I bought this in November 2025 to replace a petrol Makita MM4 snipper. I have around 400m2 of front and back yard to mow and then trim/edge, which I'll first use the Honda snipper for the edges and take a bit off the top in patchier parts of the lawn, then mow. I'll then go back to this Honda to detail cut the harder spots to reach, such as… Read more
around garden edges, under the little lemon tree, fence bottoms, etc. It handles everything I can throw at it admirably. It's an absolute doddle to use and performs very well - it feels like a quasi-professional unit to me!
Pros: - Lightweight skin, well balanced with the 4AH battery. The 2Ah isn't quite as nicely balanced but still good overall. Your arms don't feel sore after use, even 1+ hour constant use.
- Bump feeder works perfectly every time. I've not yet had to re-wind line though. I've heard it can be a little tricky.
- For a domestic battery snipper skin, build quality is impressive, with a fully metal trimmer head unit (except bump feeder and line housing, of course) and sturdy yet light motor/throttle/body. It feels very well built and the hand grip is ergonomic with minimal vibration. I used to get awful sore palms on the old petrol Makita, no matter how much I tightened the handgrip bolts. This thing has ZERO harsh vibrations.
- The standard included shoulder strap is adjustable and actually useful too, that's a bonus!
- Super powerful for a battery snipper, this thing actually outperforms my 25hp Makita MM4 petrol snipper in yard maintenance and lawn care. Of course, for heavy duty, tall/thick/densely overgrown grass, you'd still pick a petrol unit with steel blades.
- The battery life so far has truly impressed me. My 4Ah battery manages around an hour of trimming and snipping at mixed speeds, and if you only ever do full speed it still manages around 45-50 mins. The 2Ah should last ~25mins at full speed too. Not bad, Honda!
- for a whipper snipper, it's QUIET. Even for a battery one. If it wasn't spinning the head, you wouldn't know it's on. The brushless motor is super quiet on it. I'd even be confident using this in the late evening without inconveniencing neighbours for a quick tidy up of the yard! Ç
Which brings me to the one and only con I've found: No throttle lock and only a small travel in the throttle trigger. This makes it difficult to maintain a low speed trim other than by being very particular in the way you squeeze the throttle trigger. If you slip off the trigger for even 0.3 of a second, it shuts down and you have to flick the safety again to engage the throttle. A good safety feature, but can become annoying when you're trying to modulate the throttle and you were *only just* too soft on the trigger and then it interprets that "oh you want me to stop".
This was just a matter of getting used to it though, I've had multiple hours of runtime use now and I've got the hang of it. Overall, this is a very small flaw for what is otherwise an absolutely ripper unit. Worth every cent!
I am using it since about a year. Performance is consistent. A good quality product living to the expectations that we have from the esteemed Honda brand. Show details
I am basically happy with my purchase that replaced a 43-year-old Petrol Kawasaki Trimmer. The only reason I wouldn't give it top rating is that compared to my old trimmer the range on the the throttle control is too small. I find it difficult maintain a speed slower than full speed. Another small point is that the markings on the line holder could more easily visible so that it easier to line up the feed. Show details
I don't leave reviews normally; however, for this unit, I am happy to make an exception. This is the best lawn care piece of equipment I have used. Really is absolutely brilliant. It's not something you should have; it is something you totally must have. Show details
