Janome make quality machines. The Janome Excel is excellent – I sew everything with this machine. Have it serviced 2 yearly. Parts are easy to locate if needed. Sews all fabrics well if needles changed regularly, kept clean and oiled. I love this machine. My daughter bought one having used mine and I bought one for my granddaughter because they are so easy to use. Show details
Very good I love Janome and I think it is my 3rd one since 50+ yrs – I sew all my clothes and I even made all the bridal party and accessories without any hitch.onLy my overlocker I did not like the way to thread it specially when the threading get undone. But the machine itself I mean my overlocker which I bought 1995 Is still working well. Very happy with sewing any fabric, of course you need a a bit of adjustment and I was regular with my servicing. Not sure of the zigzag stitch adjestment, otehr Elna machine you just had to flick a switch for zigz – I have had my Janome Excel for several years, but still don't use it fully, not sure how to adjust to make the zigzag stitches...................i mostly use it for mending now kids have grown, but wouldn't be without a machine as it's there when i need it, and though not a professional sewer i give it a go
Janome Excel 5024 – Paid $499 in 2004 at Myer & used it heavily for 9 years; never have it serviced/oiled. Now tension, stitches, bobbin holder & winder are playing up but I don't want to pay over $100 plus parts to have it repaired. So I decided to buy a new machine for around the same cost. Overall, I liked the Janome although never tried to use most of the other… Read more · 1
foots that came with it. I find the Manuals not very helpful, only tells of basic info but not the problem solving. It did the job, user friendly and durable (got 9 years use out of it) Expensive, Believe I paid too much for it - $499 in 2004.
Good – I really like this sewing machine. It is relatively easy to use with simple stitches. Easy to thread and wind a bobbin. I have never used most of the additional foot attachments, though the automatic buttonhole attachment is fantastic. I did have to go back to the manual to work out how to do them as I don't use it often. A strong machine… Read more
that has easily sewn through anything I have put in it. I would only buy another machine now for more fancy stitches but this machine is still going strong. A really simple, easy to use machine that does basic stitches. The bobbin cover comes off, is clear plastic and can easily get lost.
Great machine for beginners and experienced sewers alike – Brilliant machine that doesn't complain no matter what I put it through. I've just bought a new Singer and given this to my mum - I think it will last her another ten years. Easy to use, full of stitches you will actually use. Solid metal body. Good case. Easy to get parts for, smooth stitches. reliable, long lasting workhorse.
Excellent – I would recommend this machine to a new sewer and too an experienced one. If you do not want a lot of fancy stitches, this is the machine. I sew curtains, clothing, leather, fine materials and can free hand quilt. Easy to thread, fill bobbins and good manual. Simple and easy to use. Not expensive to purchase and has adequate stitching, can use… Read more
for quilting, stretch sewing. Strong machine and a needle threader. Nothing at all. My second machine in 25years and I know I will never need to replace or upgrade this machine.
Good – I have had this sewing machine for over 6 years now and it has served its purpose very well. I use it regularly and also do some quite heavy duty sewing with it and it is very relaible and up to every challenge I give it. I like having the bobbin winding where you just flick it over and begin winding without having to de-clutch the machine. The… Read more
built-in needle threader is fantastic and now since having a machine with one of these I would never buy one that didn't have one. It is a very easy machine to thread up. It does have alot of extra foot attachments which I have never really used as for what I sew they haven't been necessary and for some that I have tried I did find them too complicated to work out how to use them properly. But that is probably more from my basic sewing knowledge and if I studied it and practiced it more I could probably work it out. There is nothing too fancy about this machine it just does what you want it to, and does it well. It is very reliable sewing machine. Sews well and threads well. Can be complicated with all the different foot attachments.
Excellent – I have had this sewing machine for a few years now and I love it! It has a good range of normal and stretch stitches and all the essnetial feet. I mostly sew clothes and soft toys and quilts (with the addition of a walking foot) and it does everything I need. Easy to use, a good range of stitches and feet. Not too fancy or too expensive. The pedal… Read more
that comes with the sewing machine has two speed settings, normal and slow. You can accidently knock the switch and then the machine grunts and goes very slow. It was only a problem for me because it didn't realise the switch was there.
