l had a policy for funeral plan which was started in September 2015 which was being debited from my bank as a direct debit, when l went on line to look at it l found that the policy was not there any more, l contacted insurance line and they told me it was cancelled by them as they could not contact me as they only had my old address and l had not given them my new address and phone number, l was devasted all that money had gone to waste and l no longer had a funeral plan as l thought l had, the person on the phone said she would speak to her manager and l would hear back to see what could be done, l have had no phone call back. the policy was cancelled in 2021 and the policy number was 84157943, PLEASE can some thing be done to re instate the policy, please call me back to arrange some thing, 0409448560.

Hi Marie.no way they will not refund you.but they will gladly cancel it and keep your money.l started a new policy recently so it would not increase every year.So l lost all the money l had put into my policy over the last 10 years.

I was a member for 7 years and changed my policy to a no increase premium. So it does not go up each year.BUT they started me a new policy and I lost all of the money I had put into the previous account. Also is it right that they cancel your policy after you turn 69. I had a friend who was 79 and they cancelled his policy because he had only been a member for 2 years and they said he was too old to be a member and returned 3 payments to him.

How much is a funeral policy for aprox $12000 each our age is 77 & 80 years old monthly please?

My mother in law died July 16 and my father in law died Aug 17. She was 75 and he was 83. They had a VERY small policy for $2704 each, barely enough for a cremation. For that they were paying around $60 to $70 a month. (I do have the paperwork but would have to dig it out) When my mother in law died, the premium did not go down by half, but stayed at around 2/3 of the premium for them both. When I questioned this with the insurance company, they said that the insurance was cheaper when MIL was alive because she was younger and it therefore reduced the combined premium. So if you do the figures, you would most likely be paying around 4 times as much a month, $240/$280 per month for $12000 each. I wouldn't hesitate to say those amounts would be minimum amounts, it would probably cost more. But if you mind me saying, why on earth would you need that amount? My MIL had a lovely cremation and service for just under $3000, and I can honestly say it couldn't have been any better had it cost $12,000. We did not have a service for my FIL, just the cremation which cost $1875. Funerals are for the living, not the dead, a gathering in a relatives home to celebrate a life, would be minimal cost and, I think, much more personal.

Can you cash in your funeral plan if you wish to change companies?

felicity9

I believe it depends on your age. Some will at a certain age. It depends on your policy document. I'm looking into all these things at the moment before deciding on a funeral bond or insurance. Even if you have a capped age on the insurance, I think it is still up to the individual policy whether there is a cash back at the capped age. Prior to that, you may just lose your money.

Stew

No you get no cash when you change companies it is like your car insurance you get nothing when you decide at the end of the year, unless you cancel midway through the year you get some of your premium you paid on your car. But the funeral insurance is completely different to that and you ring and you will find out for yourself.
