A nightmare – I paid 7 k for a Hustler Fastrak SDX and have had nothing but problems with this mower since new. Mike's Lawn Mowers in Harrah replaced the deck bearings three times, rebuild the carburetor twice, changed out one coil, and it spits and sputters and you have to set and let it clear up before advancing in three inch grass. It's been this way since… Read more
new. I was told I had water in the gas each time however rebuilding the carb and changing gas has done nothing. It's junk! I'm tired of paying to have the carb rebuilt to do no good. When I advised them of this I was told not to come back! Really did they think I was going to continue giving them hundreds of dollars each year for absolutely nothing. Hustled by Hustler. Never again . Oh 120 hours on this commercial mower
Long term rating of Hustler Fastrak HD – The mower has been great and extremely reliable with two minor problems. 1st was that the mower was delivered with a loose battery cable on the starter - the terminal burnt in two. Required a new solenoid. Fixed with no other issues. 2nd problem was dealer related service - they changed the hydro oil and over tightened the drain covers on the… Read more
bottom of the hydro gear 3100 units. The screws were stripped and it leaked fluid. I tapped the holes to a one size SAE bolt larger. Problem solved - no more leaks. 621 hours running strong but lately the starter is slow about engaging- I replaced the battery but it acts as if the battery is low at times when trying to start. I supposed that the starter is going bad.
never another hustler – my fatherinlaw bough this 36 in fastrk in 2007 passed away and i got it in 2009 every mow not yearly every stinkin mow you have to get it up unhook belt tensioner work the slide replace the belt then mow after it jumps of about 3rd time replace the chewed up belt ready for a new mower and guarantee you it will not be a hustler they have ignored my request for how to fix this for all these years so never again Show details
Fast, comfortable – Have a 15 acre undulating rural property with grass that grows all the time as I have no animals to graze on it. It can be up to 2 feet high and as thick as thieves. Never had a problem cutting it or flattening small ant hills. I also use it to move my 21-foot twin axle caravan in and out of the garage that weighs two tons and tow a small steel… Read more
trailer sometimes full of rocks and logs around the place. I had to replace a set of blades and a belt after 350 hours. Now the starter motor solenoid doesn't engage and I discovered after measuring safety switches, the clutch switch to operate the blades has a resistive connection in it and lowers the voltage to the solenoid to 6 volts. Replaced that and I will do another 400 hours. I sliced the back tyre when it ran over some barbed wire from a broken fence, and had to replace it. Very costly, but then they all are whatever mower you own. As I am an electronics tech I naturally do all my repairs and that is a bonus. Fantastic mower!
Nothing is perfect in this world but this mower is close – Boy so many negative reviews, I'm johnny homeowner and mechanic by trade. 2 acres of western North Carolina grass and weeds cut at 3.5" height. I have Hustler Fastrack 48" with a Kaw 22HP FS651. Between my wife and I we put on average of 46 hrs a year in the past 7 years with normal maintenance (per manual) check tire pressure the begin of each… Read more
month and have no major problems. 1-2019 I was performing normal maintenance plus had oil leak (crank seal) and one spindle bearing set growling - have order bearings, no dealer, no big problem look them up on line. After the first season i order aftermarket Gator Blades not the cheap ones and can not complain about the mower performance or reliability. Yes it likes fuel, but your operating this equipment wide open throttle! For the individual that broke the end of the crank shaft I just wonder if he was engaging the PTO at high RPM. Read the book it tells you engage/disengage at idle and raise or lower throttle. reading the price that some of these people paid WOW! I gave $5,500.00 new and thought that was to much. guess it is all on how use and maintain your investment. One last note this mower has giving my 22 year old leaf blower a break, by antecedent i had back the mower up next the tree line and found it does a great job of blowing leaves on the final pass going backwards, just be careful.
Worst mower I've owned – Dont know it I got a defected mower or what. It does not sling grass Hardly at all. It looks horrible and have to go over a lawn several times to make it decent looking. Its brand new with only 100hrs on it. I dont even get it off the trailer anymore. I use my walkbehind now. Show details
It's ok we have 3 x one hustlers – Yes it's fine the seat inflates and retract back we had a few problems with the x one two out of the three mowers the front wheel bolt broke off we go over curbs mow fields the front wheel bolts are one of the weak points of the mower it you do commercial property and if you the grass is 3 inches or higher the mowers don't cut the grass well we… Read more
hat to go over grass two or more times . One other weak point is the mowers are thirsty they burn twice as much gas as our x Marks did never sheared bolts off they were eleven years old if the grass is long and wet they drink more fuel . These mowers were designed for lawns. The hustlers are cheaper for reason they just are not built as good as other brands .these mowers are fine for residential lawns
The other weak point is the mowers leaves grass clipping and jinks ever where looks bad to the customer. Fyi keep a close eye on the hydrologic fluid oil levels makesure you check all the fluids ofton. We have mechanic do maintenance them regularly hope this helps
What a machine! – When I was a Maintenance Manager at a boys school, we purchased a Hustler. Yes,it was a little pricey but I was told it was the equivalent of a Hummer but I would beg to differ. IT'S A SHERMAN TANK!!! The grass where I worked was vast and the terrain was undulating. This machine rips through small twigs and absolutely slaughters long grass. The… Read more
ride is comfortable and the controls are easy. The cutting deck is thick steel and is virtually indestructible. It was always a pleasure to mow lawns with this beast. We chose the mulching option. The cut grass, after mowing, looked really beautiful and people commented on it. Serviced regularly, this machine will last for ages.
I would give it 10 stars if I could.
Hustler Tried To Keep Me From Posting This On Their Website – We purchased one of these mowers back in 2008 and it worked well for about 500 hours and then it turned into a money pit. The major problem with this mower and all other Hustler mowers is they use Hydrogear transaxles which are cheaply made and poorly engineered. Another problem with this brand of mower is they do not have enough service centers… Read more
around to get your mower serviced. Where I live there is only one to cover 3 counties and the shop that services them is unreliable. Excel Industries which manufactures the Hustler brand is hands off when it comes to distribution and the major distributor for them in my area of the county is Cook's Power Equipment in Groveland, Florida. We made several attempts to contact the local sales rep for our area and was never called back or followed up with. Hustler does not have enough service centers, dealers and quality people in their network to take care of you. It's for this reason that I advise looking at another brand of mower.
Never Again – I bought a Hustler mower for $6500 and it had 140 hours on it when the shaft that engages the blades sheared in half. I took it back to my dealer and it was out of warranty. The verdict was the engine and mower deck were both damaged beyond repair. So for my 6500 i got about 2 years of mowing about 1/2 acre of normal grass. I will NEVER buy a… Read more
Hustler again!!!! I tried to deal directly with Hustler and they said too bad it was a Kawasaki problem not theirs. I could swear i bought the mower at a Hustler dealer.
It's ok – We do landscaping they don't cut tall grass that great like over 3 inches have now twice sometimes leaves grass glimpse every where the Moyers are thirsty us twice the fuel as our x marks and the x marks cut better and are eleven years old . Think we will get 4 seasons out of them that's only because we service them regular gas far as work when… Read more
they want too would not buy these again save money just buy better mowers later and fuel cost will cost you more
Fantastic mower – Great product, very reliable and cuts grass evenly. Great zero turn capacity and very stable on uneven and sloping ground. Never had an issue with the motor. Only problem that I have encountered is with having the front wheel constantly in need of repair - have taken it to the local dealer 5 times already and now given up as it keeps going flat. FOOLS WITH MOWERS – Amazing ??? All the negativity written by fools. Uneven cut?? fix it either bent blades or un level deck. Flat tyres, your car tyres will also go flat - fix it if it needs tubes so be it Hustler simply the best machine on the market - remember fools, maintenance Show details
Not so sure now – We bought a new Hustler X one with 60 inch deck 12 months ago around $16000. Went for the American made thinking I couldn't go too wrong. Not so sure any more of the quality and back up service of this company. On to 3 rd set of blades (private use) which are wearing very uneavenly (yes I have checked deck level and baffel adjustments etc). Left… Read more
front idler/jockey tyre deflates on every mow (may contribute to blade wear). Dealership told me that this is a common problem (tubeless tyre) on left side and suggest I put a tube in tyre. Note the words "common problem". Also deck constatly needing cleaning due to caked up rubbish underneeth. Phoned company to get some answers and got shafted around and around until I gave up. Bottom line now if I was looking for a new zero turn I would look else where. Good Luck
Awful lawn mower – We bought a hustler super z for $13,000, after having this lawnmower a month a spindle broke. Then broke again months later. There have been several problems with this lawn mower. Including only having it for 18 months and the motor blew up. Lost money due to it being in the shop for a month to be fixed. I would not ever buy another one nor would I recommend anyone else to. Buyers Remorse!!!! – I have the 48" Hustler Fastrak HD... I bought it in November of 2016 but really didn't put it to good use until March 2017 so basically I've only used it for 3 months. After a short time of using this mower I've got some serious buyers remorse. I've already had one spindle replaced and after 3 weeks of that being replaced I now have another… Read more
spindle going out. I was told that the 48" decks are notorious for this problem. Yes, it was covered under warranty and this one will be too, however, owning a Lawn Care Business I'm having to put my mower in the shop and waiting until this is repaired and in the meantime I'm losing money. Today is Sunday 6/18/17 and tomorrow 6/19/17 I'll be dropping it off once again and once again I'll be losing money because my equipment sits in a repair shop. "Not Impressed" !!! Hustler has two choices in my opinion, they either get their crap right or consider a buy back, I don't have time for this. I plan on calling the manufacturer about this after I drop it off for the second time, I'm already prepared for the "run around" which will be unacceptable! One would think that by paying thousands of $$ for a mower it would last more than 3 months!!!
August 30th 2017 Update: Another round of buyers remorse
I recently wrote a review about this mower about a month ago and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse it Has! On 8/25/17 (Friday Morning) I unloaded my mower to my first job site of the day. I drove it to the back yard, engaged the mower and made two swipes only to quickly realize I threw my drive belt. One would think that losing a drive belt wouldn't be that big of a deal, even I thought the same thing. After I got the belt back on I started it back up to continue mowing and out of nowhere it was making one heck of a noise. I cut it back off but couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. I loaded it back on my trailer and once again here I go back to the place I bought it from. It was there I was told that when it threw the belt it threw it up and got tangled up in the fans that cools the transmission (there's 2 of them and there made out of plastic) it wiped out both fans. Absolutely Poor Design Again! I'm finding out in my 5 months of operating this mower there are numerous design flaws including the two spindles I've had replaced previously. I have placed a call to the factory rep for my area, do you think he's called me back yet? (NOPE)... So once again my mower sits in the shop and once again I'm losing money... Need I Say More?
Good Mower When It Works – I have some pretty steep hills on my lot, so I went with the Fastrak because of the Kawasaki engine and the ZT-3100's. During my first mow it was performing great, but when I got off of the mower to open a gate I was unable to start it back up. I took the seat off and saw that the electric connection to the right handle came off. Reattached and… Read more
kept mowing. After mowing for 1 hr, got off of the mower, and again it wouldn't start. Same problem, reconnected and kept going. Happened 2 more times, called the dealer and he told me to crimp the connection as best possible. I don't think this is a great solution, but I really think there is a design flaw when there is a loose connection to a joint that is frequently in motion.
Hopefully I will be able to get it fixed by the dealer, but really I just think it was poorly designed. Wish the salesman didn't talk me out of a bad boy.
Hate it – I am a farmer who has a large area to mow around the house. The area is quite windy and the grass gets out of control so I bought a hustler $14,000.00 worth . It cuts the grass in such a way that grass throws up into your eyes and near chokes you,it is severe to the point of being unbearable.I have complained to the dealer in Geelong and to Hustler but nobody has bothered.
I can help you – This machine is great. I live in the Kimberley Australia. I had a John Deere that just didnt do it. To be fair it was old and started to cost me with down time. 5 acres and I needed a goer. Look honestly they are put together really well. Strongly engineered and well supported even in this back water. I read plenty of disappointing purchases of… Read more
Hustler but I can tell you ridgey didge that they can cut it. Easy to service and maintain. I had to tell you all that you wont be disappointed. Hope this helps with your decision. Im happy , very satisfied. Steve - Price's Paradise , Broome, WA, Australia.
Better than sliced bread – Purchased the 48” cut Hustler Fas Trak a few weeks back. Now I have only used this mower on “lawns”, mine are flat and kept well mown. If I was only allowed one word to describe this mower it would be “Brilliant”! I have only used the tractor style ride ons previously and I thought they were good, but I didn’t know what the benchmark for good… Read more
should have been. This thing goes like a rocket, cuts like a cylinder roller mower, is fun to drive, runs on the smell of an oily rag and the power is scary. In fact that is the only thing I have worried about, the power. Using it as the manual says with throttle fully open and using the levers for acceleration etc. it is very possible especially in the learner driver stages (me now) to rip your head off on a low tree branch. It has a simple to operate deck height adjustment, throws the cuttings a full metre, handles 75mm of wet grass like it isn’t there and its even reasonably comfy, though at 191cm (6’3”) I do find the leg room a little squashy, but I am used to it now. I also intend to use it on much tougher tussocky grass, with the cutting height raised as the need arises and I can’t see it having any probs. there. The mower is more expensive than others around, but when you have a look at the robust, heavy duty construction and fully fabricated deck you can see the extra $’s. Only 7 hours on the clock but i am very impressed with this unit!
You need to get used to a ZeroTurn mower because that’s what they do, turn on their own axis and this will cause the rear wheels to tear up your turf if not careful.
Hustler fasttrak 52" 20hp kohler – Had it for years ran great other then but a small breaker, change oil, sharp blades and add gas. Going up steep hills always go up and down in rev just like any ZRT. I just trade it for a 60" 25hp kaw SD fastrak. Just because I could. good luck. Last long great lawn mower all around It was not a 60" SD well they didn't have SD when I got my 52"

Turn a real task into an enjoyable pastime – Had not realised how easier it is to mow large areas so quickly and do it in comfort. The Hustler's zero-turn precise control and speed allows me to cover our 5 acres of garden and lawn in an afternoon. I use to wonder why it was fitted with 2 fuel tanks (about 40 litres) when it only uses about 10L. for the 5 acres. I suspect you could really… Read more
ride it all day and comfortably mow a large city parkland with these tanks. Very strongly made and is truly commercial quality that can handle just about any terrain, and do a good job comfortably. Fast, reliable, comfortable, a fun in the sun experience. Does not have a beer fridge.
HUSTLER FASTRACK 48" Zero Turn Mower - Excellent – At the early stages after buying the Hustler and very impressed. It has a 22HP Kawasaki FS651 series motor, (a very torquey V twin cylinder of 724cc). After extensive worldwide reading on mowing and landscaping forums this was one of the mowers that rarely has a negative word spoken about it. My local small engine expert also spoke volumes of the… Read more · 4
brand and he doesn't even sell them.
The robust nature of the construction is only seen on a few mowers and the whole unit speaks of good design and longevity.
Arriving home with the mower after 25mm of rain on grass that should have been mowed at least a week earlier the temptation was to great to deny and it came off the trailer and into the job.
After being a little beginner wobbly the zero turn controls were worked out and the 1 to 1.5 acres of sodden grass was manicured to perfection. The mower never faltered and easily bettered the previous best JD (42") mow time.
The couple of hours mowing included gingerly sneaking round rock garden/tree borders and flat maggot straight runs that must have been round the Max. of 12+ KPH. (LOL)
Outstanding maneuverability was very interesting to get used to and surpasses the normal ride on mowers with lot less operator effort/fatigue. As operator experience increases (our first zero turn) time mowing will decrease with a much improved appearance of the grass - I think its a ripper bit of gear.
The mower used barely half of the one tanks of fuel and is appears very frugal in that regard. With fuel capacity of about 27/28 litres a lot of mowing can be done without refueling. A simple 2 way tap (accessible when seated) is behind the operators seat to change fuel tanks.
Price in country VIC, around $8,200 incl GST. Excellent Dealer summary at the time of delivery on the use and maintenance of the mower.
Another plus, judging by S/H units on ebay for instance, is that we expect it will still be worth some $$'s and a sought after unit if we downsize into town in the next ten years or so and didn't need it any more on a small town block. A cheaper / lighter mower probably wouldn't hold resale value anywhere near as good.
After considerable ringing around we couldn't get a better price from any other country dealer or the suburban Dandenong dealer. Quality, robust, resale, powerful and well noted for reliability ! Haven't noted any problems yet, will report if any occur.
Now tried and tested – Since my last post I have now used this mower on my (currently) vacant block. I mowed three acres of paddock which varied from small bushes to thick tussocks. Something really more suited to a tractor fitted with a slasher - but I don’t have one! Now I did go slowly, mainly due to the very rough surface and to look after my back but the mower… Read more · 4
did not hesitate at all, in fact I was blown away with what it did. I started off with the deck at full height as I thought it may be too tough but soon lowered it and mowed to around a 50mm height, without a hitch. The paddock now looks like a football playing field and an inspection of the blades after showed then looking like new. Totally impressed and worth every cent paid!!
