UPDATE: 18th MAY 2025. Made the Call to spend $200 More on OEM Crankshaft and Some Gaskets. IT LIVES !!! Really Easy Job in the End and she is back purring like a ...well, Mower. Briggsy Motor was a dream to work on and we hope this will now see her past 1000 Hours. Unbelievable little Workhorse :) UPDATE: 6 MAY 2025.......Spoke too soon.… Read more ·  5

LOL. Mower has officially become unviable @ 891 Hours on the Clock. Compression Bypass Lobe on the Camshaft,in the Motor has crapped out. Dang. Ah well, The Ol' Girl just had enough. That being said, She gave us awesome Service in her time. Still got nothing but good things to say for the Rig. Sad to see her go though. She will be missed. :( RIP Ol'girl. Just Passed 884 Hours with this Mower. Inherited it with the Property we bought. Was in Rough Condition when we got it. Spent a bit on Minor Parts and Ran for Eight Years ( so far ). Replaced the Deck, Numerous Spindles and Yep it does go thru a Deck Belt every Season. This little 38" gets asked to do mighty things and does them with Gusto. Briggs and Stratton Motor is a Champ. We are on rough Acreage and this Old Girl should NOT be doing half the Stuff we ask it to do. Better for Back-Yarders but when asked to do impossible things...It Does. Even took it to the Paddock next to us where Light Commercials would struggle and while it struggled with the long wet grass, so would most. A few Weaknesses that require seasonal spending, BUT...Would I buy another? Yep. But only if it was for it's intended use. Life on a Farm has not been kind to the 38" . But...Every Season she gets going and back in to the Fray.

Good at first but expensive to maintain and now junked – I purchased this mower about 6 years ago and it was great in its early low hours of running, then the problems started. :( Nothing covered under the all but useless Husqvarna 5 year warranty. Eats cutter deck belts like they are going out of style. Has had two mandrel replacements not covered apparently under the warranty. The cheap and nasty… Read more

muntz metal wash attachments easily snap off. It's now sitting in the shed awaiting a spindle pulley which once again are apparently unavailable as spare part (OEM or clone) for this model. So effectively it's become expensive non functional junk. 100 hours on the clock so due for a service but no Husqvarna dealer will touch it because they can't get a simple spindle pulley that needs replacing.

I will never buy another Husqvarna product again. The manufacturer clearly doesn't provide any after-sales support, spare parts or honour the warranty and it's now obvious why this model has been discontinued.

Should have read the reviews 1st – Just over 2 years old and yes one of the the lift brackets came away, upon inspection the other one was probably one more mow away before that to broke away as well, the muffler tank is also cracked, the tubeless front tyres constantly going flat, good for people who want to lose wait when the belt is engaged shakes the ....... out of you, very disappointing.  Show details

Cheap HEAP – Not real comfortable right from the start after a few lawn mows it got worse with wheel alignment, deck majorly damaged and chassis connecting brace snapped would never buy again and would not recommend to anyone in the market for a mower. Cheap plastic components. Currently upto 3 decks in 4 years.  Show details

What a great mower! – I've owned the LTH2038 from new, over 2 years, has around 75 hours on the clock. Serviced by me every spring, oil & filters as supplied by Husqvarna. An easy machine to work on for anyone with a bit of knowledge. No major probs, one flat tyre, a wheel alignment and a cracked plastic exit chute, all after I hit obstacles. My block, around an acre,… Read more

was rough grass, bumpy and slightly inclined, the Husky has done a great job of helping turn it into a good, level lawn. It evened out the high spots........ not like a D9 dozer but a bit like a D4 ;-) so now it needs some new blades but is still on the original belt. What a great, reliable lawnmower. Starts every time, first time. I'd recommend one to anybody, provided they use it as a lawnmower, not as a slasher for clearing bush blocks.

easy to use – purchased new in 2011. comfortable and easy start and operate. allows mowing forward and reverse via single foot control pedal. maintenance can be done at home with occasional visit to dealer for full services. use on rough ground (we live on a farm) caused deck support bracket to fail but we re-welded it. tyres are made for lawn but not so… Read more

good for wet sloping ground. head gasket blew, with cost of $300 to repair including full service.

No wonder it's disconitnued – This mower was bought as a birthday present because my mother was told it is a quality mower. It isn't.The TV ad's said it was built to "tame the wild". My garden was wild, I hit a small branch submerged in the garden and the mower deck was ripped to shreds. Cost of replacement over $400 (doing the repair myself). Shortly after the machine… Read more

stopped. The repair man new what the problem would be immediately.....not a good sign. Since then nothing but trouble.. Husqvarna weren't interested in my complaint. Locally the technicla mangaer grudgingly agreed that the adverts only applied to the most expensive mowers. Huqvarna didn't even reply to me so you're on your own if you have a problem with a Huqvarna. The current ad says "ready when you are" this is rarely true of the mower I have and I doubt it's replacement would be any better.. I wouldn't buy a Husqvarna ever again. This is a late review because I have only just found this site

87hrs still like new – Can't find a fault yet unless it is very hilly country the right rear tyre will spin but that's not a design fault it's just too much of a angle! Turns on a dime and won't rip up the lawn when turning that sharp either, plenty of power and p,entertainment of speed .

Piece of crap – As previous post mine has 100 hours. Nothing but trouble. Motor is fine but probably cos it's made by briggs and Stratton not Husqvarna. Rebuilt cutting deck 3 times. Good engine (until the head gasket blew) terrible mower deck – I have nearly 100 hours on my mower. As others have reported the mounts for the mowing deck are very flimsy. Both major mounting points have broken, plus a pulley mount. They are just lightly welded on. Should have listened to the dealer who said to spend the extra thousand or so for the heavier deck - but money was tight. Fortunately I can weld… Read more

so fixed myself.

My original review spoke about the engine being fine. But - just blew the head gasket! When I started researching it turns out this is a common problem and they usually blow right where mine did. Only $25 or so for the head gasket but still took a few hours to do it myself.

Other real issue is the steering. No adjustment for toe in. So catch a fence post or similar and the axle stub just bends out. $25 in the US and about $90 in Aust. Guess what family bring me back on their overseas trips instead of a bottle of scotch! Very poor design.

Other than that, just usual belts, cable to engage mower blades broke after a few hours, blades, mounting spot on seat broke, discharge shute broke at mounting point, etc. etc.

Still going but doubt I'd buy another one.

Fantastic powerful rideon mower – This is my first own ride-on mower after years of struggling to mow a large hilly yard, I decided to buy this and have been very pleased with it everytime. Poor Product – Our Husqvarna LTH2038 is just over 2 years old and out of warranty when in the motor ceased and the electric starter was unable to turn motor . mower still looks new and has only ever done light work on established lawns....It is more of a TOY than a reliable hard working machine most purchasers expect......I have owned numerous ride on's in the past and they were far superior to the LTH2038.....Finally if you expect to get a reasonable trade in on your next purchase Husqvarna's are next to worthless even if they fully operational and appear immaculate, as ours was...

Advice all intending purchasers to avoid the cheap end of the market and buy quality.....

Not bad at all – Coming from an old greenfield, my new LTH2038 was like a luxury limo. I bought the Husqvana because it had brakes, and the greenfield didn't, and when I found myself going at great speed backwards down a steet hill with no control, I knew it was time to do something to help not shorten my life. It was delivered in a badly assembled state but the… Read more

dealer was easy to get along with and quickly fixed it.

It is light in construction, but if you want a bulldozer buy a Caterpillar D9.

I have had it now for four years, and its time to replace the battery, but so far I have only replaced the decals that got wiped out going under trees, and the drive belt, and the tubes that take up the grass to the catcher, and this week the cable that engages the blades has broken. I am not rough on it but not terribly gentle either. Slightly tougher construction would be good, but I havent serviced it at all ( not even an oil change ) and it is still good. Reversing into a tree wasnt too good for the grass catcher, and catching the side of the grass catcher on the fence wasnt smart, but overall I would buy another one happily. My Briggs and Stratten has been great.

Disaster even in Warranty/and out of warranty – Initially on delivery, foot brake did not work-----missing split pin. I replaced. At 70 hours oil pouring out from engine. Dealer replaced head gasket and said… Read more

a few of these engines, Briggs and Stratton, had been supplied with loose head bolts on engine. Dealer fixed as a warranty even though the 2years had expired. On return and within 5 minutes of using, the left front tyre swelled up like a tennis ball, and eventually exploded. Whilst it was swelling up, I made a measurement of the pressure in the tyres-----they read Front 29 PSI , rear 23 PSI. I had never checked these from new. Then I read the Tyre operating Maximums and the warnings of over pressure on the tyres and in the manual and realised that I had been operating with over pressured tyres. There is a warning in the manual, re assembly that the tyres are shipped overinflated and should be reduced. The warning on the tyres is more explicit. I believe that they had been always high !!!!!! hence the possible problem. Tyre useless needs replacement!!!! Dealer has been good, product a disaster

Substandard design – I have a 2010 model LTH2038 that I constantly have to refit the deck belt as it won't cut through lawn on the 1.5 setting without the V belt coming off. Already replaced 2 belts. Lth2038 – This was the first mower I had ever bought. I thought husqvarna had a good name and was happy, 2.5 years ago, to pay >$3k for it. I recently bought a '99 model ford festiva and it has been cheaper and way more reliable than my more expensive lawn mower lemon. Wish the festiva would mow my lawns! Over 2.5 years I have had the following issues: deck… Read more

belt constantly snapping, the most recent belt only lasted 3 hrs of mowing before snapping. It is in the service centre and after 100 hours the LHS deck lift support has broken away from the deck at a weld joint? Just before winter 2012, my mower engine stopped - yep, as mentioned by another reviewer the bolts inside the Briggs and Stratton engine had vibrated loose.

God knows what other damage has happened. A few belt guides have snapped off on the deck which I have had to replace, and the spring that interfaces between the deck pulley and the cable to the deck engaged lever has clean snapped. This seems to indicate a misalignment with the deck from manufacture, but nobody has been able to pinpoint the issue. I will be approaching fair trading about this lawnmower very soon as I am at the end of my tether with this expensive piece of lemon machinery.

Every time I mow the lawn, something else fails and I can't mow my lawn for 4-5 weeks in summer until it is fixed. Very unhappy, would never recommend a husqvarna to anyone. Nothing - it is always breaking down. Even husqvarna service centre tells me that they cannot help and to contact the husqvarna repair centre I hate to guess what will be next, from numerous deck belts and guides snapping, deck lift support broken away from deck, bolts inside engine vibrated loose, deck engaged spring snapped (high-tensile steel, go figure)

LTH2038. good machine – I have purchased this machine a few weeks ago now second hand. I had bought this unit for my wife to mow the lawn when i am away at work (don't need anyone trying to cut my grass when i am away) I wanted something easy to use hop on and away you go. It dose a good job nice clean cut. thought i would need a catcher or a mulch kit for it but i would… Read more

not even bother it dose that good a job. i also run a hobby lawn mowing business. i have used it to mow a few rather large town block's around town. its been a great machine so far and i have no doubt it always will be.

i have had a read of some of the other reviews in this section about this unit as a mechanic whom maintains equipment for a living and has done for 15 years now. some of the things i had read i fined annoying. typical of someone of no mechanical understanding and or knowledge. e.g. the tyre went flat. are you blind and can you not read the owners operation and maintenance hand book. you should alway perform a pre start inspection. a tyre is not a fault of a piece of equipment it is a serviceable item

and the other silly sausage complaining about the tensioner bearings again serviceable item. bearings and tyres and belts and battery can fail at any time no matter what brand of equipment or brand of parts.

this unit is a very user friendly machine. the operation and maintenance hand book explanations are clear and straight forward. there are stickers under the hood for quick reference p/t no's for service item's eg oil filter, oil grade, belt, bearings, etc.

plenty of horse power to go around. starts first hit of the key every time. smooth quiet operation.

bonnet easy to remove for servicing.

parts availability dealer has good stock and previous records from previous owner unit is second hand.

optional extras are reasonably.

i would have no problem recommending this unit to anyone. i would do so with confidence. even if the engine is a brigs and stratton good dealer. easy to operate. smooth quiet. reasonable price for the unit and optional extras. nothing at this stage. however i dislike brigs and Stratton(engine brand). however they have improved allot over the years.

Husqvarna LTH 2038 – I just bought a Husqvarna LTH 2038 20Hp 38” cut. I cut the grass once & noted that the cut was horrible so I checked the deck alignment & tyre pressures. where I bought the mower from & they wanted to order me in a new tyre, however after complaining they gave me a new one off another mower so I’m happy.

After installing the new tyre & aligning the deck the cut was great & the mower went well. The 20Hp Briggs & Stratton motor is a little loud & has that old Briggs & Stratton rattle to it.

The only real complaint I have is I found this mower at several places in the USA for $1700 but in Australia I had to pay $3300????? Why do we have to pay so much more considering our dollor has been stronger for some time now.

Would I buy this mower again?????
