Hoover Heritage 5110

Not a good product – Daftest thing I have ever bought. It worked once, then never again. I bought it as a backup for my ageing Miele, but it doesn’t cut the mustard. Heavy and awkward to manoeuvre, cord far too short, and generally useless. Sorry Hoover, but you will never sell me another vacuum cleaner. Back to Miele for me. Show details
Steer clear – We've had this vacuum for about 3 months and it's really poor. The suction is okay only if maintenance is kept up after each use - to do this you have to empty the canister and literally cut the hairs from the underside of the roller which get wrapped around it. Ours actually died today, due to the motor disintegrating after 20 minutes of… Read more
continuous operation. In the days leading up to its death, I noticed the motor would get very hot if used for longer than 10 minutes.
It will get the job done (hopefully for more than 1 year) but unless you get it really cheap and you keep on top of its maintenance, its a dud of a vacuum cleaner.
to conclude, I liked the red design theme, easy to release canister and matching red power cord of good quality, only issue is its a weak product which does not live up to the Hoover name and is sadly another reminder that the products which are built today are usually not up to the standard of which they were built previous .
Waste of money and energy – This vacuum cleaner model is not what I expect to be a Hoover. It doesn't even vacuum up crumbs of floor tiles. Fluffs get moved around and have to be picked up by hand. The handle kept slipping out, hard to use. The container had to be taken off to pull out the dirt, it wouldn't move into the container after about 20 uses. You also could hear the motor shutting off. Disappointing is the least I would say. Show details
Buyer Beware you have been told – Having had a Kleenmaid for about 12 years it died Great machine especially when you learn to recycle the bags!!! . Went to Godfreys in a hurry My mistake,i walked out with a piece of junk called a Hoover Heritage 5110, There is not one thing to recommend this vac. Sucks great for a minute maybe then the things full, the Replaceable filter is… Read more
clogged, lucky I have compressed air to clean it.Used daily for about 5 weeks and things are starting to fall to bits, handle wont stay put( clips- failed) brush stops rotating, rubber seal in hose has let go and blocks the hose .Generally spend some minutes daily getting the rotten thing to suck. .
Anyone who gives this more than a "terrible" review must never use it (as a vacuum cleaner).
Further to my review above ,I have come to the conclusion this is the worst anything I have ever… Read more
This is perfect – Everyone on this review is either mad or works for Dyson. I've had zero problems with this vac so far, it looks great and has never let me down since it arrived. I got it on sale from the godfreys website for $100 and $7 postage and could not be happier.
biggest load of rubbish on the market – No suction to speak of. Noisy. Useless at vacuuming. Do not buy this product at any cost. Keep away. Im on my third replacement model. Handle poorly constructed. Its just rubbish for the price.
Welcome to the world's worst vacuum cleaner! – I bought my vacuum cleaner 9 months ago. I have had to take it back for repairs twice during this time. The useless design is in the rotating bristles at the suction vent. My word what were they thinking??! I have carpets..yes.. carpets..and daughters..with long hair. The hair and fur from these tangle inextricable around that useless bristled… Read more
pole rendering it unable to rotate whatsoever..causing a burning smell..which is the poor rotating mechanism being forced into submission. I cannot return the vacuum cleaner because it is afyer the three initial months, and so am stuck with this misery. Do yourselves a favour. Steer clear of this machine.
such hard work – this vacuum is really really hard to maneuver, i did think it worked ok (my husband disagrees)but t is heavy, loud and blows a lot of hot dusty smelling air. Unless you are a body builder with hearing loss dot bother with this vacuum, its just way too much work! heavy, hard to maneuver, very loud
The worst suction of any vacuum I have owned in fifty years – After cleaning just two rooms I have to use another old vacuum to suck the dust out of the filters. I am on the verge of buying a Dyson or a shark because the Hoover Heritage 5110 is the vacuum that has the most complete loss of suction of any vacuum I have ever had. Put simply--it is a dud. It is lightweight It does not vacuum effectively. After a few minutes it is extremely weak at picking up dirt
Hoover insult its customers with this extremely sub standard device – We have had the Hoover Heritage 5110 for less than a year. In that time the power head has died 4 times!!! we have flat carpet with barely any pile height, so this is a very very weak power head, not fit for purpose. The power head died the first time on day 2 of ownership. It was taken back to Godfreys for repair. It took nearly a month to get… Read more
the machine back. That was the first time.
The filters consist of wadding encased in a cotton like fabric. After the first month the filters were clogged and badly abraded by grit. If the cyclonic system worked properly there is no way the top and bottom fabric filters would be so abraded ("sand blasted") by grit in this fashion. Godfreys advised after the sale that the filters should be changed once a month. At something over 20 dollars a month.
The machine is so hard to turn that the feebly designed and made retaining lug for the handle wore out after 2 months. Now, instead of turning the machine, the handle spins in its socket.
The power cord is too short. Further, the power plug is sub standard and imo should not have been electrically approved by government. The plug fitted to the Hoover is a sloppy fit in every power socket in my house. It falls out of every socket in the house with just normal movement of cord. If the cord moves, the plug falls out or breaks contact. No other plug on any other appliance in my house does this. The plug is not compatible with Australian electrical power outlets. Its fit is too sloppy. In my experience and opinion. The wall sockets for power in our house were replaced 8 months ago.
The powerhead belt broke for the first time in August 2013. I rang Godfreys who told me there were no stocks of the belt in Australia. It would be, they said, not until November before stocks arrived.
I rang an independent Hoover repairer who rang Hoover direct and confirmed this. They took apart an unsold unit and sent me the belt from it express post . Hoover claimed that I was the first person in Australia to break a belt on a 5110. Baloney to that one Hoover. I did not break it, it wore out and Hoover were too slack and stingy to hold the legally required spare part stock.
On getting the belt from Hoover I found it came with no fitting instructions and that it is very hard for a consumer to take apart the power head of 5110 in order to fit a new belt. I took the power head and belt to Godfreys who told me it would not get to the repair centre for a week and would take about 2 weeks to get back to me. I drove home and then got a phone call telling me that the belt was fitted - the manager had obtained belt replacement instructions and had done it herself. I drove all the way back and picked up the power head. Fitting cost $20. I asked for fitting instructions but Godfreys refused to release this apparently highly classified corporate information. I'll email Edward Snowden and see if he can help.
This machine may as well have been designed by Marquis de Sade. It could be a really good machine. The fact that it is not is the result of design. Hoover must want to go broke or something. I wonder how long it will be before the heap of junk is returned from the repairer. Sometime in 2014.
This model is not sold in shops other than Godfreys. The Hoover 5110 would not survive in the market place of widely distributed competing models, though Godfreys sales staff advised us not to buy it. After Godfreys used its special low price of $199 to get us in the shop and suggest something a 100 dollars dearer. If you are interested in the Heritage 5110 you can buy one at Godfreys today for the normal price of 300 bucks plus. Stock up on filters, belts, and powerheads and take it to an electrician to fit a proper wall plug and an overload reset button. This last thing would have prevented the recurrent powerhead failures, though goodness knows how weak it is if flat pile carpet like ours is too much for the poor little suck in. When it works, it performs really well Extremely hard to turn, horrible reliability, expensive fitlers, lack of spare parts.
High maintenance – I'm based in NZ and have had a Hoover Heritage for just over a year. While it does an excellent job of cleaning the carpet, you have to clean the vacuum A LOT to keep it working. Also I've already taken it in for repairs due to a faulty wire and the suction level for the hand attachment is extremely low (e.g. it won't pick up fluff, I have to pick… Read more
the pet hair up by hand and force it into the the vacuum!). When I took it in for repairs I asked them to do something about the suction - apparently they did but it's still too low and they refuse to do anything about it, saying that it meets the specifications. So, the cons outweigh the pros, here they are..... the cord is really short so you'll need to keep plugging and unplugging it, it won't do under furniture because the head is too big to get under there, for the same reason you can't get into corners (and the hand attachment won't help you there because the suction is so poor), after a while of using it you realise that it's pretty heavy on your wrist (you're not just pushing around the hose and foot, you're pushing around the whole machine), you have to empty the canister after every room and clean (wash) the filter almost each time you vacuum the house. I'm thinking of cutting my losses and getting rid of it. It cost me NZ$400 and still has a year on its warranty but I can't be bothered with the stress, I want a machine that will make my life easier, not harder. So, if you're thinking of getting this model I would recommend investing your money in a more reliable alternative.
Cord too short, requires a lot of maintenance, poor suction on the hand attachment, heavy, too big to get under furniture and into corners, poor after sales service
I Totally agree with you Ziggy, I have the same unit and I find it useless a waste of money would… Read more (+5 replies)
