[Name Removed] from Jim’s Roofing charged $350 to replace two roof tiles and was on the roof for approximately 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the roof is still leaking, the internal plaster damage has worsened, and despite multiple calls and text messages, there has been no response or follow-up. I’m now having to go through my home insurance due to… Read more

Our experience with Jim's Roofing and the Jim's Group has been absolutely terrible. After first receiving the quote, we received a follow up that they had made an error and the quote increased by more than $10,000. We still decided to go with them, in no small part because of the security of the 'Jim's Guarantee'. The works were due to take… Read more

"about a week" and ended up taking nearly 2 months, during which time we lost access to our parking and driveway, and we were unable to carry out the other renovations, as their edge protection was partially blocking our entry.

The very next day after the works were finished we experienced a roof leak (to the new roof).

When we asked for a compliance certificate the Jim's franchisor advised it wasn't a requirement. We confirmed with the Building and Plumbing Commission that it IS a requirement. We asked about warranties and were sent the Jim's guarantee (the contractor sent us a link to the website).

We had an independent person assess the new roof and they advised of a number of defects, including (but not limited to) incorrect flashing, poorly lapped roof sheets, missing flashings/barges, non-compliant guttering and downpipes, significant rust, and water pooling).

They also broke our tv antenna.

We then came to find out later that the Jim's contractor was unlicensed.

Jim's had another roofer inspect the works and he communicated to them (and us) that the roof needed to be ripped off and done again, it was unsalvageable.

Jim's offered to refund our money and walk away - leaving us with a defective roof and needing to do MORE work than before they started. We declined and asked that they simply abide by the Jim's Guarantee, and make things right.

They had seen the report of the roof and the pictures, and they agreed to replace it in its entirety (as it was pretty clear that it was not fit for purpose), and that it would be done by a licensed plumber this time, and that we would get a compliance certificate within 5 days (as is the requirements under the legislation).

The roof works were completed a month ago and we still don't have a compliance certificate (they couldn't issue as the plumbers' licence is expired). They didn't fix the tv antenna either.

I would strongly urge anyone to look around, and not to consider this company for any works.

In our experience the JIM'S GUARANTEE counts for absolutely nothing.

Worst experience ever. Still not resolved 6 months later. Contacted Jims roofing. They sent us one of their franchisees, who came out and gave us a quote for a full roof restore and full gutter and downpipes replacement. - The worker and his team broke tiles while on the roof and hid them at the gutterline rather than replace them. - Leveled the… Read more

'new' gutters so badly that many sections just held water instead of fall towards the downpipes. - In some locations used wrong color and type (non slotted) gutters. Some were all scratched (and he touch up painted them with the wrong paint) - Extremely poorly connected our downpipes, with one that just fell apart after the first rain (because the gutters also got pulled out of the fascia, because of the lack of level and water weight and as the clips were skrewed in with 1cm length skrews. (more cost cutting?) - Resulted in masses of water going under the house damaging our foundations. -Damaged roof while on it, with water now leaking into the eaves. - Glued together broken tiles with repointing material rather than replace tiles for the "Full roof restore"

... A million other details of how bad the work was too, but I'll spare.

We then started asking about their license... That of course Jims group assures all their franchisees are.

- He did not have the any plumbing qualifications for the plumbing works he undertook. - He was not VBA registered or licensed as required for a job of this cost. - Took a 40% deposit for a ~$14,000 job. contravention with the domestic-building-contracts-act-1995 - Has gone bankrupt and not supplying insurance details.

Over the 6 months, this has been told to the area managers, their phone support and Jim himself.

No real care was given and no accountability was taken (either ignored, or lied to being told"He wouldn't be a franchisee if he wasn't licensed)

An "audit" was conducted by another of their roofers they sent out (that took months to get them to do). They did a report confirming none of it was up to scratch. They gave a quote for them to fix it... This cost MORE than the original work. Easy way to drum up more business for yourself? This person quoting to do the work was also not VBA registered.

Eventually got in contact with Jim - who I experienced to be rude and dismissive. (and again, unbothered by knowledge his franchisees were working illegally" --- We were inquiring about getting their insurance details (with the roofer now bankrupt) and to contact their legal dept. wrt their unlicensed workers.

He proclaimed "Our people have made multiple attempts to fix your issues, including arranging a third party inspection to see what needs to be done. Their suggestions are more than fair, and I do not intend to get involved.

you can't make an insurance claim for a problem we're trying to fix. If you want to go legal, you'll need to get your solicitor involved."

The last contact the area managers had with me was over 90 days ago saying they'd get back to me after talking to their legal dept. They're absolutely not attempting to fix anything and have only provided a 'solution' of enter another contract and pay more to Jims to get another of their workers to maybe fix the problems caused by the first... As if your business would ever see a cent from me again.

One star is still too much. AVOID Jim's Roofing Carnegie!!!! Been dealt with Jim's franchised business a few times now and this was the worst. *He asked for very high deposit 35% *We paid the deposit before Christmas, however start date been kept pushing back, to the end of Feb for various reasons, car broken down, surgery, too hot, too… Read more

windy, emergency, etc etc or even not came for no reasons. * Promised to come but never tuned up. We adjusted our work to meet him so many times but he just didn't come. Chased him up and he just said in an hour, however still not come. *He did come until we told him to refund. He came in late on that day, just quickly did pressure washing within 1 hr. Then rushed off for school pick up. *Chased him again, just did half of roof tile repointing (took 2 hrs) *We keep on chasing, he finally did roof painting, then he later blamed us for forcing him to work on a 30 degree day. *Asked us to pay another $2000 so that he can fix his van, ridiculous. *Asked us again to pay $2000 for him to pay his roof plumber, we said no way. *Most shocking: We just did roof painting so far and we had enough with all the delays and issues. When we told him to cancel all the rest of jobs (guttering and eve fixing), he said he just ordered the material and asked us to pay him back. Then he blamed me for cancelling last minute. He then sent us a QUOTE and ask us to pay. Excuse me???? He was so stupid that he just sent the quote with all the information. And we can see the quote was not even under his name!!!. Double checked with the supplier, that it was not paid. Totally a SCAM!!! *Very poor workmanship, cement was simply flopped on when doing roof tile repointing. Many cracks on the ridge not fixed, broken tiles not replaced. Everything been done in such a rough way. Asked him to rectify however he insisted us to pay him in full first. * He put his paint, spray machine and other stuff at our place. Said will pick them up but still not come on that day. He warned me if his stuff are missing, I have full responsibility. Nasty person. * He left his rubbish intentionally in our front yard when he finally came in to pick up his stuff.

I will make complaint to Jim's due to how terrible our experience with him.

I promise these are all true. Sounds ridiculous but these are all what happened to us.

I contacted them for roof repairs and they got me one of their subcontractor. Later on, they asked me to provide a report from a licensed roofing inspector… Read more

for the $1000.00 warranty claim. The contractor received cash, and I have camera footage of that, but despite that, they asked me to provide a photo of the bank transfer to him. At the end of the above two conditions, the third condition required me to prove that the damage occurred due to the performance of their subcontractor. They confirmed that they do not verify their contractors' credentials and blame customers for their choices. They said their contractor had five-star ratings and glowing reviews, but I could not rate his performance because the IT department handled it. I told them the business does not exist on the internet, and the manager replied that she could access it with a special password. For any reason, the conduct was apparently deplorable, but I can review that behaviour to help customers to stop.

False security. Gift of the gab initially – Started off sounding good but turned into a disaster. Re-screwed the entire roof, new flashing, new solar arks, trimmed the capping and gave a 10 year warranty. Next rain, leaked damaging the ceilings. Didn’t take responsibility, added silicon and doesn’t want to pay for ceilings. Refusing to communicate now. Doesn’t want to use his insurance.

Prompt callback, assessment and quoting. Erol arrived on time and was thorough with his check and explanation. On the day he worked in a timely manner with minimal disruption. His attention to detail and workmanship was excellent and sent me photos of final product. Cleaned up and gave me the tiles left over. Highly recommend.

Rang Jim's after getting a very expensive quote from another company. Salim was prompt, friendly and helpful. I got a written quote the same day as the inspection with a much more realistic price. Salim worked around my availability and completed the work the next week. I am very happy with the quality of the job done. He did a good job cleaning up when he was finished.

An absolute disaster start to finish, and don’t depend on the ‘Jim’s Guarantee’. Our roof replacement has been an unmitigated disaster from start to finish. And the protection of the ‘Jim’s Guarantee’ in our experience, is completely non-existent. After taking three months to complete a “one week” job, we have been left with a non-compliant,… Read more

leaking roof that needs replacing AGAIN.

We raised a complaint with Jim’s after the works were finished as the works looked shoddy and there were already leaks.

Despite being escalate to the CEO (Jim Penman himself), Jim’s refused to comply with any of the steps outlined in the ‘Jim’s Guarantee’ and despite being told by their own assessor that the’ new’ roof needed replacing (we were sent a copy of the email) they have refused to act or engage with us about it. The assessor described our roof as “the worst I’ve ever seen”

There are bent and not properly secured down pipes, non compliant flashing/barges (one is missing at the back of the building too), the roof is leaking, they broke the tv antenna, the new gutters are holding water, it is unclear if they put in any sisalation, the list goes on. All of this was identified by the assessor sent out by Jims, and they have known about it for weeks. In that time we have had a lot of rain, and are incurring further damage. Jim’s do not seem to care at all that people live there and are dealing with roof leaks as a result of their works.

We are out tens of thousand of dollars and Jims have been evasive, refusing to take responsibility and not meeting any of their obligations laid out in the Jims Guarantee.

The guarantee was the reason we selected Jims over the other contractors, but it appears to be worth nothing. We are now being stonewalled and forced to take legal action.

I would suggest avoiding Jims Roofing (or any other Jims franchise) at all costs.

Really nice guy, but the worksmanship was terrible. Rough and sloppy cement work across the top of the roof. Overspray of paint all over our bricks and guttering. Contacted head office but they said the issues were between the franchisor and I. $6000 for the job (agreed to pay $5.5k in the end), wish we’d just left the roof how it was. Will need to get other trades to come back and do a proper job.

Overpriced and underdelivered – Got [Name Removed] from the NSW Ryde area to fix the leaking issue on our roof. Every time he promised the next solution will fix the issue. Kept paying more for his multiple visits. Nothing has been fixed, still leaking after spending thousands of dollars on it. And he stops responding. What a rip off!

Avoid these opportunistic scammers! – Called Jim's Roofing to quote for fix a leaking bay window roof. I prepaid the obligatory $141.90 call out fee. quoted me $6,400 (!!!) for a new colorbond bay window roof with gutter and downpipe, which is absurd as the materials couldn't be more than $400 and it's a day's work. I stated it was far too high. He then quoted $3,500 for same thing with no gutter or downpipe. I also wanted a quote for him to simply nail a tarp up there as a temporary fix until the full replacement could be done. He then took an extraordinary amount of time again pretending to talk to someone in the "office" before telling me it would be $1,039 to simply nail a tarp up there. At this point I just wanted him to leave because it was clear this was a scam. There was a rocket on top of his van so that should have been a red flag... He said he would send the quotes through to me. He never did. They were clearly "trying this on" to see if a woman on her own would be desperate enough to pay extortionate prices for a leaking roof. Don't fall for their scam. I believe they may sometimes do reasonably priced repairs when they know they wouldn't get away with ridiculous prices but if it's a woman or elderly person on their own they just try their luck with crazy quotes. They should be reported to the ACCC.
