Had mine 10 years since new and been impressed. Has worked very hard in rocky country and probably not serviced as often as it should but had no problems. The odd broken blade and spindle. I would definitely buy one of these again. Show details

Thousands spent on repairs – I have owned a 2142 for ten years. It has 300 hours on it. It is constantly breaking down. Two motor rebuilds, two drive belt spindles broken, several belts. It has been very disappointing. Show details

Lemon – 3rd time back to the mechanics as the engine won't turn over due to metal parts breaking down inside. 650 hours on clock. Briggs and Stratton engine and Husqvarna are not interested. Common fault from internet researching with others. Better investment would have been sheep! Show details

Reliable and easy to operate – Love my 2102 2142Dr 42” cut Husqvarna which I bought 2nd hand in 2017/8. So easy to operate and cuts lawn like a dream. Over 4 years I only had to replace blades, petrol tank (leak) and a battery so it’s been very cost effective. Used in Victoria on 1.5 acres , some good lawn, some rougher areas. Comfortable to ride, initially felt too high up… Read more

after my old Greenfield mower but quickly got used to it. Absolutely look forward to the mowing with this little beauty. Always blow the grass cuttings off the machine and give a quick wipe down after each use and store dry in shed. Highly recommend.

Forget Husqvarna - very disappointed – Purchased one in 2014, believing we were buying a quality brand name mower. Within 6 months the engine failed, and thankfully was repaired under warranty by the dealer. Apparently a head gasket, which I'm then told wasn't uncommon...(mind you the salesman didn't mention this before I bought it). This was not a good start. However, I've never… Read more

really been happy with the mowing quality from the start. Always leaves an uncut line between the blades, which is very obvious when turning. Have replaced spindle housings (on the blades) on many occasions now. They are too weak, and the dealer simply says they are designed that way to break when you hit something with the standard (solid bar) blades, in order to protect the deck etc (yes we have a small amount of rock in the soil, so hitting things occasionally is a little unavoidable). The dealers "solution" is to keep a spare spindle on hand and don't hit rocks or roots.

The other thing that really annoys me is that reverse speed is simply way too SLOW and is very frustrating.

Moving forward to 2020, the engine was running poorly again, culminating soon after in a huge cloud of smoke and some internal 'clanging'. I'm honestly ready to toss the thing, but decide to do a bit of research on-line first, only to find that these 21HP B&S Endurance engines are truly unreliable, and so many others have had the same issues as I have. There is absolutely no way I'd spend $1500-$2000 plus as others have to get fixed again.

So I take a risk and buy a brand new, complete Chinese 16HP engine from Jono and Johno in Ballarat, VIC for $650, with a 2 year warranty. It arrives a few days later. It looks great, and is physically a direct retrofit of the B&S, though I made a couple of minor mods to suit the mower. Probably spent 3 hours on it all up, fill it with oil, and it stated no problem.

Everything worked perfectly, as it did with the B&S (when it was still ok). Start mowing, expecting the 16HP to struggle a bit, but there was no noticeable difference at all, though I expect the difference will be noticeable in really long or wet grass. Was really happy for an hour or so, then: I hear noise from the mower deck, and the top bearing in the right hand spindle has collapsed. Normally it's the housing that breaks, this time it's a bearing failure. Anyway, the same supplier, Jono and Johno have spindles (at a much better price than the dealer), but I discover they also have a swing away blade conversion kit (like Cox use), which hinges the blades so when they his something hard, the blade can swing away, rather than impacting through to the spindles etc. So now I've ordered a 3 pack of spindles (one's a spare), plus the swing away blade conversion set - total cost $175 - should have them in a few days, and we'll be back mowing again. Hopefully, the swing away blades will be the solution for breaking spindles.

Conclusion: I'd NEVER buy anything Husqvarna again. The good looks and the brand hype are irrelevant really - its how its built that matters, and my personal evaluation is that the Husqvarna has proven to be a poorer quality mower than the ancient 13HP MTD mower that I'd had for many years prior. This mower would have been scrapped now if it wasn't for an affordable brand new Chinese engine swap that breathes new life into it and makes keeping it going viable, provided of course that the rest of the mower stays together.

I've added some pics with the new engine installed, just in case someone else has similar issues and is looking for a way around it.

If I were to replace it, which will happen eventually, I'll bite the bullet and invest in an Australian made Cox or Greenfield, that I believe really are engineered so much better than anything coming from the USA.

Engine failure – Bought this mower in 2013 and it went well for about 2 years but I hadn’t worked it hard. In 2018 I’ve clocked only 131 hours of mowing and I was told today by the dealership that the rings are blown and I will need a new engine! I paid $3,350 for the mower and a new engine will set me back $2500. It blows plumes of smoke now which makes it a health hazard to use and lacks the power it once had. NEVER buy a Husqvarna!  Show details

Fantastic mower easy to use very reliable – I have one acre and this mower does it with ease and comfort. Very easy to use and after 90 hours has been very reliable. Get it serviced annually treat it carefully like all machinery and have had no problems. Surprised by some of the negative reviews. I bought this brand because a number of colleagues and Neighbours recommended it and am very pleased.  Show details

Biggest waste of money piece of junk – Purchased this mower in 2012 for $4999 and has been trouble since the first mow. Engine cutting out when foot flat on the accelerator, battery flat every time we went to use it after about only about 6 months, Ultra uneven cutting right from new, multiple head gasket replacements, needed to put tubes in tyres as they kept going flat (no puncture)… Read more

belt keeps flicking off the pulley wheels. We don't even have a big lawn, we take care of it as $4999 is a lot of money to us and it doesn't even get used very often. Would never buy a Husqvarna again and certainly wouldn't recommend.

Continually breaks down, expensive to repair and service – When spending $4000 for something you'd expect it to operate efficiently. After second time mowing supporting pins fell off and had to be ordered in as the Dealer doesn't keep them in stock. When it was time for a service had to pay the Dealer more than my car service. Next time I mowed the transmission belt jammed under the pulley. Had to replace… Read more

it as you aren't able to free it without cutting it off. Battery flat twice in 3 years. Regret not buying a goat.

Pretty average. Good engine – I bought our LTH2142DR new for our acreage to replace an aging LTH19530 and we have now done about 200 hours with it. We have 4 acres and this was the model that Vic Point Mowers recommended. I wanted the YTH model because I had heard the fabricated decks are bullet proof on these, but the shop down-sold me; probably to clear stock. The engine… Read more

is tough, that's because it's a Briggs. The deck is junk. Thankfully I know my way around a toolbox as I have to work on some part of the flimsy deck, the belts, bearings or mounts every 10 hours or so. And I am not hard on the machine.

Pay the extra money and buy a machine with a fabricated deck. Also, avoid the Husqvarna brand totally as I find any parts for these machines cost more because of the brand.

I would not buy this again given the choice. #SeriousBuyers#Regret

This unit defies all the critics – We purchased our new mower off the floor from the local dealer here in town. I wanted a mower with a fabricated deck as our property has a lot of rough ground that wrecked the deck of our previous ride on. I am absolutely thrilled with the entire unit. I really love the external screw on oil filter and the large fuel tank. The seat is very comfy… Read more

and easy to adjust. I have read where people have had problems with the grass being cut level and uniform across the three blades. I have no idea why they complain. The three blades cut perfectly and the cut across the lawn cant be faulted.

Some of our grass has grown long and "stalky" following a cyclone and in many areas is quite dense. The "stalky" parts are around two feet high and very tough. To cut this form of grass, I lift the deck to the highest position and run over the area three or four times as the stalks cant be lifted by the updraft off the blades. This is no concern to me as it's only the initial cut with the grass being so long. Once the stalks are trimmed, I drop the deck and get a constant perfect cut. The grass is now a beautiful lawn that I am so proud of. Cutting the grass/lawn is now a very easy and faster job than ever before.

Mechanically, the design of the mower is excellent. The drive belts are very easy to replace and check. The shorter blades spin at high speed with lots of torque and can cope with hard use easily. I am very pleased to see that the cut grass doesn't gather around the three spindles or pack up in the belts or vee pulleys. The V twin cylinder engine runs ever so smoothly with no shake at idle speed. To change direction to reverse requires the ignition key to be rotated to a second position. If left in the normal run position, the engine stops when reversing. I find this to be a very good thought out safety feature as my German Shepherd often follows me and is not always easy to see . The stopping engine is an instant reminder to check whats behind you when reversing. The key can can be left in the reversing position if constant reversing is required. I am very pleased with this unit and I fail to see why people have complained so bitterly about it.

Probably the best I've ever owned – I recently replaced my Husqvarna LTH 1797 ride on which had a grass catching kit with the current model Husqvarna LTH 21/42 fitted with a mulching kit. The old model was a pretty good mower and still going strong after about 320 hours but grass cuttings were a constant headache. The catcher bins would fill up in just 2-3 minutes and then disposing… Read more

of the cuttings was a separate exercise so it was necessary to mow more often to ensure the cuttings weren't too voluminous.

The new mower with the mulching kit eliminates any significant residue of cuttings. These are much finer and seem to be forced into the grass so you don't see them unless you mow really short when the grass is long. Eliminating the side chute of the catcher also makes it easier to get through confined spaces.

The mower itself is more powerful yet more fuel efficient than the smaller mower and easier to use. The cutting deck is activated with a pull button instead of a lever and the belts are never actually disengaged, so loading them up is not abrupt and the belts are under less strain.

The machine is robust and well-built and the limited slip differential avoids the grass churning of a solid axle in tight turns while still engaging both driving wheels if one starts to spin. This makes it much easier and safer to mow when traversing a slope. All in all, this is an excellent mower for small acreages and great value for money.

This review probably sounds like advertising copy but I really think it's that good.

Worst purchase I have ever made – The first time I used it the blade belt flew off when it touched the grass, the pully on the rocker arm was installed upside down. Second time I used it it broke a spindle, it has since broken 3 more. I'm also on my third overpriced blade belt. The engine now has a disturbing knocking sound and appears to be leaking fuel. This piece of junk is only one year old purchased brand new. it's orange everything

LTH2142D is a good buy – I had a viking 42" for 12 years and finally put it out to pasture. I looked and tried alot of mowers in the $4000 range to maintain 2-3 acres of lawn, and decided on the Husky for a number of reasons,; design, ergonomics, quality of build, maintenance. The problem with a lot of the other brands is build quality with flimsy, cheap fittings… Read more ·  1

designed to last 24 months before self-destructing.

I've done 50 hrs on it and everything is going fine, also really easy to adjust your blade settings if one side's cutting lower. I'd recommend it to anyone. Quality build, comfortable, thoughtful design. One gripe only, that is the small petrol tank - no great drama either.

LTH2142DR – I recently bought the new Husqvarna LTH2142DR with their new U-drive and the auto diff lock. I have now done 12 hours on the mower and All I can say "BUY ONE" They are fanrastic. of investigation on all types of ride-on mowers before I bought the Husqvarna. Most of my neighybours have Husqvarna machines so I admit that was an influence. The new Torro ride-on mowers are cheaply build with plastic hoods , the smaller one has a chinese engine with a plastic casing gearbox. Most other ride-ons mower manufactureres seem to be cutting the cost of building their machines with most others with flimsy plasic bodywork(which I somehow doubt will last in our severe Australian sun)pressed metal front axles, and non-serviceable gearboxes. Husqvarna seems to be the only company that has bucked this trend. I rate this machine 5 stars All metal build, diff lock, 20cm turning circle, solid construction, great engine, 3 year warranty Nothing at this stage

LTH 2124DR – I've had mine for a week now and I can only find one real although small complaint. I have a couple of 100ft gumtrees on the front lawn that drop leaves prodigiously, my old Victa 13hp used to mulch them to pieces where the Husqvarna tends to just throw them out the side discharge at a rate of knots but still uncut. I'm ordering the mulching kit… Read more ·  6

to see whether that helps.

The grass now looks like a golf green it cuts that well. The Limited Slip diff is a huge bonus on slopes or towing the trailer.

U-Cut is amazing, the turning circle can be almost nil although you do have to slow right down otherwise the front wheels will scrub.

The big engine (21hp) is probably overkill, I can't see much difference between it and 13hp.

Electric PTO seems fine, it was a concern of mine before purchase never having used one before.

All I have to do now is disable all those stupid safety switches (common to all ride-ons) as the seat switch cuts the motor if I take any weight off the seat to look over the bonnet/sides for obstacles. Pretty much everything. Finish is superb Smallish fuel tank. Could be cheaper why is it half the price in the USA? $4000 here. :(
