Multitap with me! I use it for so many things. A cup of tea is what most people think of, but I also use it when in a hurry to boil or poach an egg, or steam vegetables or cook rice. Instead of cold water, I use the boiling water. I use it to blanch almonds, dissolve gelatine, kill germs on things, sterilise jars, quickly warm up a dinner plate or soup bowl, heat a palette knife to spread icing, or cut hard butter, etc. With the pandemic in 2020, it was very useful to scald things such as cutlery. I also use it with some dish soap in greasy pans or air fryer, leave it to sit a short while and give it a quick brush ... it soaks away any greasy surface quickly. There is not a day goes by that I don't use it. On top of its function, it looks so stylish (I chose the black and chrome one) and has a safety mechanism to stop young ones burning themselves. Love it, love it. I will admit I won it and am so happy I did. However, posting a good review was not mandatory. I genuinely get so much use out of it and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

hand. I had no difficulty installing the tap myself - needs only basic plumbing knowledge (such as how to turn off mains water and how to use plumbers' nylon thread tape to make a waterproof connection). The pictorial instructions were easy to follow. I've been using the tap for 5 months now and am still very happy with it. The only 'disadvantage' is that, since the handle is flat, it tends to collect stains from soap scum etc but it takes only a second or two to wipe clean.

Form and function – Pros: * Modern aesthetic with flawless chrome finish * Smooth lever actuation requiring little force * Good reach and vertical clearance to get… Read more

large items underneath * 15 year warranty (but only with installation by licensed plumber)

Nitpicks:

1. The flow rate of 7.5L/min is a bit low, however this is easily remedied by swapping the aerator for a full flow one. Although I wonder if the internal components were only designed or tested for 7.5L/min. The warranty and terms don't say if this voids the warranty. As a precaution I ended up settling on a 9L/min aerator, which also helps equalise the flow rate across the temperature range.

2. 3 out of 4 units on the shelf at Bunnings had slightly bent-inwards copper pipes, which places some unnecessary strain on the crimped hose connectors.

3. The nut on the male end of the hoses is only ~7mm tall and I could not find a hardware store which sold a spanner thin enough to fit. Therefore I could only hand tighten them by grabbing the length of the hose and twisting.

4. The large black nut which secures it under the sink is quite wide and may not fit as many sinks compared to the smaller semicircle clamp used by most other models. I had to remove a clip underneath my sink to make room for it.

Installation tip:

When tightening the nuts on the female ends of the hoses, remember to hold the hose body, otherwise once the nut's internal rubber washer grabs, the hose itself will start rotating, which causes the male end to start unscrewing (since clockwise at female end = anticlockwise at male end).

Long term testing:

I will revisit this review if any issues occur, such as leaks, corrosion, sediment in water, handle falling off etc. Otherwise you can presume I did not experience any issues.

6 month update:

The mixer is still performing fine, however there are a couple of nitpicks I have noticed.

1. The center temperature position is misaligned. i.e the hottest setting is about 35 degrees left of center; coldest is 80 degrees right of center. This means the temperature midpoint is about 23 degrees right of center, instead of dead center. This is the position I use the most, and if correctly centered would have prevented overlap between handle and spout stem, reducing water dripping onto stem when adjusting the handle, reducing watermarks on the chrome finish. I believe this could be solved by unscrewing and realigning the cartridge, however I'm terrified to start mucking with it as I don't want to break anything or cause a leak.

2. The temperature is not consistent throughout the pressure range. e.g with temp at center position, the more I increase pressure, the colder it gets. For example if I am washing my hair under the tap at mid point temperature and max pressure, and then reduce the pressure a bit to reduce splashing, the temp will get too hot and I must pull my head out to avoid getting mildly scalded. I must remember not to adjust pressure in this scenario.

On a separate note, I reverted to using the included 7.5L/min aerator as it splashes less compared to my two 9L/min ones, and it saves a bit of water too.

1 year update:

I started having an issue where rotating the spout would cause the handle and flexible tails to rotate in unison with the spout. This was putting unnecessary strain on the flexible tails whenever rotating the spout.

Luckily the fix was easy enough: remove the handle and tighten the 27mm brass nut another 1/8 turn. This also corrected the handle alignment issue, so now midpoint is exactly half way between hot and cold. Happy with this result as I thought it was going to be a warranty claim.

To clarify, the brass nut under the handle appears to serve 2 purposes:

1. Locking the mixer cartridge into place (which also determines hot/cold centerpoint position) 2. Locking the tap body internals into place (which prevents hoses from rotating when rotating spout)

I will still retain the 4 star rating I originally gave as the fix was so easy. If the cartridge had consistent temperature through the pressure range it would be a 5 star.

4 year update:

The underside of the spout arm developed a small corrosion hole causing water droplets to form and dribble down the spout. I am docking a star for this. Luckily I had purchased it from Bunnings and they swapped it over for a new one, which was amazing. But I'm not confident in the replacement given how quickly the metal has corroded on the previous unit. Although the replacement unit is manufactured November 2023, so they've had 3 years to hopefully improve quality control since then. We shall see how long this one lasts.

The price has also increased from $174 to $259 since first purchased four years ago, so I'm removing my original "reasonably priced" pro point.

Caroma/Dorf mixers, taps and showers. Three years later, it started leaking from where the neck meets the housing. Contacted GWA bathrooms and Kitchen, the parent company of Dorf and was asked to email photos of the issues and proof of purchase, which I did the same day and the next day I got a call back from them, acknowledging the issue and offering me a replacement. Because this model has been discontinued, a couple of options were given to me and I received the chosen option by post last week. All up, it took them 7 days to rectify the issue. I find this very impressive and thanks to the two people who dealt with my complaint and resolving it within such an impressive timeframe. After reading all the 5 star reviews for this brand, I took the plunge and am so glad I did.

The $80 price tag is $100 less than the failed one it replaced. It’s very stylish, feels solid and works flawlessly. I love the pull out hose and multi spray button.

Even more impressive is their customer service. I Emailed them regarding a tiny misprint in the product specs. They quickly got back to me with an apologetic and appreciative Email. They then gave me a $10 refund - to further thank me!

I will recommend this company and this product.

Out of the box, it was exactly what I wanted. HOWEVER, 2.5yrs on, and I am going to have to replace it. Incredibly annoyed to have it leaking in 2 places - from the tap end, and from the mixer lever. And the flaking finish is truly unacceptable. Very unhappy. Currently trying to go through the warranty process with Highgrove Bathrooms, but the very limited warranty attached to the product will likely mean I will need to purchase something else. So disappointed. Addit: contacted highgrove bathroom and got a new mixer - this one is still fantastic 18 months later! Apparently , I just got a lemon first time around . Have changed my star rating to 5 stars - everything is excellent!

particular the thick diameter of the mixer goose neck.

While it’s an expensive mixer the quality is evident with the mixer lever feeling smooth and solid.

My plumber reckons being European the hot and cold is the reverse of a typical Australian mixer and the lever sits on the side not the front, but hasn’t been an issue.

but Argent Australia is working at it) and I love the look and feel of the grohe. The minimalist side lever is excellent as it doesn't get grubby as easily and the mixer is a little taller when compared to the eurosmart kitchen gooseneck mixer. So much so that our next house is going to be entirely out of grohe (mainly because hubby doesn't want to keep changing the mixers every year!). Well aerated. Feels solid. Love it!

Perfect compromise between basic sink mixer and goose neck – Spent a long time looking for a mixer tap that satisfied four main requirements. 1). Needed to fit in with existing sink, we only had a 25cm splash… Read more

back with small working area - so wanted a mixer that didn't dominate the space. 2) Wanted more height than the standard mixers to make filling vases, jugs etc easier. 3) Retain the same reach as existing mixer without pull out hose. 4) Reliable brand with good warranty - mainly looking for Methven Grohe Hansgrohe

Looked at many offerings from the major brands. The goosenecks were simply too tall and would look out of place or were not from one of the providers we were looking for. After many iterations, I started looking around again and stumbled on the Maku line of taps made by Methven, the same people that made our shower head. They are a NZ brand and do have a good reputation for their taps. These ones are not goose necks though they will give some advantages over the current sink mixer. DIstance from base centre to nozzle is 19.6cm, current mixer is 20cm so a little shorter. Height from sink to tap nozzle for Maku is 18.5cm, current mixer is 10cm. Most of the goose neck nozzles I looked at were low to high 20 cms with overall height reaching over 30cm. Maku's clearance will allow us to fill our biggest vase, the water jug and Laundry bucket without issue. The nozzle was lower than any of the goose or U neck mixers I was looking at so splashing should be kept to minimum (in theory). The aerator in the nozzle can be rotated which will direct the water rather than just going straight down. The overall height keeps about the same level as the top of the splash back which is around 25cm ... so it won't stick out. The tap swivels. This tap was $469 35mm cartridge is standard size

Installation Was pretty simple with the only real struggle being positioning of the clamp plate. This was due to the clearance between the hot and cold water tube connections being very close together. There are two rods securing the tap to the sink which ensures stability, better than the one rod on our old mixer. Other complexity was related more to the lack of space under the sink than the product itself. Have provided a shot of how the tap came out of the box and included items (please ignore the two isolation taps as these were bought seperately).

Operation The tap is very smooth to run and glides between between flow rate and mixing hot and cold water. The initial flow rate was very strong so I have partially closed the isolation tap to limit flow as we wanted to reduce splashing. The O ring seal at the base of the mixer looks OK I do wonder if multiple O rings might provide a safer seal.

Results We have been using the tap now for two weeks and are very happy with the outcome. For me the only concern I have at the moment is how it swivels. Swivelling the tap basically swivels the whole unit aside from the tap. This means the base connected to the sink swivels this may reduce the life of the O ring, I'd feel more comfortable if the base remained in a fixed position though this may not have been feasible in production. At this stage I'm comfortable saying I believe I've selected the perfect tap to meet all our requirements.

and made by Ewing in Queensland, the quality looks to be excellent. They are even smooth and polished on the inside and all the internal workings. They are large and heavy, with a high arched spout, consistent brushed stainless steel finish and individual ceramic quarter turn hot and cold taps (not a mixer). The basin sets have contrariwise turning on/off, which I think is better suited to a lever tap design rather than these traditional cross handles (would love to see them available with lever handles). Arto messed up the spindles for them the first time around, but quickly rectified the error and were great to deal with. The plumber also had a fiddly time getting the handles to line up properly, and also had to use his own washers in the end.

Most solid stainless steel tapware has the tube-like 'pipe and pins' look to it, but this series of taps is cast, so it has graceful, traditional lines. All the joins and transitions are smooth too, which makes them easy to keep clean.

I bought them because I was looking for something that was solid stainless steel, wasn't plated and would wear and age well, but these are also great to touch and look at. Very happy, thanks, Ewing, Arto & Reece!

the spout with thanks to a rubber o-ring. Benn using it for over two years now. Overall a good tap with rather excellent waterflow for 4 star water rating.

Now for the bad, the chrome plating on the handle is starting to chip off the handle, but that may have been my fault or the kids. No leaks like other reviews on here, well ones that weren't the plumbers fault (tightened nearly everything by bloody hand) just had a small inlet hose leak, easy fixed but required the painful removal of the whole tap again.

Overall, considering it gets used daily and other than a minor leak over time with thanks from the dodgy plumber, I'd recommend the purchase, but maybe bear in mind others that have had leaks with the black pull out hose. If it's installed correctly, I believe the black pull out hose will last you years and wont leak, just make sure it goes up and down smoothly after it's been installed.
