New Model an Improvement – Had a GN1100 (same tank as HC1100) installed about 4 years ago to get rid of noisy kettles off the bench top and to have a cup of tea without waiting. It was only when we returned from a holiday and the tank was cold that water was evident, fortunately I always turn off power and water on extended absences. Because of my background I dismantled the unit to find the cause which was leaking between the tank and the plastic fitting that the drain plug screws into with evidence of very slow leak. Aside from this design fault one has to remember that these components are sitting in near boiling water for years.

The good news is that the new model has no drain plug, so theoretically the leak problem should be eliminated so I have purchased a new one with the expectation it will last longer than the previous unit.

taps. Three years later and the replacement has blown and is leaking water. It leaks slowly at first so that you don't notice until water has seeped into the back of your cabinets, causing damage and swelling. Once you buy one and drill the hole for the tap - your are locked into this expensive, yet short lived device. As others have mentioned - the filters are seriously expensive - so you buy a few to save some money, then when the thing starts to leak you feel even more obliged to replace it! I am going to try to find an alternative system that will fit into the hole - Insinkerator was a very expensive mistake! They have it finely tuned to break just outside of warranty!

Excellent Boiling/Ambient water dispenser – We replaced a 10 year old Hydrotap with this Insinkerator unit and have been delighted with the performance. couple of ice cubes I have chilled water pretty quickly. The flow is better from the Insinkerator too as you can adjust the water flow with a small tap. It uses the water pressure rather than a pump system to deliver the water so far less to go wrong and much smaller to have in your cupboard. The only drawback might be that there is no safety for the boiling water tap. This is not an issue for us as we have no children in our household. We have positioned it so the hot tap is at the back and less accessible for smaller hands anyway. You do have that flexibility. The tap can be pushed out of the way too so it is not in the way when washing up in the sink. It has many advantages for us over the more expensive hydrotap and we would definitely recommend the Insinkerator unit. Adjustable temperature, Tap can be moved out of the way, energy efficient too No safety switch for the boiling water (not an issue for us)

Mine works very well – I have had a GN1100C (steaming hot water only) for over 3 years and it is a boon, never caused a problem. There is a bias to negative reviews being reported and the problems reported by others may yet happen but so far I am happy. One factor may be that I have connected it to a timer, so it switches off while we are at work each day and we switch it off when we are away. Also keep the temp a bit below 'Max' and change the filter yearly.  Show details ·  1

Good for almost 4 years – I have loved this tap, but noticed recently it was leaking from the boiler unit. Apparently I need to replace the whole tank, which will cost me around $800.! (when there are some available in the country). Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and get one. If you can get an extended warranty on this product make sure you take it out.!  Show 2 replies

I can not believe it has happened again! – We bought an Insinkerator boiling water unit in 2006 and it lasted 2 years. In 2009 we installed one in our new house, it also lasted a few years before the plastic tank split again. was triggered which left us with no power at 9:30 at night. The cause? you guessed it. I am not buying a fourth one. Something should be done about companies that keep manufacturing a product that does not last long enough to justify its cost.

I’m about to call for my third tank – First tank lasted 3 years, second is 3 years 3 months old and is leaking now too. Both damaged my cabinets. I paid for the first replacement but no way will I pay for this one. I’ll keep you all informed of my progress.  Show details

want to fix this issue is beyond me. Basically the flanges on both halves of the vessel start to creep under pressure and the gasket looses compression. So either use thicker steel (which is pennies) or add more screws along the gasket perimeter. Phil CEng

Great at first – I liked its elegant design and was fairly easy to install. However, after a couple of months, it started to leak from the base. I was able to fix it with the help of a couple of tools but it wasn't a permanent solutions. After sometime, it would start leaking again.  Show details

Designed to fail – The spout always spurted badly which I replaced myself, and even after the new spout it still spurted badly, sometimes burning myself. then it started leaking and after investigation discovered that this unit was designed to only last 2 years, the temperate button on the front of the unit the spindle sheared off, it leaked from the bottom of the unit which is impossible to repair. Great while it lasted – Loved it for 4 years then it started leaking. We thought (ie the plumber thought) it was from the cold water connector at the top. Actually I think it might have been from the tank itself. Same issue as others. It leaked cold water into the cupboard when the hot water tap was on. Great Idea but a Bad Product – Just rang Insinkerator as my 5th tank is leaking after only just 2yrs. All the others lasted about 18mth to 2 years. This is obviously a bad product for it to happen so often and to so many people. Insinkerator in 2002 had to withdraw the tanks for leaking and here in 2017 the problem still exists. My advice to anyone thinking of an Insinkerator hot water system is go elsewhere as you will have nothing but problems.  Show details

Didn't last long – I had mine fixed within the warranty period as it was leaking from the handle and hot water was constantly dripping from the spout. Then just after the warranty expired the water tank was bulging and finally gave up. Now I got the ZIp which seems to be working fine even after the warranty period.  Show details

Second unit & that lasted 18 months – First unit lasted 20 months, it was replaced with a new unit (GOOD SERVICE) 2nd unit lasted 17 months. That now leaks, getting in touch again. Only last 18 months terrible.  Show details

heap of rubbish – Had one installed Sept 2011 started leaking 2 years later warranty was just out but was given a replacement no cost, it lasted 3 years and is now leaking so up for $ 450 for a new one, I will get in touch with consumer affairs to ask how does this garbage be allowed on the market. its warranty cost a initially $850 plus installing and only last 2 and a half years. Its a pity as I like the convenience of not boiling a jug but simply having instant hot water

Leaky – Had my first of these about 4 years ago. It leaked within 8 months. Company sent an engineer to replace the unit. He said I had a dud leaky batch and they were replacing them. Had a second replacement after about 18 months (again courtesy of insinkerator). Customer service very good. My 3rd unit is now leaking again!

Don't bother with the insinks – We have had two of these Insinks both of them leaked the first one 18 months. The second one 13 months having ton look for something better hope we can find something or we will just have a tap that is useless.

Good product that dissapoints – We had the same problem first tank leaked just outside warranty & expensive replacement has now started leaking and don't want to go through all the cost again Look for better replacement before outlaying more $$$$$ and look for more reviews and better warranty Filters also very expensive and difficult to replace

Don't bother – We had one professionally installed. They sound like a great idea, but in reality they don't work very well. Very fussy about what you can and can't put in. Constantly having to clear it out. Easier to just throw your food scraps into the garbage.

Like A Politician; Promises A Lot & Delivers Disappointment – Hot water setting can't be set to highest level due to leaking. Expensive filters need replacing regularly. Waste of time and money. Not made in Australia and poor build-quality item. Whatever country it's made in, the parent company should be spanked for their lack of care. Shame on you Insinkerator.

Not worth the money – Had it fitted with new kitchen and it only lasted a couple of years then the boiler leaked. Very poor quality build, cannot be repaired need a full replacement. It also has very flimsy hoses which connect to your mains water supply. This made me nervous from the start. I am now left with a useless tap in my granite top and two spare expensive filters.

Not worth the money – If it breaks down while still under warranty they will just replace it with a new one. Why? because they don't make spare parts for them... Of course ours stopped working (and leaking) not long after the warranty. I ring the 1300 service number and she told me to buy a new one as it is a sealed unit and cannot be repaired. Had I known this I never would have spent $750 + installation - that's a lot of kettles!

Terrible! – Same story as all the rest, DO NOT BUY. Got a leak from the bottom of the tank like all the others in these reviews, I sent an email, they said nothing they can do. Not good enough when they know it is a problem with the model!

Great when it is working – We had ours installed with a new kitchen in 2007. Now Feb 2015 the element has packed up, it trips the circuit breaker. On opening it up it was just about full up with chalk and hard scale, possibly more frequent filter changes may have helped, but we are in a very hard water area. by a company called Gangchun in China, minimum quantity 800 units!! Also the thermal switch on the back of it is made by Strix in the Isle of Man. I called them but they do not sell these to individuals only companies like ISE to make the end product. Of course the old ploy of Health and Safety was quoted!!! So just installed a new boiler unit at £290, with 2 year guarantee so at the end of that I will strip it down and clear out the scale manually, an easy job as the boiling tank is held together with about 10 small nuts and bolts, with a rubber gasket between, that gasket could be a problem. We have had no leaks in the time it has been working only a slight weep from the tap above the worktop, which sealed itself, not sure how or why, maybe more scale. So maybe we were luckier than most having 7 years out of it, but I think only 3 star because of no service parts available, typical of a lot of companies these days.

Tis now 6 June 2017. Further problems with a partial blocked pipe,10 months back, causing very slow flow, tried de-scaler, and poking a wire up, to no effect, so had to buy a new tap assembly and Y piece at 163gbp & 17gbp.

In February 2017 I took it apart and descaled it, (as described previously) quite a lot in the bottom and up the sides. Gasket held OK, on reassembly, with no leaks. Bit of a problem when restarted with it over boiling, had to turn the temp setting back and slowly increasing it. Been working fine since then. I don't tend to replace the filter as often as they say, as they cannot 'soften' the water effectively at that working temperature, and the boiling water does not come out 'scummy'. Further progress reports as required.

Worst thing I have ever bought – within warranty, we had to have the whole thing replaced the tap screamed when dispensing cold water, and leaked from the filter fitting. now replacement just out of warranty, leaking from the boiler unit and have just spent on new filter. leaks before 2 year warranty – it was great using it brand new when we got it early 2013 for the office. After about a year the hot water started to leak a few droplets, and then 1.5years later, it's leaking almost everyday! Don't buy. This brand doesn't seem to specialise on water filters. Waste of money and resource.

are no guarantees regarding the life cycle of the new unit. This is very disconcerting that the service department cannot back up their product and all they can say is that the tanks are being supplied from another manufacturer. So am I too assume that generation 1 ( whatever) used an inferior stainless steel. Sorry Mr Appliance Service you won't be opening my wallet unless you can provide a guaranteed quality product that lasts at least 10 years. In the meantime I will use my trusted Alessi kettle!!!

Same old story! – Yep, another one. My instant hot water unit is 3 1/2 years old, cost $700 and is now leaking from the lid of the steel internal tank. Convenient. Worked well for 3 1/2 years. It leaks. So for the time it worked, it was a bad investment.
