Cheap Line Trimmer is going the distance – This $99 line trimmer has given four years of service, without maintenance. It was purchased for easy starting, and its light-weight suited my wife. Apart from an increase in line diameter to cut longer before tapping out new line I have spent nothing. Recently the plastic pulley that holds the rope, also has teeth to engage the metal dogs to the motor wore through. This made pull starting difficult.

The replacement part was ordered through Bunnings at a cost of $4, and is easy to repair yourself. Just make sure you study what you have when dismantling.

There is now a new model using a different fuel system.

Update 1/5/14. Sprags rusted stopping engagement of pull cord. Lubricant spayed to free up and works again. Going strong. It is easy to use, can handle long grass in a two stage cut and is easy to start after stopping to replace line. People write that it is hard to start. after pumping the fuel, put on the choke, hold open the throttle and pull the cord. When it kicks turn off the choke and pull the cord; it starts in two pulls.

Lightweight, easy to use, best of all cheap – THe Homelite is very easy to use, and can get into those hard to reach areas. I had no trouble replacing the line after I broke it by accident. It cuts very well and I was impressed with it. It's not to heavy to use. Like a previous poster, I have had this trimmer for a few years. No maintenance and the line was only replaced once. It has worked well in our yard and is great little piece of equipment. Why pay a few hundred dollars when you can have this for under $100? Cheap, gets in the hard to reach places
