Brilliant! – Just bought one 2nd hand for $140. Love it! After reading the reviews before I picked it up. Glad I still decided to grab it. Im now looking out for another one. It's better than our Dimplex DC15. Just goes to show sometimes you just gotta go with ya gut feeling. Show details
Not that good – Had this a few years now, I don't really use it much as I find it to be very intrusive noise wise. It stopped heating about a year after purchase about 2010 but the cooling seems ok still. The instructions that came with it are abysmal and good luck working out the timer functions. I paid about $850.00 and having now experienced its performance I… Read more
would say it is not value for money. Purchased from the Good Guys SA who seemed keen to push this brand over the Delonghi's etc.
A major issue is that the water catchment does fill rapidly especially when it is humid even though it apparently reticulates the water over the condenser to help it cool better ? It has a function to advise you of this but emptying this is a chore as it is a small outlet at the base of the unit not far off the ground therefore to fully empty it you have to tilt the entire machine which is far from ideal as it is quite a heavy item. You also have to find somewhere to empty it because as mentioned before, it is set low on the machine so there is no room to place a bowl etc under it, I wheeled it outside and let the water out but this may prove unsuitable especially if your in an upstairs unit etc, a very poor design. A possible solution may be to find a suitable hose for permanent drainage but this will add to the set and pack up procedure.
The rear air outlet hose is reasonably long and it came with a telescopic attachment which allows you to mount it in a window or door opening of various sizes however this attachment is not as long as a sliding door is high so you will have a gap you need to fill to stop the bugs etc from getting in. The hose does also tend to split therefore after a while it will become shorter as you discard the damaged sections.
It will cool a decent sized room, I bought it for an 18sqm room with a poorly insulated cathedral ceiling and it did ok.
Overall it isn't a convenient A/C unit to use and I would really only recommend this to people who either rent or have no other choice, anyone else I would suggest just buy either a split system or basic window / wall mounted box type unit of which both will be much quieter, do a better job and be more convenient to use. Also anyone who has neighbours within earshot of this unit should give it a miss too. One thing it may be of use as is to cool an outdoor area to help keep it bearable ?
I expected better of this unit but overall it really does come down to what you need it for as for some it may be just what you require but for me it didn't make the grade. Looks ok Noisy, poor instructions, poor design (see review) no longer heats, heavy, expensive.
Hotpoint MAC 155 NEVER BUY AN HOTPOINT PRODUCT AGAIN – Pro's it takes up space in my small Flat and is and the top of the air con is useful for placing photos on: Cons: Noisy as hell The 1st unit failed to cool after 13 months with less than 50 hours use (Compessor Died) to Hotpoints Credit they replaced this unit 10/10 Hotpoint The replacement unit lasted 14 months with less that 30 hours use… Read more
this unit now hardly cools at all the heater is rubbish too I guess that the compressor has failed as well.
Due to the unit being out of warranty their is no chance of Hotpoint giving me a replacement.
My flat is 6m x 6m x 2.5m H the unit cooled it well when new but both unit died quickly this is the worst airconditioner I have ever had. Guess I will get a few dollars for it when I sell it for scrap as id never curse this unit on another living living thing. Good pot plant stand Both units failed in under 50 hours use and noisy as hell and high vibration levels
It is noisy but – Well it is a noisy machine thats for sure. This unit has many dislikable features but it does cool a 20 metre square room in our house. It might work better if the room wasnt exposed to the afternoon sun and had roof bat insulation installed. In winter the heater unit goes through a think about it phase before kicking in and after that… Read more
you have warm air flowing.
The controls are a mystery. The fan speed is questionable as the motor runs at one speed - flat out and noisy. The temperature display favours farenhiet and cant be locked to display celcius from what I can gather.
In summer the water capture tank needs emptying very regularly as in about once an hour. We solved this by mounting it on a safety step with a bucket under the drain plug. On a hot night there is about 2 thirds of a bucket in 8 hours plus what is in the tank. This may seem odd but if the tank is full the unit doesnt seem to cool as well.
Now for all this there is a redeemable feature - it keeps you warm and it reduces the stinking hot heat to bearable/ cool. Thinking of sleeping with it running then think lots of alcohol or ear muffs over ear plugs. If only you could put the unit in another room and run an exhaust from there into the room then you might get some quiet time. Set the TV at over 50. As a portable it looked to be the best of a bad lot performance wise. We couldnt put in a split system as it is not our house but if that was the choice then take the split unit anytime.

Unless you are chopper reid or in some way hearing impaired this unit will drive you mental – I realise these units are noisier than split systems or even window mounted air-cons but man..turned it on and ran for cover thinking that one of those de-commissioned satelites was re-entering the atmosphere and going to come through my roof....just bought it and now am racking my brain trying to think of some poor sucker to sell it to..at a discount of course.. it looks ok
how much for the noisy satelite ?
Excellent – it is the best 2 in 1 in one air con [ cooler and Heater ] on the matket with HEPA filter and with remote 2 in 1 ACC cool and heats Show 4 replies
