Bigdog's Update @ 300hrs – Machine still original except deck belts (4) and consumables. All running well, despite some heavy hitting work. Welded-in deck drive belt pulley adjusting mechanism, a major change over earlier L series, a bad problem. JD should revert to bolted so the pulley can be moved as belt ages. One lost plastic headlight cover, plastics in engine cowl not… Read more ·  1

strong enough. Transmission oil original, but trans still holding up. I expect trouble though if not changed soon, however I can achieve that, given non-serviceable design. Again, just a drain plug from JD on these lower end models, would be a massive help. One spindle bearing given notice now.

Designed to fail – I've owned the mower for a little over 3 years. It's currently at 124 hrs. Always serviced by a JD dealer. To date I've had countless spindle failures. Don't be fooled by the grease nipples, they do little to grease the totally sealed spindle bearings. The deck is too thin to support the spindles and it'll tear the deck. There are of course… Read more

patch up rings to fix or prevent this, sold at a cost of course. The deck constantly goes out of adjustment, on my 4th belt, the front pulley is a fire risk as it seems to collect dry grass and when the blades are disengaged, the belt continues to lightly spin against the pulley creating heat and friction. Basically I've given up on this mower as a bad $4000 joke.

Transmission designed to fail – Had for 3 years done 220hrs Transmission stuffed , won’t push through thick buffalo grass Researched and is common fault with K46 tuff torq trans Trans none serviceable and a company is making a living selling upgraded trans kits to replace these trans for half price of new mower, disgraceful they can sell mowers with that trans as its so prone to failure after warranty period  Show details

Not so perfect mower – I bought the d125 mower two years ago, the first week I had it, it would not crank. So john deere picked it up and said it was too much paint around the ground lug common problem so they removed the paint, after that no problems cranking. About 6 months the blade belt come off, and come off several times after that, finally it broke. Put a new one… Read more

on it stayed on for about 9 months then it come off so I put it back on. A month later the transmission belt come off so I put it back on. The next day after spending an hour or more fixing the transmission belt I was finishing up mowing the grass and the engine clanked, it stopped running and would not crank. I got off opened up engine compartment and it had slung a rod through the block. Two year old mower.

From Husqvarna to Deere and absolutely no regrets – Bought this model for comfort, seat is great & extra power. Not a problem, starts first time and never lets us down. Has already had initial service with Deere Dealer. Might add servicing cost is far cheaper than the Husqvarna. Looked at Husqvarna TS242-decided against and am very happy with the Deere mower purchased.  Show details

Excellent mower so far – No problems in the 8 months we've had it. I got upsold from the D110 which I'm happy about now, the seat is extremely comfy to sit in and the engine has heaps of power. Its easy to operate and cuts well. The only bad things I could say would be cost of the catcher, $500 and it blocks up if the grass is damp but I think this is common with all side… Read more

discharge catchers. It can also be a bit jerky when operating the reverse foot pedal. Fairly minor issues with an otherwise great machine. Headphones in, beer in hand, mow on...

Update... it needs a horn so I can summon a minion to get me another beer!!

Another update... Have had no issues with this machine at all since new, hasn't missed a beat. When I bought it I paid an extra $500 for the catcher assembly. if the grass is damp or a bit long forget about it, the chute from the deck clogs up at the bottom bend and all the clippings just go on the grass. Works good when the grass is short and bone dry.
