I'd prefer to have adjustable thread tension on my bobbin remove bobbin case to insert – I love the space between needle and body. I prefer an adjustable tension bobbin. Like my Bernina 1130. Nit sure how to lift presser foot ex. Shutting machine off. Going to read people's reports . Bought used. Lady dropped off. And took off Never heard from her. Should've researched viking better. Love this machine! – Husqvarna Viking does it again! Great machine for the beginner as well as the advanced level user. There are many different stitches to choose from but not so many that it is over whelming. The large throat space is perfect for quilters and for anyone sewing large projects. I love the simplicity of the needle threader and the computer screen indicator. Can't get enough of the Swedish designs.
What a "Dream Machine" – This machine makes life so much easier for an average sewer like me, with self threading needle, bobbin winding whilst needle still threaded, it lets you know what tension and what needle for your chosen fabric, the list goes on and I bought it on special for half price, gotta be happy with that. Hassle free sewing hooray!!!!!!! Make sure you read all instructions for whatever you do.
Extremely disappointed – The thread repeatedly breaks no matter what type of thread I use. The computer display screen only works sometimes. Was disappointed it didn't have built in scissors like my other Husqvarna Viking machine. I have only had this machine 4 days and am taking it back to my place of purchase tomorrow morning. Bought it exclusively for quilting on a… Read more
frame because of the long throat have wasted all weekend trying to get it to work properly. So disappointed in this machine. The long throat Computer screen not working all the time. Thread keeps breaking
Disappointing – I am a designer of handbags and have been a seamstress for over 40 years. This was my first Husqvarna sewing machine and I am quite disappointed in it's ability to sew many layers. When you use more than 3 layers of fabric the machine begins knocking and many times it will tell you that then the presser foot is too high to continue. I've owned… Read more
it for 6 weeks and it has already been in the shop for repairs. This machine is really only best if used for quilting or light layers. I was told at the store that it was designed to sew commercially but it definitely is not! If you're quilting, then it is probably OK. Too many times the thread comes out of the eye while sewing or it just breaks. It stumbles over making fancy stitches when there are layers of fabric involved. Easy to use computerized mechanisms; smooth stiching over light layers of fabric Bulks at sewing many layers of fabric; thrread keeps breaking or coming out of the eye of the needle; knocks when using heavy fabric
Well featured mechanical sewing machine loaded with accessories – This was bought as a back up sewing machine for travel use. It is lighter at just over 6kg than my other machine and is purely mechanical. It is light enough for travel but strong enough for more than occasional use. It is a top loading machine and comes with a hard case and a host of presser feet- 11 in total. It is the 140th anniversary… Read more · 1
limited edition machine but appears to be essentially a Emerald 122 sewing machine so what I say for the Tribute 140M could be applied to that model. All that is different from what I can tell is the colour of the sewing machine, the support material and packaging. The machine has a ruby to garnet red colour instead of the turquoise/emerald colour of the Emerald line of machines.
Oh and it came with a great zippered accessory gift bag with room to store feet and other supplies you do not get with the Emerald machines as it is limited edition, a gift with purchase.
It has a strong sounding motor and it sews smoothly. I have repaired a thick sun hat around the edge sewing through many layers of fabric. It pieces patchwork fabric well and has no problems negotiating its way over thick seam intersections. I tested it on denim, the bottom of a too long pair of jeans and it sewed right through the hem all the way around including over the flat felled, very bulky seam intersection area of the hem. Other machines in the under $500 category did not, mind you, this machine was on sale for $499 instead of the RRP of $799. I have not found another machine at the same weight that sewed as nicely though. Most of the other machines around $800 are about 8-10 kilos in weight so even though they sewed nicely, they were a bit heavy, if I need to fly with the machine as hand luggage.
It sewed corduroy fabric easily and it was fine for sewing on thin cotton voile, did not munch up the fabric.
It has a jam proof bobbin and I have not managed to tangle up the threads at all. It is easy to thread with a little diagram on the bobbin cover to help. Threading the top is easy and everything feels nice and smooth in the thread path, nothing snags on the thread or feels rough. The bobbins are clear plastic and the door for the bobbin area is clear also so I can tell when the thread is running out.
The machine lighting is good enough for night time sewing. It is incandescent lighting but perfectly bright enough for night sewing. There are some shadows here and there but an additional lamp would eliminate most of those. The lighting is perfectly adequate to get by with.
The presser foot is nice, it is a white, flatter design, so the foot stays down and relaxed when sewing. No aching foot after hours of sewing. It has a hard case included with it. The accessory box is the extension sewing area and has a section at the back that is long and narrow for tucking things like the seam guide or the buttonhole foot into. At the front is a bucket style accessory flip out lid area in which bobbins and the 11 included feet can be stored along with cleaning tools. The feet are all snap on feet. They clip into the front of the foot and are easily pulled off to change them over. They are tight fitting onto the ankle. The buttonhole foot is of the type you insert a button into, pull down a lever behind a part on the foot, and sew. It does the whole buttonhole in one step on the buttonhole sewing stitch program.
The fit of the accessory box around the machine is nice and snug. The quality of the presserfeet is very nice, smoothly made and high quality. The downside of the accessory box and perhaps my only real complaint is that the box is a bit small for the number of accessories supplied. Its no problem to store the feet in something else but I found when they were all put into the main bucket and the buttonhole foot placed in the rear storage compartment, there is no real room for digging around in there to pull out the sole you might need for whatever technique you need. Luckily I can and have begun using the accessory zip bag thing that was a gift with purchase but you might want to get some sort of plastic box with compartments for storage of feet for easier access.
I guess this is the downsize of keeping the machine reasonably compact in design.
The bobbins seem sturdy enough for plastic bobbins. The machine winds them firmly and stops when the bobbin is full.
The presser foot lift has extra high presser foot lift option for bulkier projects. The lever is on the inside of the freearm to the rear, which can be annoying for some sorts of projects like quilts, but for garments is no problem.
The machine has 22 stitches, a lot of utility stitches and some great stretch sewing ones, and a few decorative stitches, and it has all the stitches I could ever want for occasional use. I don't have to go out and buy a bunch of accessories just to perform basic sewing needs, as it is well accessorised. No walking foot, but most machines at that price point do not include one.
Unlike many of the other machines I considered at this price point it has adjustable stitch width for all stitches and adjustable needle positions in fine increments from centre to left. Many machines had only preset lengths and widths for stitches that could not be controlled beyond the default settings.
There is also feed dog drop lever, needle up/ down, and sliding speed control. The latter two are done by push button wire contact rather than computerised chips. So the machine is mechanical and robust for travel in a way that computerised machines are not. It will handle the odd bump or knock far better and should also last longer. The warranty on the machine is 5 years on mechanical parts, 5 years on electrical parts, and two years on labour. I feel confident the machine would last for at least that long.
The stitch quality is quite neat. The buttonholes are OK, not the most beautiful I have seen but for the price they are just fine. You can adjust the density of the beads by adjusting the stitch length and adjust the tension to make a neater buttonhole on some fabrics.
There is also adjustable presser foot pressure that works and you can feel and see a big difference in settings. It has settings for free motion darning/ quilting/ embroidery, for fine fabrics, medium and heavy weight fabrics.
The manual is well written and easy to understand. There are also some basic sewing tips for things like sewing in a zipper or sewing on a button by machine.
In all, this is a good mechanical machine with more features than other machines can have at the same price point I paid for the machine. I would recommend it but if you are a heavy sewer you might want a larger machine as the harp space isn't particularly large. I'd say its a standard size small machine and certainly not a stretched out model.
I think if the accessory box had been more functional in size and not cramped I might have been tempted to give this machine a 5 star rating. The cramped storage box however does not impact the way the machine itself sews. Well accessorised mechanical machine is well featured is light enough for travel but strong enough for everyday use. For the number of feet supplied, the accessory box storage is a bit small for easy access.
Love This Machine! – Finding myself in need of a new machine after 25 years, I looked around at various machines before deciding on the Husqvarna Viking Tribute 140M. I have not regretted my purchase! I knew I wanted a mechanical machine, with a few special stitches, this machine has that and more. 22 stitches, needle threader, needle up/down button, one step… Read more
buttonhole, quilter's ¼" foot, as well as an impressive array of other feet and tools all conveniently tucked away in a tool box at the front of the machine. One more great feature is the handy slide out stitch guide, which shows you which foot, tension, stitch length/width to use for stitch/fabric choice. Great price, very user friendly. Speed control, adjustable presser foot pressure, drop feed teeth, hard cover
