Best value for money – Hi there, I Bought JVC 55" CURVED SMART UHD LED (4K), LT-55N776A in early 2018 and it has been working great since then. Best value for money TV. Having it for near 3 years still very happy with the product. Show details
2 Weeks and it blew up, No after-sales support, Refunded! – ***Update*** The TV is now playing up and I have had many issues with it since day 1 with it freezing and so forth. I have not added any apps to the TV and I have only ever used one HDMI port. This has been an issue for a while. HDMI port 2 works when it wants to, the screen goes white and the only way to fix it is unplugged it and then plug it… Read more
back in. I do this about every second day. I have called the in-home warranty people and they don't answer their phone. Anything that Yale-Prima service, Like JVC needs to be avoided! IF you google you will see that the ACCC has taken Yale -prima to court before as they were not honouring warranty claims! Now I'm on hold to Bigw to try and sort it out
***original review*** First off, Pricepoint on this is not too bad. I paid $499 for mine from BigW. Second, It's important to note that JVC is no longer JVC of the past. JVC (Japanese Victor Company) used to be a premium brand now they are just a name for rent. So, the JVC you buy today is not the JCV you had 5-10 years ago. Just check the back of the TV and look to see if it has "Japanese Victor Company" printed on the product label. This is also evidenced by the warranty company Prima who is known for importing no brand models and stamping a label on them.
So, the TV it's self? It's not too bad and thinking about it, for the price, I have seen a lot worse! Anyone know the brand Seiki, yup, much worse! The picture colour is not all that vibrant and yes, I have played with the settings many times. I'm assuming I'm going to be blasted for this review by a particular reviewer so need to cover the fact that I have worked in retail selling Tvs and other Audiovisual equipment. I also am quite knowledgeable with electronic repairs, programming and coding so I'm sure I can set up a very basic TV!
So yes, Picture is not that great but we have to remember that it's a very cheap TV for the size and features. I have got my Xbox one X set up to the TV and it does actually do ok other than the kinda washed out colour, there is a bit of motion blur but I have had to deal with Seaki for a week before that went back to the store so to me its nothing.
The built-in soundbar! Honestly, at what's claimed to be 20W its really quite a laugh, however, It's not that bad. Like, the models without the soundbars are absolutely gross and I would not even use the built-in speakers however, this one is not too bad. There is a hollow bass and it basically is a tube with a cheap set of speakers and shockingly a set of tweeters too but this has really done nothing for the quality. It basically sounds like some low-quality speakers put into some PVC piping and that’s about it, example, My Sony from 2011 which has non-branded audio sounds a lot better.
Now, for the question as to its “smart TV” claims. I guess technically speaking it’s a smart TV but for me, this Tv is about as smart as a Nokia 3310. So, yes this TV has built-in apps like Netflix, youtube and so forth but you can not download anything more than some Russian TV thing and that’s about it. There is no app store, you can not get stan or anything like that. I actually question if this is an android TV at all as I have no option to download apps. Netflix works well however and I am yet to experience any issues there.
The TV boots up really quickly, There are 3 HDMI ports and some other stuff no one will use anymore. There is a 3.5 headphone jack which is kinda not needed and would be better if it was just an plain audio out jack. Why? Well, when I plug in my Technics HiFi system the inbuilt audio of the TV is muted. For me to use just the TV speakers I have to unplug the HiFi than when I want to listen to youtube music, I have to pug it in again. So I guess that there lets you know how bad the so-called Sound Bar really is hey! My Sony smart TV has a 3.5 jack but you can go into its built-in smart TV and choose if you want to have it as a headphone jack or a line out, If you want to use the remote to control the volume or have it at a fixed level and if you want the audio to come out of the jack, the speakers or both. This is an older Sony TV that doest have built-in WiFi or Facebook or even youtube. It basically has a few things like ABC on-demand and that’s it, however, the functions it has trumped this which leads to my final thought in regards to the reviewer who thinks “it’s discontinued and so you cant get apps for it”. When did Windows7 come out? Yep, I think it was July 2009, I remember cause it was my birthday! When did support end? January 2020! So claiming that this TV which is still being sold brand new should still have full support and updates! That’s what makes it a smart TV, the fact that you can install, you can update and so forth. Saying that they don't make that model so it should be chucked out is why apple has been fined just recently. By that logic, one the newer model of a Camry comes out, Toyota should stop servicing the pervious model even if it was only 3 months old when an issue arises!
Look, For $499, It is what it is and it’s still better then Seiki and any Blaupunkt TV’s we get in Australia. I say Blaupunkt in Australia as the ones we get are not real Blaupunkt products but Ayonz have a licence to use the trademark and put it on any TV they can sauce. You can learn a lot bu looking up a brand online, googling who there after-sales support team are and so forth.
When the manufacturer confirms its smart TV is not smart at all – Before you consider buying this TV please read this review for your own good. This TV is a current model, still being sold at the moment. We just purchased it and initially were pretty happy with it. The picture is OK, sound not so great even with the hyped "soundbar" What was really annoying is the fact that many apps didn't work because of the… Read more
very outdated Android 7 the TV is running. I searched the internet for days to find a software or firmware update without any luck so i decided to contact the manufacturer for help.
The response i believe is a bad joke. I asked if there are any firmware updates available for the TV since the smart TV part of it is useless because of the play store blocking most installation to the outdated Android OS. The response was
"Hello, the android version cannot be updated past the preinstalled version.
You can run other apps via an external device such as a Google Chromecast, Apple TV or gaming system connected to the HDMI port on the TV."
With other words or simply said, you have paid for a smart TV but if you want to use our smart TV as a smart TV you need to buy an additional device such as Google Chromecast, Apple TV or similar...?????
WHAT? What for do i need a smart TV in the first place then? I can do the same with a nearly 20 years old plasma, a computer monitor or anything else that has a display and an HDMI input.
I think it is extremely misleading to sell a smart TV with the knowledge that it is not fit for its purpose to be a smart TV.
Brand new and defective – Purchased on December 26 2018. Smart TV does not work. Goes for a while then makes a noise and locks up. I had to hook up my laptop and watch netflix via a HDMI connection. TV Picture quality is poor in my opinion. My old regular TV has a better pic. HDMI picture was ok. Very noticeable improvement. Returned the unit to the place of purchase on… Read more
January 5, 2019. Big W at Singleton. Recieved a full refund. Thank you Big W. Sorry I cant offer JVC the same.
Absolutely Stunning TV – EDIT: Please do not keep asking about apps and firmware issues. Android has long gone the way with I.O.S(Apple Inc) with making products redundant by way of no longer supported firmware. Just like the original iPad and 5.0 droid firmware, devices still do their primary purpose. This is a T.V and will always be a TV that you can Internet with.… Read more
People buy devices like these with very little basic understanding, then complain "defective" because they install and uninstall apps in a T.V. This T.V was discontinued when I brought it. I knew this, but I also knew that it's rapidly becoming antiquated firmware would make no difference to the T.V's paramount function. Here is a pdf manual for people. https://jvctv.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IM_LT-55N775A_OLN11111_v0.03_gr121018.pdf

I am stunned by this JVC TV for many reasons. I actually attempted to buy another branded TV late last year. My experience with an on line only retailer (rhymns with Bogan) became a living hell when I received not only a defective TV, but had to deal with a company whose reputation now is woeful right across the board. Anyway, I had never watched a JVC TV before. I had a relative that had one and it was only after spending time watching her JVC big screen, I realized JVC had something that seems rare in TV's these days. That is, a very good Standard DEF. Hi DEF seems to be pretty much the same with every other TV brand.
After my living hell (getting a refund within 14 days of returning a rubbish TV) during January ended, I started looking around for a JVC. I actually found mine online at Big W. The price was amazingly cheap considering a built in soundbar for a TV of such size and inclusions (Smart TV, UHD 4K PVR etc etc etc). I couldn't get the TV online and had to chase it down to a specific Big W. I was lucky enough to get the last 1 in stock.
I've had the TV 2 days and am really impressed with the JVC brand. Let me say this, even before I was sucked into the Kogan vortex, I looked at many TV's and made my initial decision based on my old TV. THAT was a mistake and not doing on line research was another.
I've still yet to really pplay around with my JVC, but I've already noticed it is really user friendly because the remote isn't one of those that has to be "paired". I have found the Smart TV's with a "paired" remote ALWAYS have to be exited from Smart mode to get the full screen picture. Not my JVC, I turn it on, it boots and is immediately in TV mode.
I am still in disbelief at what I ended up getting is better than I could have imagined.
