JBL Pebbles Computer Speakers

great sound from small speakers – The sound from these speakers is way better than you would expect from something that plugs into a PC. They sound better than the small Logitech 2:1 system with external power I used previously, as although there is less bass response the Pebbles have better balance overall. On the first few listens they had a slightly 'processed' sound, but I don't notice that anymore. They can not match a proper stereo system, but I often find myself using them at the computer because they are so convenient and the sound is more than good enough. I expect the only way to get better sound from something that sits on your desk is through good quality headphones.

The USB plug set up is great advantage. They switch on/off when you switch on/off your PC and no mucking around trying to connect (and reconnect) a bluetooth speaker. They also have a stereoscopic effect which most Bluetooth speakers seem to loose by putting bother speakers in the same body.

The only disadvantage is they are hard to buy. Mine came from a lucky 2nd hand sale, but could not find them locally for sale new. The cables could be a bit longer as well.

Who would have thought USB speakers could be this good?! – Let me start by saying I am not an audiophile. However, I wanted something better than my AIO PC speakers could offer. Something a little crisper, clearer and when called for on the odd occasion, louder. I also didn't want something else that needed to be plugged into my already cluttered powerboard. The JBL pebbles tick all those boxes and more. I like the fact that you can lay these on their side or stand them up. I have them laying on their side so that the sound doesn't hit the back of my monitors, which kind of defeats the purpose. On their side the sound reaches me (and the whole room) because it can travel in the free space between the monitor base and where the actual monitor starts. (I hope that makes sense!)

As the previous reviewer mentioned, it’s a simple matter of plug and play. I adjust the volume via my PC, rather than the pebbles, as they are not easily reached behind my monitors. They are tucked out of the way, in an area of what was previously wasted space. A very neat and tidy solution, but when the sound is on, boy I know it!

Purchased from Amazon.com. Even with our dollar being quite low, they only set me back just under $66, including postage and credit card ‘international transaction fee’.

Amazing Audio – USB speakers until now have never been very effective, due in part to the small amount of current available from the computer. So, most computer speaker systems have a power supply that needs to be plugged in to a power board. But, JBL, a speaker system specialist Company, have developed new technology to create their "Pebbles". So, even without a sub woofer, these small speakers deliver balanced rich and open audio with punchy bass, - even at low levels. They are also capable of generating great audio at high levels.

Why these speakers were called "Pebbles" is something only JBL could answer. Their design more suggests sea shells - with outlet ports on the narrow width between the two "faces" of each speaker.

They are truly "plug and play", as once you connect them to a USB port, and the computer automatically download drivers, they are up and away.

One of the Pebbles has a side panel, which is in fact a volume control, and which, when pressed, acts as the ON/OFF switch. This Pebble comes with a cable and auxiliary socket to connect a phone, or other device. And the same Pebble has a blue LED behind the mesh surround, indicating power is on.

Build quality is very good, and solid. However, I should mention however, that on my first pair, the main active Pebble did not produce any audio. The whole set was replaced without problem at Dick Smith.

These speakers do not come cheap, costing $89. Initially you will wonder why desktop speakers could cost so much. But once you experience the audio they produce, you will immediately consider the cost well worth it.

Their unique style, which will enhance the appearance of your computer system. I chose the black Pebbles with bright orange trim, but there are other colors.

The speakers power up when the computer is booted up, and turn off when the computer is powered down. As stated previously, there is an ON/OFF switch. If the speakers are turned off at any time, they will nevertheless power up automatically the net time the computer is booted up.

I award these amazing speakers 5 stars on this site, but no matter on which site you read reviews of Pebbles, you will see they were awarded 5 stars there too.
