Jaybird Freedom

No freedom at all – After losing the charging adapter it was near impossible to get a replacement.. I luckily had a friend who was flying over from the U.S for a holiday to bring me a replacement.. After I finally was able to charge them I have had nothing but issues trying to keep them in my ear, they are horrible to use with exercise. For $150 odd dollars these are a waste of money! Great sound, bad grip – The sound from these headphones is INCREDIBLE, and partnered with the equaliser that comes with the Jaybird app, you can make them sound exactly how you want them - adjust the mids, highs and lows to your liking. I found one big downside to them however - they just would not stay in my ears. I tried all the different ways to wear them, hooking… Read more
over my ears, wearing under, and on a run they just would not stick. And it is very frustrating when you have to keep putting headphones in your ears every 10-20 steps during a run. They sound fantastic, but they do not stay in your ears well at all.
Jaybird Freedom vs Boise – The charging device is not a clever design. It’s a small piece you have to keep up with and they don’t stay charged very long. The same ear piece is alwsys knocked off—which can be VERY annoying if you’re stoked about a run, get there and oops, no cuff to help cushion inside your ear. If you’re dropping money over $100, trust me...take the… Read more
extra step and BUY BOISE! I had Boise...loved them. Just bought Jaybird Freedom...they annoy me.
My next set of earbuds will be completely wireless, avoiding the ear piece mess.
Not Great – While the sound is okay, I've found the build quality of these to be nothing but trouble. I've had them for a little over a year, used a few times a week. Bits fall off with ease, which is manageable, but the killer for me was a week or so ago when they stopped working very suddenly. I wasn't too worried, after all they have a "lifetime warranty… Read more
against sweat damage", and that's all it could be.
Totally not true, they ducked and weaved everywhere to avoid honouring the warranty. Even when I suggested I take them to small claims. Won't even look at them.
They are famous for building earbuds that die from sweat, so they feign a sweat warranty, which they know they can avoid honouring.
I decided to pony up the cash and buy a good set, Bose. Can't believe the difference, in everything. I should have just bought these in the first place. Or alternatively bought a pair of real cheapies that would last as long and sound as good.
I would not recommend anything by this company.
Very useful – Really enjoying the freedom (pun intended) of these earphones! I’m impressed with Jaybird’s efforts to make the user experience a step above the rest. Once connected (to an iPhone) I’ve had no issues with reconnecting, the app allows for customising your sound and the unique range of fins and ear peices allows choice for fit and preference.… Read more
Earphones tend to stay well in my ears and these are quite comfortable.
Battery life is good and also comes with a little clip that doubles use time when the earphones run flat.
I’m not as impressed with the feel of the build compared with other earphones I’ve used but definitely worth the bucks at the current price point (under $100AU).
Overall, great product.
Great running earphones – This is the first time I've bought bluetooth earphones and I am very happy with them. The sound is great, the battery life is impressive and they sit comfortably while I'm running, unlike my wired earphones which make a noise from 'flapping' against my body that is very audible in my ears. If only they knew what customer service is – This review has been pending for a while.. The Freedom product is decent, however they are let down by their customer service - specifically Australian which is non existant. While trying out the buds the first time itself the medium silicon ear buds came apart. The service request once raised was processed by the US team who agreed to dispatch… Read more
replacement. However after realizing that i was in Australia, I was transferred to their Australian support team.
The Aussie teams response was that they do not have the replacement in australia and that if needed it, i had to source it from US myself. They stuck to their response even after pointing out the US teams response or the Australian customer law. Now im using it with the other medium sponge buds and incase something goes wrong with it, the product will end up in garbage.
Also, the charging mechanism is a small seperate piece that can easily be lost. And if it happens, they wont have another piece in Australia.
Save the pain of being hung up to dry and avoid the brand.
One earbud fits better than the one – I received my Jaybird Freedoms a few months ago and only just started using them. They actually fit really well in my ear - perfect size. However, because there is a heavier piece on the right (where it enables you to adjust the sound, pause, skip songs etc.) I find the right ear bud is never as well fitted as the left one. It doesn't fall out… Read more
because of the weight, but it definitely makes using them a bit strange, as one ear is completely sound proofed and well fitted, while the other one is slightly less sound proof and feels a little like it might fall out at any time.
Pros:
- Great sound quality
- Fits well in the ear 80% of the time
- Looks slick and stylish
Cons:
- One side is weighted a lot more than the other
- Charging port has more bits and pieces, which I don't see the point of (means more things to lose)
- Materials are harder (a bit painful against the ear at times)
Overall, it's still quite a good wireless earphone. After switching to these, corded earphones seem unnecessarily troublesome now.
Perfect fit and great sound quality – Love the size of it. Doesn't look like a wireless headphones because of the small size. Fit perfect in my ears with the foams or the silicon pieces, with or without the wings. Just wish the battery life is better. Having another charging dongle is annoying for 2 reasons: (1) It makes the right hand piece heavier and drag the cable to the right… Read more
side (2) Just annoying to always need the dongle to charge the headphones. I charge it almost every day now.
Not suitable for woman – earbud retention aids for the size of womans ears are not suitable and do not work! if you are a female do not buy these! good music quality but more designed for male ears, battery life is ok but charging dock doesnt work well when running rethink this purchase if you are a runner!!!! Great Sound and Durability, Poor Fit! – Headphones are great and perfect for exercising as they are very sweat resistant however the buds are prone to falling out of your ear regadless of what bud you use. This is becuase the batter/remote hangs on one side and is somewhat heavy. Speaking of battery these will last 1.5hrs tops on max charge which is not very long, however fine for my needs! Poor fit, expensive and poor sound – I was recommended these by one of the sales assistants at JB Hi-Fi, TGV Sydney on the basis of sound quality and overall performance during exercise. However, the ear buds kept falling out regardless of the size of the foam bud used, whether placed over or under the ear and regardless of how I positioned the audio cable. It didn't matter if I was… Read more
on the treadmill, elliptical machine, weights bench or on a free fun.
Achieving optimal sound quality required constant changing of the frequency settings on the graphic equaliser app depending on whether electronic or rock music was played. This isn't something you really want to be doing while in the middle of a workout.
After ongoing issues I gave up using this product after six weeks. I subsequently went back to JB Hi-Fi and bought a pair of Jabra SportsCoach ear buds instead. I now have two pairs of these, one for work and one for home workouts. No problems with fitment or sound quality and they were $100 cheaper than the Jaybirds. Bye bye Jaybirdy.
