Never worked well – I bought this one as a high configuration model. Back in 2010 i7 processor, 8 GB ram was considered a very high confiq for a laptop. I was so excited and going to use this one photo and video editing. Unfortunately it was very slow, produced lot of heat and fan noise. As part of the warranty the fan was replaced but never improved the performance. I later moved to a apple product. Show details
Great laptop, powerful and has been very sturdy – This laptop was bought refurbished and has been an excellent 17inch laptop, HP makes really good quality products and has had coffee spilt on it mutliple times however still continuesly works. Would buy HP over most other brands just for the fact that I've had good life span out of every product I've used and tend to be very realisable without much bloat. Show details
I brought a hp pavilion laptop in April - – Not happy after 3-4 months have had a noisy fan - still under warranty - but guess what no service centre to get it fixed in Australia!!!!!!! They want me to send it O/S where I will loose everything - this is the 2nd computer in months - over bad quality products - this is not good enough and obviously a very common product for hp laptops - never again will I purchase this brand Show details

This is great! – This laptop is great! I was watching Avatar: Legend of Aang on the laptop and the HD display is good! Though the battery is short: (4 hours 25 minutes). It is still great! It comes with Beats Audio. The only problem was that after streaming movies and browsing, the fan was hot. and it was whirring.
Great Laptop – I purchased this laptop in June of 2012 and it's still running strong today. I've only had one problem with it (the fan got clogged with dust; which was my fault. I cleaned it out and it's been fine ever since) and the battery lasts me about 2 hours if not plugged into the power (which it usually is). The graphics are great and the sound is just… Read more
fine. Even though it can't run any big, high graphic games, it can still run smaller games with less graphics which is fine for me. Overall I've loved this laptop and I'll be sad when the time comes for me to replace it!
Good value workhorse – Bought this laptop about 2 years ago. It is equipped with a Core i7 Quad core 2.4Ghz processor 3630QM. 1TB HDD and 8GB Ram. I am quite happy with the laptop as it provides ample processing power. The laptop is used more like a desktop at home as it does weight a fair bit. I cant see myself using it on the run and I knew that before I… Read more
purchased. It provides ample processing power and runs really cool compared to what I had before.
QC in factory is not great as when I bought it, the back cover that is covering the HDD is not flat. I opened it up and found the CR battery cable pinched underneath. Problem fixed.
Also sometimes the HDD will vibrate and making this horrible sound. I thought the HDD was going to fail. But apparently it is how the HDD sitting in its mount. Noises fixed a couple of times when I re-seat the HDD.
With those 2 minor problems, 1 star deducted.

everything is perfect, except FAN! – I have a model: DV6--3111TX which i bought in 2011, it is good for entertainment, can running well on any normal games. However, the FAN!!! is really bad, after using around 6 months, it became noisy and hot,i have cleaned once. Last week I replaced the fan again, otherwise it is crazy hot. Show details
Awful, awful, awful – Stay away! Battery is flat in less than an hour (I already replaced it ones). Noisy, continuous message that fun is faulty. CMOS battery is hung on two wires and already came off! Please, do not buy HP. I trusted them a lot before. Now all their products are just a piece of junk.
Most terrible laptop I have ever had – I thought this could be good value one, but it turned out to be the disastrous laptop for me. Since I purchased it the fan runs angrily every time when I use it, even I only read PDF file and there is no other program running ,it is still the same.after 3 month the RAM was burnt, I had enough,so I complained to HP customer service, they suggested… Read more
that I should pay more for better choice, I said, you missed the point that this one should at least be functional ,which is the basic requirement for any product.then they said sorry for the trouble.
For anyone who have thought to buy this one, please stay away from this laptop. and HP will lose the reputation from this laptop. I will never buy anything with 'HP' in my life.

crap – virtually unuseable from day one - slow - keystrokes can take three or four seconds to register. hard to say whether it's Microsoft 8 version whatever that's stuffed this computer or its just rubbish from the start. don't buy it. Worst laptops EVER – On the recommendation of a dealer, I bought an HP laptop to replace my aged Toshiba in December 2014 - worst decision I ever made. The 'original' laptop started having problems with the cooling fan - I kept getting messages warning me that if I continued to use it could fail and I could lose data or something - so I took it back to the… Read more
dealer. He took several days to check it out and told me that I had not put the battery back in properly - that was ridiculous as I'd never taken the battery out. Got it home and a day or so later same problem. I went back and I told them that I wanted the fan replaced. He told me that before they could do that HP would have to look at it. Amazing, a day later they told me that they would replace the fan BUT there weren't any in Australia - it would be a good week before the part would arrive. I ended up ringing HP and they told me the same thing - I then told HP that Fair Trading had told me that they should have parts available in Australia for 4 years when they sell a laptop. After a couple of calls he then asked me what I wanted - I told him a new laptop. He said OK.
I got the 'new' laptop and after a couple of months found that the inbuilt camera didn't work. As I didn't want to go back to the dealer as he hadn't been very supportive, I got someone else to look at it. Well, the solder that holds the camera in place had broken! Now I'm thinking, did they agree to give me a new camera and end up giving me one that had already been used and had this problem. It's going to cost me between $150-$220 to replace the camera. I asked the repairman if I should contact HP and he told me that I could try but warned me that they would probably blame me or him for breaking the solder. So, I agreed to go ahead with the repair.
Well, guess what? I have to wait 10 days because HP DON'T HAVE THE PART IN AUSTRALIA!!!!
So, BEWARE of HP products. I would never, ever, ever, ever buy anything from HP again. If you value your money and time you have, take my advice and don't touch a HP product!!
Don't buy HP laplop – It is terrible laptop, I bought it as price 40% off, and three years warranty. from day one, the Laptop is very noise, overheat and suddenly shut down because it is over hot. and can't start laptop, it reports it can not find harddisk. Today I am very angry and open it. I never buy any HP product any more.
Never been happy with this – The main problems with this HP dv6 is it overheats frequently and the fans are noisy. It doesn't seem to be compatible with Windows 8 either. Overall, I've never been all that happy with this laptop as the internet always drops out.

Worst laptop I've ever used – Had 2 hard drives failed (1st one only lasted for a month, was replaced under warranty, the 2nd one failed a year later). Got an aftermarket seagate 750gb HDD, had no problems for 3 years. Has a common problem of overheating very easily(even when I'm playing DVD's and HD media) sort of preventing me from using programs such as photoshop on the… Read more
computer (defeats the purpose of having an entertainment laptop). This also makes the laptop very noisy. Another common problem is the battery, where it only lasts upto an hour when web browsing. Few other issues that I've experienced is an occasional scratching noise coming out of the optical drive which is worrying as a disc inside maybe being damaged even when the laptop is on a flat surface, touchpad is dodgy, the fingerprint reader is flimsy, bluetooth doesn't work and the DVD software included with the laptop(the only legal method of playing blu-ray movies) is buggy.
HP Pavilion dv6 3042 TX Entertainment notebook – I have battled on with my notebook for years. Over heating is the norm and although the notebook has an i7 processor this never did much for the performance of the machine. In the end the machine dies and over heating was probably the cause. When it was opened up the internal vents were all but closed up and this is clearly a design fault of… Read more
the machine. Add to that a crummy battery which is flat after 1 hour and you get the message. And if the above is not enough to put you off any HP products consider that HP Support was all but missing and after the warranty was out support did not want to know customers who had bought these lemons.
Perhaps I should be happy that my machine has been put out of its misery. And perhaps HP has lost a whole generation of business due to its avoidance to servicing its own badly designed product. Even HP employees posted blogs criticising their company for not fixing things like the fingerprint readers which needed software updates.............oh yes, software updates???? Be happy with the original drivers of 2009 and 2010 because that is all you get from the HP website from what I could see.
Bad product. Avoid.

Disappointment and waste of money – I purchased this laptop 3 years ago and have been dealing with it ever since, at least till I can afford my new gaming laptop. not work very well with some games and does not allow recording of some games. The WiFi on this Notebook is terrible and I'm only getting 2 bars of internet 15 meters from my router and no its not the routers fault. Overall I would not recommend this product even though I picked it up cheap, you pay for what you get. What fooled me into buying it was the core i7 processor and fingerprint scanner.
Not so good – Bought this laptop thinking I am buying from a reputable company but unfortunately was not the case. Appalling design, parts and customer service. DO NOT BUY HP FULL STOP! – Known issues with the HP Pavillion Dv6 are endless. Almost all of them I have experienced on my 2011 dv6. Overheating (relentless and unstoppable), causing sudden fan failure is one of the most complained about issues with this series. My computer never once was cool, but for the first 6 months of buying it didn't overheat, unlike now where… Read more
parts regularly reach 80+ degrees even with a cooling pad. I have experienced both overheating and fan failure, costing more and more just to keep it going.
Besides this, I have also had issues with the screen hinge braking easily (luckily under the stupid 2 year warranty, everything else failing after it ended). Now, in 2013-14 it is soon to be completely dead and inoperable. My motherboard now has major issues, costing up to $335 to fix/replace. This is caused by the overheating that is endemic with this stupid design of laptop. The overheating is also in effect 'frying' other parts of the computer.
Put simply, this is a lemon. Constant attempts to get support from HP failed. The customer service is appalling, with no NECESSARY driver updates on various things, with the last update on the graphics ranging back to 2009/10. Ridiculous. HP do not care about their customers whatsoever. If you want to see more stories similar to mine just do a search on google. You are bound to find many shocking tales indeed. -Run OK, but still hot for the first six months. -OK design i guess 99% of everything. Overheating causing multiple parts failure including fan and motherboard costing ridiculous sums of money to keep going. -Horrible customer service -No driver updates -Useless HP bloatware -Systemic Design Issues.
dv6-1143tx – Buying computers nowadays is very hit & miss. Even models in the same “series” are completely different, come from different factories in China, and each model has its specific quirks. particular model has faults, their attitude is to ignore it, discontinue production, and move on. They will happily refund your money, but it can be very frustrating when you think you have bought a bargain, only to find out it is a dud.
They are extremely reluctant to cover screen damage. I can understand their point that the majority of screen breakages are caused by impact, but I sometimes wonder if their lids couldn’t be a bit more solid.
This problem is hardly unique to HP, but everyone I have had has run way too HOT, to the point of actually causing damage. My current DV6-1143TX literally bakes the batteries, such that I have given up replacing them. Even with an external cooler, it gets so hot you can’t touch it. Good features, Excellent Customer Service from HP Runs WAY too hot
HP Customer Service was fantastic – I had problems with my laptop when I brought it home. It kept flicking in and out of Airplane Mode. I rang up HP support. There was no wait time. A couple of different things were tried but none solved the problem. This happened over a couple of days. HP rang to check if the laptop was fixed. Not very impressed at all !!! – From day one, on my very first use, I had problems : i took it from the box, put the battery in, plugged it, turn in on and did the windows set-up process. Then it automatically restarted (as it should), and then as I clicked on the "control panel" button it suddenly froze, then there was a bluescreen and it went off !!!!!!!. !!! Anyways, after a year of use, so many problems with it and HP's customer service (they actually never help at all, nor they called back like they were supposed to either...) and many hours googling its problems, I finally worked out, on my own, that it's because it over-heats.
And yeah, I always thought that it felt a tad too hot, but the fan seemed to be running fine. Then I remembered that very first day I used: it was a hot day... so there we go, it explained why it never liked those usb modems since they use a lot of energy out of the computer they made it go hot (sometimes a had 3 bluescreens a day!), explained why it never liked any external drives at all, and why it suddenly froze even when nothing was running...
So add to that HP's terrible customer service (the free one that comes with warraty), all the bloat-useless softwares that it comes with but don't work anyway, and the useless battery: 1 hour wireless on, 1.30h just using word or playing cards, I was quite disappointed, really.
On the upside, that's why I actually gave 2 stars : I found it very child proof... I have a nearly 3 years old that literally pounds on the keypad, especially when he sees me coming he goes even harder, and it still works fine !!! 2 weeks ago I found him standing on the keypad and bouncing on it (he is 18kg) , and not a problem, the computer is fine Only one good thing very resistant to children bouncing on it and pounding on the keypad Over-heats constantly so it freezes, and doesn't handle external drives. Way too much bloatware, useless battery, very bad customer service
Do not buy this one – I had HP pavilions before two computers and one laptop. I would rate HP very high. But this model is a bed news written all over it. First motherboard was replaced under warranty, than video and than hard drive... When is it gona stop?! I am out of warranty now and hard drive costed me $150.00 from UK eBAY. I really hope, that I will not have any more problems. Looks OK Hot, noisy, braking down
Great All-Rounder – I purchased this notebook in December 2012 and I still love it. It's very fast and reliable, especially for the price. Reliable, Fast, Handles everything I have thrown at it, Decent Battery Life The only problem I have had with this notebook so far is the heat it produces when Gaming. Very Poor Computers – I bought a Hewlett Packard laptop computer (Pavilion dv6) and, unfortunately, a number of months later bought another HP for my daughter. later with the problems. Their tech support was in India. I wasted so much time on the phone with them and it didn't fix the problem. It was suggested after these numerous attempts to remotely fix the problem, that they, HP, needed to inspect it. They told me that I need to back-up every thing up as it was likely that the drive may have to be reformatted (everything deleted). I was furious as it takes a huge amount of time to reload all the software that was on the machine (it certainly did have a lot of software on it). I was reluctant but agreed. They pickup the computer and dropped it off after inspection. They fixed the popping drive but not the finger print. Then the speakers started to play up. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. Also the mouse pad started to play up. Scrolling up and down sometimes would not work. I emailed HP and I demanded a replacement as the computer I had was a lemon. They didn't respond. I will be taking this to Consumer Protection. The other HP computer that I bought for my daughter started to play up as well, the sound (through the speakers and headphones) was faulting. I would not recommend a HP laptop to any one. Try a brand with an Australia Service Centre.
Never buy an HP – This is my 3rd HP. I got my HP Pavilion dv6-6c04AX in August 2012. It's now February 2013 and it's broken. Like all of them, it ran excellently for the few months... crazy - then it's start running ridiculously slowly. Last night I put a stopwatch on and it took 14 minutes and 36 seconds to load one website on Google Chrome, with nothing else open - and no, it's not google chrome stuffing up, firefox had the exact same problem, and chrome had been working perfectly fine on my brother's, mum's and dad's compute and at the library. And this is AFTER my dad (computer geek) spent about 6 hours trying to fix it (updating, reinstalling, etc).
Sunday, it crashed. Monday, it crashed. Tuesday, it crashed.
Oh and then took 12 minutes to start up again.
My previous two HP pavilions, both within 6-9 months had the hard disk completely die. Dead. Wouldn't even turn on.
Luckily I was able to get the hard drive out and save all of my documents.
As an animal/veterinary bioscience student, I do not have time for this..

reliable. I've had some problems with mine overheating, and this is a common problem with HP laptops, but simple solutions such as ensuring use on a flat surface and updating drivers and BIOS remedy this situation. Technically advanced, but difficult to use! – The product has high end specifications - i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, Bluray player etc, which HP offered at a compelling price point. The track pad is difficult to use (which you can overcome by using an external mouse). High end specs - i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, Bluray player. Great price 1) Gets too heated too quickly - heat dissipation is not designed for such a powerful processor (2) Poor design of the track pad - have had to use an external mouse for the first time, in my 15 years of using track pads!
