Jaycar GPS Speedometer Head Up Display LA9036

Decent instructions may have helped! – Had to exchange the 1st HUD. Read 80klms when I was still, kept switching off and was deemed faulty No instructions on installing the screen nor any tips on how to select the correct position. The user manual was basic in such small print it is nearly impossible to read. (Chinglish). Guy at Jaycar was helpful but he too was baffled by the first one I got. The scrolling button is cheap and the unit is hard to position as the button has to be the windscreen side and is hard to get to. The sticky silicon flat holder is useless with a dash mat so it would have to been better sold with Velcro. All in all I wasn’t overly impressed. The shaded hood doesn’t work well on flattish dashes.
Purchased in at Jaycar Electronics for $59.95.
Clumsy design average result – Device always draws power but no simple on/off switch. Only way is to disconnect cord BUT if you move the unit then you cannot easily reposition it as the mounting adhesive is one use only. Screen film for windshield is too small and one use only. If you have two or more drivers (or are having a bad day and slouching) again the display needs to be repositioned to suit but you only get the one shot. The actual controls have been placed against the windscreen side of the device so cannot be easily seen OR ACCESSED while driving.
Overall, a potentially useful device crippled by poor design, the only thing in its favour is the price. I would hesitate to recommend it.
