Cutter deck belt replacement – Looking to figure out what size deck my CTH 2138r ride on is. I broke the deck belt for the cutter blades. Anyone know is this model is 38inch or 42inch? Or what part number is for a new belt thanks

Biggest Heap of C#$p ever produced – My previous Husqvarna did 12 years of hard work on our 8-acre property, from towing a sheet of reo around smashing horse and cow poo as well as cutting the grass to perfection, it used 3 belts in 12 years. This piece of C#$p broke a belt the second time I used it!!!! Seriously it blocks the chute all the time then jams the blades and bang another… Read more

belt gone. If the grass is longer than 6 inches long you have to cut it on high then low, to use the catcher you have to cut on high leave it a couple of hours in the sun then run over it again. I cant let my wife or kids cut the grass or bang the belt is gone in 5 minutes and the price of a belt is $135!!! One positive is the motor is strong so looking for an older Husky with a blown motor and transfer the motor across and it might be ok.

Don't buy Husqvarna – Had our Husqvarna for 7 years and it has been serviced and cared for well. During that time we have had to replace different belts on it. Different parts around start-up have also gone in it. Bearings in the engine on the way out, now. Sounds awful when starting up. Not the easiest to turn and it's only really happy when it's on level ground - we aren't on anything steep but definitely not level. Show details

Total rubbish engineering – This is one of the poorest engineered bits of engineering I've ever purchased. It's total rubbish! I thought I was buying a quality piece of Swedish engineering, but it turns out it is crap USA-made rubbish. What a con job. Constant problems with bits breaking and falling off. Everything about it seems to be done on the cheap. I've even had to… Read more

resort to putting cable ties on the R-clips that hold the deck in place as they keep falling off! DON'T BUY HUSQVANA.

Husqvarna is a great brand of mower now considering buying my third new ride on – I have had acreage land now for 24 years my first brand new Husqvarna ride on was a side discharge always worked very well but wanted something to pick up all the leaves and not just throw around all over the place went to my local Husqvarna dealer and saw the rear catcher model fell in love straight away best thing I've ever bought. My current… Read more

ride-on cth151xp I've had for about 18 years has the 15 horsepower v twin Kawasaki and never had a single issue with the motor I've had to replace usual belts and pulleys that you need to do on any brand of ride-on when parts wear out. I seen a lot of negative comments about the rear catching mowers clogging up you simply just do not catch grass when it's wet or super thick. I regularly mow my grass so I never have a problem with clogging catcher.only other problem I've ever had was it was losing drive in a hydrostatic transmission talk to my local dealer about this he suggested taking out the rear diff/transmission flushing the old oil out and replacing it with new oil also replaced the drive belt and was like a new mower again. I don't think there's such a thing as a perfect brand of ride on mower when you have something that works so hard all the time and so many moving parts the eventually going to have parts that fail that need replacing. after 18 years of service I'm now looking at purchasing my third brand new Husqvarna ride On with rear catcher would recommend to acreage onwers especially with a lot of gum trees and a lot of leaves on the ground all the time perfect mower for the job

Husqvarna 2642, very poor machine, great disappointment. Issues below – I bought my brand new Husqvarna 2642 in 2012 thinking it was the best mower on the market, issues I have is two failed catcher actuators, dealer changed to manual lift.Drive belt wears in to rear catcher . Rear catcher blows grass over operator. Battery goes flat over night. Mower blocks all the time. I would recommend not to purchase, these… Read more

faults listed are certainly not all faults, I have found the dealers to not care and fob off obvious issues

An excellent mower for years – We've had our mower four years with never any problems. It runs great, cuts great, collects the clippings with no problems. This mower has a wonderfully tight turning radius and lets us cut close to the lawn sidings and around trees. It is comfortable for the full hour it takes to mow our extensive lawns, and it goes up and down hills easily. It was easy to learn to drive it. Show details

Problems problems problems – This mower is about 3 yrs old and is not used very often, yet has gone through many belts and other problems, at the moment i cannot get the mower to keep going unless I have my foot on the brake but the brake switch is ok, the seat switch is ok and after checking all wiring I cannot find problem so off to the service department yet again. Paid alot for mower yet received a poorly made machine.  Show details

Catcher problems. Hydostatic axle failure. Many cutting belts – This mower works well on my flat lawn if mowed very regularly in dry weather. Not much good on slopes. Long grass struggles. Clogs the catcher exhaust tube. Wet grass... forget about it. Belt burn out common. Hydrostatic drive just failed. Can't drag itself up a moderate slope. To be fair it has been about 8 years before the failure. Engine hour meter has never worked.  Show details

Agree with almost all points in previous reviews – Had this mower since new, 3 years, and all the above points are true. Had husky mowers before so decided to update. What a croc. Before first service oil leak dripping onto drive belt caused slipping and mower would not go forward. 4 belts replaces on cutters whereas only replace 2 in 10 years on previous model. Spindle bearings replaced twice and… Read more

indicator for catcher full stopped working after 1 year. Also chute to catcher clogs repeatedly with damp grass even though the grass is only 4 or 5 cm long. All this for only $5000. What a poor deal. Stay away from this machine. I'm stuck with this one for now. Husqvarna should replace these free of charge. Wish me luck!

Every time I use something goes wrong – Bought it 2 years ago, first thing to go wrong was hour meter which went from 5 hours to 56 in one move now showing 460 hours which is impossible. Lights stopped working almost straight away, blocks far to readily with moderate grass or leaves, has had all idler pulleys replaced twice, drive belt slipping, was replaced and fixed 10 hours ago. Same… Read more

problem already, can hardly pull itself along, belt drive clutch replaced and the list goes on. Sick of taking it back to dealer for repairs. Only positive is the 26hp B&S motor, very reliable.

Very Disappointing - Poor Quality Engineering – In 2 years with only average use. Have gone through 2 sets of bearings on the mower deck (thought bearings are supposed to be sealed against dust and grit) catcher warning buzzer has never worked despite being replaced under warranty. Replaced switch on dump twice. If not used for a couple of weeks can be very difficult to start. Overall a very… Read more

disappointing machine and would not consider Husqvarna equipment in the future for maintenance works based on the performance of this machine. Was recommended by dealer to put a manually operated catcher dump on at a cost of $420 plus installation!

Looks great but cheaply built, but cost $5000+ – Bought new 2012 and still looks as new and well out of warranty. Only used on flat house lawn, only ever water washed twice as air blowing kept the mower spotless. It was always shedded when not in use.Catcher shute hates damp grass.Gear shift gate is hard to use and with engine running the whole mower shakes. My main grievance is the failure of the… Read more

belt drive wheels (7 of ). At 60 hours the 1st bearing failed and at 90 hours all 7 needed replacing including the transmission drive belt.Mower still has original blades and blade belt. Husqvarna has refused to accept any liability stating all the bearings are consumables as dust and water effect these bearings. It is a LAWN MOWER subjected to dust and water and obviously the bearings dont meet the demands of their purpose. No wonder this model is discontinued

Sorry Husqvarna I will not buy or recommend your products

Not worth the money – I bought this machine some years ago and am very disappointed. If Husky wanted to keep clients it should offer a replacement machine as they are simply a failure. even when dry and electric lifter ( to empty grass) simply doesn't work as it come out its hook assembly constantly, and as you have to remove grass box regularly to unjamb, it is a mission to get this lifter arm placed back correctly. Just over 100 hours and I am in the process of ordering my 3rd deck belt and don't cut long grass. I am waiting for Husqvarna to come to the party and try redeem themselves by offering me a BETTER replacement, or just one that works.

Sent it back as soon as it was delivered – Looking forward to this mower arriving however upon delivery it was noisy sounding like it had no exhaust and vibrated excessively, the agent said it was normal for this machine, shame we weren't told this before, returned and paid difference for YTH2246TDR, see what that is like tomorrow. Agent was helpful.

Wouldnt buy one with a catcher ever ever again – wanted a mower with a catcher, paid $5750 in 2011 for this one. if the grass is wet or too long it clogs up and doesn't even get to the catcher, so you then have to switch machine off and unclog. we have also gone through four belts - just blew latest one just last weekend, when tried to go through grass that was a tad high and going up hill. has… Read more

Shake rattle and fall to pieces – Had this ride on for 18 months, 91 hrs use. So far had two cutter belts snap, one drive belt wear out, battery does not hold charge, bearings collapsed on cutter drive, rear catcher failed, constantly blocks all the time, previously had a John Deere for 7 years with only belt replacement and servicing. wouldn't have another Husquvarna given, total waste of money and time!!

Dont Buy this brand – I bought this model 2 years ago on the recommendation of the shop owner. In the last 12 months I have gone through at least 10 deck belts. It has had several bearings replaced on the pulleys and looked at twice by the shop and still not improved. In fact they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it...another $350:00 . Substandard drive syatem – I bought this model for the catcher system which is just adequate as it is easily blocked. In heavy grass the mulching option is prone to jam the blades causing the belts to burn and require replacing at extremely high prices. My biggest problem has been the Briggs and Stratton hydraulic axel. After 240 hours it completely failed to drive and… Read more

required rebuilding. Now after a further 120 hours it is failing again. Husqvarna will accept no responsibility for the unit referring me to Briggs and Stratton, who are not interested. The primary responsibility rests with Husqvarna as it is they who specified and assembled the drive unit into their product.

For a $6000 mower this is totally unacceptable. It is quite clear that the drive unit is under engineered and is not up to the job and therefore is not fit for purpose. Kholer engine very good ( a bit noisey) Lack of factory backup

A waste of money if you're looking for a catcher ride-ion mower – I have a 48inch, side discharge Jonsered which has been running perfectly for years but I needed a mower with a catcher for the large main lawn. I bought a 42inch Husqvarna for $5400 solely to catch the grass clippings. The catcher is woeful!! it comes unclipped at the slightest bump resulting in clippings being dumped in little heaps all over the… Read more

place. There is no adjustment on the holding clips and they have a very weak grip. There is also a cut-out switch that shuts down the engine if the catcher is not very closely attached so the mower stopped after every bump until I disengaged the stupid switch. The engineers who designed this should have tested it on a normal lawn and not a billiard table. Also, the body frame is quite light and I can feel it twisting on uneven surfaces when one wheel is higher or lower than the others. I won't buy another and would vehemently not recommend it to anyone looking for a catcher ride-on. Nice colour Not well designed or engineered - not fir for purpose.

Not at all impressed! – Having had a Countax mower for 6 years, I decided to change to the Husqvarna CTH2642 as it mulched, caught and had cruise control. I have had it for a year, during which time it constantly blocks, which is so frustrating, having to stop and clear it 3 or 4 times during an hours mowing, evenwhen the grass is perfectly dry and short! Also, the… Read more

battery had to be changed after 4 months, the alternator needed replacing, the cruise control was temperamental. I am therefore going to cut my losses, sell it and go back to the amazingly reliable Countax!! It is also quite noisy when operating.

The best looking rubbish on the market – I had a 30" single blade Mowtown ride-on mower for 18 years and stupidly sold it for $1,200 to buy a collecting Husqvarna CTH 2542, 42" ride-on mower for $6,500, because it looked great and full of promise. How wrong I have been. Had this Husqvarna for 3 years now and spent over $2,050 on keeping it going. Had to replace the cutting deck belts 5… Read more

times @ $120 each. The belts are non-reinforced rubber and just keep on breaking even when there is little load. The blade tips are higher up in the cutting deck than the hub holding the blades, i.e. the main body of the blades 'ride' on the grass, The cutting tips of the blade should be the lowest part of the blade not the other way round. The cutting deck vents block with grass clippings after 5 min cutting reducing collection of clippings. The mower does not collect dry leaves, just blows them away from the cutting deck. The bearings of two drive belt pullies disintigrated and had to be replaced costing $220. The started motor disintigrated recently and was replaced costing $690 and now the hydraulic gearbox is slipping requiring attention costing about $340. The 'catcher full' switch is broken, the drive lights have not been working for 2 years and it needed a new battery after just 2 years. There is no battery cover allowing wet grass to shorten out the battery. Apart from that, the wheels slip on the slightest hill and the finish cut of the lawn is appalling.

January 30th, I agree with all the other contributors below. I have used ride-on mowers for 29 years and only sold my trusted MTD after 21 years to buy the Husqvarna, because we had a larger lawn to mow.

After 4 drive belt breakages in 1 year, I discovered that the $100 double-V belts were 'deliberately' manufactured to fail. They have a ridge along one edge which wears through very quickly shredding the fabric reinforcing (the only part which holds the belt together). Husqvarna mechanic said "they are all like that"- "what is your problem? and "we haven't had any complaints from our customers" and proceeded to tell me how to use a ride on mower.

I am sure their customers didn't know about that deliberately built-in defect.

I have since imported the belts from a US supplier at less than 1/2 the price (even when shipping is included) and the first US belt lasted over three years and failed only because I hit something which jammed the blade which in turn caused the belt to burn.

All the other reported faults happened on my machine also. Headlight lamps- 'catcher full' switch- run timer- vee pulleys on drive belt- drive belt- catcher lock spring- tension pulley on mowing deck- free wheel lever- catcher seal all failed within the first year. The battery compartment is exposed to wet grass clippings and dirt which pile up on the battery terminals causing the battery to discharge regularly unless protected. Furthermore, the two rear tires kept on deflating until tire tubes were fitted.

Yesterday, Jan 27/1/17 the mower won't drive up small inclines because the transaxle is already worn out and needs to be replaced at a quoted cost of $2,400.

The only very good unit is the 'Kohler Courage 25 TWIN' motor, which has not once failed to start, summer or winter, in 6 years and is still running like new. And the other thing still like new is the Husqvarna LOGO! Hmmm?

There are only 2 shockingly bad ride-on mowers on the market and the Husqvarna CTH2542 is both of them.2017 Update: The nicest looking piece of junk on the market The only good thing about this mower are its looks. it's designed to fail in all mechanical aspects. Spare parts, which are required constantly, cost astronomical amounts.
