heat pipe, which creates negative pressure in the room, constantly drawing hot air inside which needs to be cooled.. a major design flaw.
References a Draining kit that is "optional" but isnt carried by Bunnings.
Has the most appaling window kit I have ever seen, does not fit in any window around my unit as it has a massive air gap above it I had to fill with cardboard and tape. I also had to tape the window kit in to stop the weight of the (uninsulated) exhaust pipe pulling it out of the window every 5 minutes.
Be Warned- No Back up service from Heller Australia – The Heller Portable Air Conditioner was purchased from Bunning's and had little use cooling down our bed room. The unit its-self was efficient but very loud (Bunnings did warn us that it would be). Problem came when we emptied the water collector and went to re-start. It would not go again so we called the importing agents. The air conditioner was… Read more
3 months out of its warranty. I did point out that 2 years is not a very good life for any air conditioning unit. The response from GAF Control Australia Pty. Ltd. is below;
"I have discussed this with my management and I regret to advise that because your product is now more than 3 months out of the 2-year warranty, we are no longer able to replace it under warranty
Sorry I can’t be of assistance this time."
I still find the response from Heller to be unacceptable and warn people about buying their equipment, It is the lower end as far as quality is concerned and the short life expectancy seems to be accepted by the importers. The saying, "you get what you pay for" may be applicable, but I am sure stronger consumer laws would see companies like GAF Control go out of business.
