IXL Tastic Silhouette 3 in 1 bathroom light, fan, heating. Faulty light – Our IXL Tastic Silhouette 3 in 1 has been installed for over 10 years. Recently the central light stopped working in its usual manner. i.e turn the main light switch on and press the circular button on the IXL remote. It will only come on if there's steam present and the exhaust fan is running. Any suggestions regarding what we might be able to do to get it back to "on demand without the shower running" ! ?
PS - I've tried 3 different globes in the unit, same result each time.

Design Issues – We have had 2 of these units in service for 17 years with the only issues being having to replace several globes. Recently, however a globe exploded and showered my wife with glass fragments. Luckily she was wearing slippers and sustained only minor shock. Inspection showed the globe had probably stuck to the lamp cover which was melting which may have caused the globe to explode. We inspected the other unit lamp cover and it had also started to melt. Requests to IXL Appliances for an explanation and new lamp covers were not responded to. I have seen other reviews where similar incidents have occurred in the warranty period. The units should be supplied with a more heat resistant cover or should include a warning to replace the covers on a periodic basis specified by IXL based on their customer experience. A supplier of spare covers recommended 275 watt and not 375 watt globes be used to increase the life of the covers. If the cover material has not been upgraded then a globe incident could result in a serious injury. Post Review Note.After submitting the above review, an IXL REPRESENTATIVE made the offer below. Dangerous fire hazard and poor customer service – We purchased the ixl silhouette 4 globe bathroom heater extractor fan in April 2016. Recently my wife was cleaning the shower alcove in the bathroom and two of the heat globes blew at the same time. One of the globes exploded over my wife’s body, which was terrifying but luckily she was not badly hurt. We contacted the electrician who installed it and he found that it had rusted connections for all globes and the plastic fascia had melted. I contacted IXL to let them know about the potential fire risk and to see if they would reimburse us the cost of our replacement unit as the original was under warrantee. They told us to send in a request in writing which we did on the 8 July 2020. We got an acknowledgement but no other response. Since then I have followed up three times but they just ignore our requests. Our electrician told us that some other fan heaters have a sensor that turns them off if they get too hot. He told us to never have ours on for more than 30 minutes otherwise the same thing could happen. It makes us wonder how many bathroom fires are caused by ixl fan heaters.

Great Australian Made Exhaust – Purchased this recently from Bunnings. Air extraction is 407 cubic metre per hour. My bathroom size is 3 metre by 1.8 metre and does an excellent job with only a small amount of condensation on a cold window. No condensation if the bathroom door is left slightly ajar. Made in Australia with a 5 year warranty. Excellent heat lamps and great LED centre light. Highly recommended.
