IXL Appliances Tastic Sensation 3 in 1 Series

No good – Purchased ixl tastic Sensation from bunnings, nothing sensational about it. Fan is very weak. Power cut off when heater lights and fan operating. Turned off from mains and started working again. Now the heat light work very low.

Horrible Customer Service – I bought 3 x 3 in 1 IXL Tastic Heat Vent\Light at Bunnings Hardware - Underwood for my new home. 3 months after being installed the light bulb died so I brought the faulty light bulb and proof of purchase back to Bunnings for a replacement (the product is warrantied for 5 years). I was told they would contact the manufacturer and would phone me when the item is ready for collection. Then I got a telephone call from Bunnings to tell me that IXL Home Pty Ltd has asked that I telephone them direct as they wanted to do several tests to ensure that the whole component is not faulty (not just the light bulb). So hand on the telephone placed myself in the bathroom dialed the 1800 IXL Home Pty Ltd phone number ready to do the tests and answer any questions they may have for me only to be told that all they want from me is make the warranty claim direct and to email proof of purchase. I am posting this on facebook to advice everyone out there that warranties doesn't mean anything. Both retailers and or manufacturers generally do not want to hear of a faulty product and makes it difficult for the end users to make warranty claims and in most cases they get away with it because of the time and money involved in doing it.

Do not purchase this – We had a cheap extractor fan in our ensuite , which worked perfectly . Having done up our ensuite we had an ixl tastic easy duct 3 in 1 fan light installed , it does absolutely nothing, every part of the ensuite is covered in steam . Purchased for $309 and $150 for installation , the company advised us to replace it or install another extractor in there absolute rubbish .purchased in October but not installed until march 2017

IXL tastic is not a strong contender – IXL Easy Duct Tastic replaced a previous IXL product after many years of service. The previous unit started dripping water, didn't quite cover the hole in the ceiling, and was well noisy. But most importantly, the previous product did not clear much of the steam from a shower. The new unit (IXL Easy Duct Tastic) looks super, it is slim and modern looking, but on closer inspection is actually this is pretty much the same unit as the previous one, just with a new plastic shroud.

The issues...

Extractor fan

The extractor fan is in line in a duct and is almost soundless and very very weak. So weak in fact that there is no noticeable difference in showering with the fan on or off. There is a fan up in the ceiling, I've seen it. It doesn't look broken and it does spin, so did IXL supply this fan unit on purpose?

Centre light

The centre light would not get a review if the fan had not fallen so far below expectation, but it further exemplifies the approach IXL has taken with the Easy Duct Tastic. Despite LED globes being the current standard, the Tastic uses an older fluorescent globe, and the cheaper fluorescent globes took an age to "warm up". Guess which globe IXL chose.

Little plastic tags

Getting nit picky here, but... To keep the hot globes away from the plastic shroud, IXL uses these thin plastic tags. If the previous IXL product is anything to go by, these tags will break super easily, and will result in melting the plastic shroud. This melting of the previous unit resulting in the banning of heater lamps in our house - fire risk anyone?

So, in conclusion, the IXL Easy Duct Tastic aims at a barely acceptable minimum. Yes it has a fan, a light, and 4 heater lamps, they are just remarkably poor. I had held the Australian IXL manufacturing company in high regard, but now? You know what it's like to be let down by someone you trusted?

Sadly, the IXL Easy Duct Tastic is just another low performance product, save yourself some money and buy a generic brand, you are unlikely to do worse.

IXL Easy Duct Sensation - Unfit for Purpose? – We bought an IXL 4 lamp Bathroom Heater,Light and Fan ducted to outside with draught flaps. Despite having 4 lamps for a large bathroom, it only came with an inline fan suitable for a small bathroom. When I called [Name removed] in customer service she suggested buying another extractor fan over the shower with no ducting to outside or draught flaps! Problem now fixed by throwing out the IXL fan (62 Ls) and replacing with a 163 Ls unit. Also had to change fluoro 2 min to illuminate globe for LED - recommend latest Phillips LED 9w.
