Retired Diedrie JDeere D105 at the young age of 49hrs work under her belt – I purchased my D105 in 2017 brand new, it's done 40hrs work and died, it's been sitting in shed ever since, I couldn't possibly afford another one so been pushing a non self propelled mower around past 7 years. Now Im starting up my own gardening business " KL-WEST GARDEN SERVICES" I thought I'd bring her out and see what I can do to fix her ( I… Read more

call her Deidre)., she's had solonoid replaced, battery replaced and sent her off for full service after giving up on her, her Top speed is less than snails pace, recommendations please on upgrading

Piece of crap mower – My mower broke down with the transmission gears stripped after 40 hours. The gears are cheap Chinese plastic. DON'T BUY JOHN DEERE!!!!! Show details

Poor Design on drive Pulley Very Poorly built. John Deere does not stand behind their product – Drive Pulley blew up after 160 hours on mower. John Deere paid for pulley. I got stuck with labor Bill! This was a recall, and John Deere put same pulley design back on my mower! After 100 hours, the drive pulley is out AGAIN, and John Deere refused to do anything about their poor design! So They must view it as you have to replace drive pulley every 100 hours! Very poor, quality, and design! They DO NOT back their product! Buyer beware! Show details

Disappointed - too many fragile plastic parts – I thought buying a John Deere was like buying the Rolls Royce of rideons - wrong. It performs adequately but far too many plastic parts that should be steel or at least alloy. Brackets that hold the deck in position are plastic, and so are parts of the transmission which failed at 170 hours and cost $519 to repair. Very disappointed and would never buy or recommend John Deere. Show details

Terrible Product – The transmission is shot with under 250 hours. Uneven side-to-side cutting with a level deck. I spoke with customer service re the transmission and the first rep I spoke with said there was nothing she could do and that no further action would be taken as it was out of warranty. I asked if I could speak with a supervisor-none available-so I asked… Read more

for a return call and the rep said that a supervisor may or may not call. No call so far. Terrible product and terrible customer service. My last John Deere.

The worst lawn tractor I've ever owned – The D105 looks nice and drives fairly well, but has been horribly maintenance needy. The cut is also very uneven, side-to-side, though the deck is level. The tractor has 250 hours, and I'm now replacing my 2d head gasket. I also had to repair the variable speed pulley (requiring removal of the transmission for the replacement of essentially a… Read more

retaining pin), and now have to go through the utter PITA of replacing the transmission drive belt. One of the most irritating aspects of the mower is it's non-maintenance-friendly design (like that of a modern car--so perhaps not a fair gripe). I've owned & repaired my own mowers for 40 years, and would NEVER buy another small John Deere.

This is another John Deere quality mower – This mower is a quality product not had an issue as I would expect from John Deere. It’s a good looking piece of kit that will not disappoint, 42ins cut, easy key start, runs perfect with auto gearbox. It’s a good size for the large garden or paddock. It has 2 years manufacturers warranty that’s not been needed. This is my 3 John Deere mower and will last for years if looked after. Show details

Not the mower for any kind of hills – I am a little disappointed in John Deere for putting their name on this thing. I bought it new four years ago at Home Depot. Did it’s job well other than a slightly uneven cut until last fall. Last fall it started to slow down and had trouble going up a four foot hill at a 45 degree incline. Fast forward to this spring. Pulled it out and… Read more

started just fine, but moved very slow in forward and reverse. Contacted a local shop and was told, after the normal line of questioning, that it sounds like the “plastic” transmission had gone out. Repair cost almost $800 in parts alone. Not worth it for a $1400 tractor. Reason for damage is this tractor is meant foe up to an acre of FLAT yard. Guess I should have ponied up another $600 and bought the Cub Cadet....

Rubbish Model - regret buying it – The D105 compared to the previous model D111 is absolute rubbish. I have 2 acres of gently undulating grassland yet this machine has difficulty getting up the shallowest slopes. I have had to call out Chesterfields twice in the last 4 months to remove small pieces of twigs jammed in the gear lever slot which is really inaccessible without the… Read more

right tools and equipment. Been charged twice now for a design fault!! No joy from Chesterfields they say it is not really their problem as they cannot change John Deere's design to stop this gear box jamming from frequently happening. And why take away cruise control and simple one foot gear change? Worst buy of my long life (I am 74 years of age) will not be using either John Deere or Chesterfields ever again.

Extremely poor quality – Purchased this mower brand new from a John Deere dealer late in November 2015, my first John Deere product. Approximately 52 hours later it blew the sealed transmission unit, 52 HOURS!!!.It's services were always maintained. It blew the transmission late in 2018, yes I know out of warranty and at least three years past the purchase date but 52… Read more

hours over three years is not even 18 hours a year. Naturally there was a recall on this model but mine was not part of the recall (surprise, surprise) So $760 dollars later I now have a working mower again. The dealer advised that John Deere Australia would offer no assistance in repairing there faulty product and they would offer nothing as it's out of warranty, clearly it wasn't fit to be sold in the first place. At no time did the dealer ever say that the transmissions in this model are plastic made to look like metal I would never have purchased this model if I had known, I would have purchased the next model up with a metal/alloy transmission. Don't buy from John Deere, I will never again, if you like paying to fix their faulty products keep buying.

John Deere no longer stands for quility – no way to tighten a loose belt. Brought tractor in 2017 and Transmission won't shift into reverse Called dealer told me 500 dollars for the part plus labor cost. Transmission is made of plastic dealer said it was not worth the cost to replace. Better to buy a new tractor John Deere once stood for quality. Will never buy their product again Show details

3 years 1 breakdown – Been surprising happy with this tractor have owned 2 other brands and in 3 years the John Deere D105 has lasted the longest. Mow 1.5 acrr yard once a week only skipping Nov to Feb and it starts up and goes. Have only replaced the battery and starter failed this year but it has plastic parts and only cost $80 to get back online. To top it off have… Read more

only did one maintenance and that was after 3 years never changed our or anything so to be honest have t treated it well. Now after maintenance it runs like new and this year will disconnect the battery and we shouldn't drain it in 2 years like before. So overall great lawnmower takes a beating and keeps cutting

A Lemon! – I wanted to put zero stars. I have 5 flat, easy to mow acres which is all grass and no rocks, I have had 5 John Deeres in the past which have been good for the price but the D105 has been a lemon from day one with wheel caps and bits of trim falling off. The Gear box blew up twice with the first time being after only 90 minutes on the clock. Both… Read more

times the new John Deere dealer " Vanderfield " at Gympie QLD has automatically blamed me before they even looked at the mower and tried to charge me for warranty work. It seems like every time I try to use it I have a new problem and this will be the last time I buy a John Deere or go anywhere that dealer.

Never had a problem – Had our John Deere for 3 years. Works like a dream. Changed the blades a few times of course and services done. Great mower and a good price. Brought it direct from the John Deere shop with was good because they do finance there if you need it. Highly recommend.  Show details

Not a bad mower, but still pretty big for a small mower in this range – I am not overlly excited about the John Deere D105 and not sure I will get the 15 years out of it that I got with My Cox stockman. At 2 months old snapped a belt out of the blue, at a cost of $160 to replace but the service was good from the dealer. AT a price of $3200, I think they are probably the best out there for the price. It gets around… Read more

our 2 acres pretty good and has cut mowing time in half due to the larger cutting deck. It gets up our 2 hills pretty good with plenty of grunt. My next mower will probably be a different brand (maybe try a greenfield) as not 100% loving it. It can be hard to get around smaller areas due to its size and I wish I would of purchased the model that has the pedal that allows you to go back rather than stopping to move a lever to go backwards. As I can be a bit hard at remembering things, the starting process requires a look at the manual if I havent used it in a while.

Garbage – The D105 John Deere mower is the biggest piece of garbage I've ever purchased. Uneven cuts, blades become unbalanced, high replacement parts and maintenance costs. Only 60 hours on the mower and it went up. Local JD dealer wouldn't back their product. I'll never do business with John Deere again.  Show details

At last! – We have a small farm and lawn coming out of our ears including an orchard! This unit is a god sent and has so far been reliable, although we are only 10 hours in. Handles well, simple to use, economic. Doesn't do hills in long grass well at all - wheels spin or come off ground so has limitations on terrain but a workhorse for simple jobs. Recommended!  Show details

Why oh why did they change this to 'auto' transmision!!!!!! – I have owned four D105s in succession. Loved all of them until the lastest which they have changed from a manual transmission (select your gear and off you go - no accelerator required) to auto transmission (put your foot on the accelerator harder or softer to select speed). I have a large area to mow 2-3 hours worth each time and I rarely… Read more

changed gears so I would just select the gear and off I would go for hours. Now I have to push my foot down hard on a sticky accelerator the whole time!!!! After 20 minutes my back was ACHING. What a terrible idea. I am going to have to get rid of the bloody thing and find some other brand to buy. This is crap.

Won't start first time every time – Mower deck is flimsy and I have rebuilt it 4 times. It will not start unless you have jumper leads on and have put a bigger battery in it than the original (biggest that would fit in the compartment ). The paint has all flaked off the foot stand area and mower deck.
