Waste of money, time and energy – Unpacked this brand new Kenwood Multi SC590 steamer, admittedly it had been in the box unopened for a couple of years, but still anticipated it would work. The unit was hot, but no steam came out. on releasing the cap, heaps of steam came out! But I couldn't get it to come out the nozzle, or the foot. Show details

simply not worth the effort – To initiate the steam by pressing the button it is very hard to the point of being painfull. Thought I was doing something wrong but I can fix and work most things out, worked out that the button was just to hard. This product is #1 not worth the money and #2 a waste of time. I needed steam to clean filters over my cook top as they get covered in… Read more

fat and residue it couldn't even remove that. Tried bathroom tiles to much effort easier to use scouring pad and a cleaning product. Steamer runs out of steam quite quickly

Terrible 1star is over rating this product – I bought this device recently and it got hot but no steam produced at all. So I took it back to the store who gave me another device thinking that the first may have been faulty. So I put the next one to work with the exact same result. It got hot but no steam no matter how long I waited. This unit will go back to the store on Monday

Glad I read reviews after purchase – I experience similar poor performance/no steam in the first 20 mins, rather then returning it I looked at the few good reviews to see if I was doing it wrong.. I was. Pressed the trigger down hard there was water, maybe too much. So i directed the nozzle into sink and pressed trigger let out water for about 30sec- 1mins until it was just steam.… Read more

A great multi purpose steam cleaner! – Ok, so I read all these horrible reviews on this site and was scared to even open the box! I bought the steam cleaner mainly to tackle some tile grout. Hubby and I pulled it out of the box, filled with water, turned on, waited 5 mins, I press the button and... Nothing! I said to him that everyone was right, waste of money, blah blah blah and then… Read more

HE pressed the button, just a tad harder, and pronto! Yep, it does steam after 5 minutes, you just have to press the button harder than to the point where you think it can't go any further! :) To those who waited for hours or went through 3-4 'not working' machines, I guarantee they just didn't press the button hard enough, as I never would have attempted to press it that hard myself!

So once we figured that, I went ahead and cleaned all the grout, it was fantastic! Then I used the upholstery attachment to clean both sides of the glass on the oven door - worked wonders! Ok, so it spills some water if you stop it and restart, but where do you expect the condensation to go?? Think outside the box - i just held it above the bathroom drain hole, or over tge sink's drain hole on start up until it stopped dripping (and it really isn't that much!!) and then moved onto cleaning the grout/tiles/whatever needed cleaning. The thumb is ok when using the short attachments.

Now, I also tried the mop attachment. Works great, but here the thumb complaints are justified! Because it's a longer and heavier attachment, I cannot imagine being able to clean more than a room at a time! It's easy enough to manouver under beds and even under my kids' robe, it's the aching thumbs and wrists that make it hard, not the machine's attachment. Note I didn't use the full length, only half length of the mop.

Overall, it's a good product, I think the above comments were sparked by users' errors of not pressing the button in fully and buying a multi steam cleaner when they were after a steam mop. This machine is great for a multi purpose cleaner, you can clean your tiles/grout/upholstery/windows. Things you don't clean every day. You can thoroughly clean your floors every so often, too. But don't expect to buy this as your steam mop to use daily, as that is not what it was designed for. Multi purpose, small and light, long enough cord and a long, very flexible pipe. Not designed as a steam mop, great for all other jobs and occassional floor cleans, but yes- your thumbs/wrists will hurt when using the mop attachment!

Good – a good and handy appliance for household use (not industrial usage). i am glad i bought it. i recommend it. small easy to carry on shoulder light many accesories good design low steam pressure when the long pipes are used. if you stop using it for 2-3 minutes, after restarting work a lot of water comes out instead of steam. low capasity of tank.

Buy a scrubbing brush instead – What a waste of money! The machine works ok but generates almost no steam. Could not even clean small soap buildup between tiles. Tried all ways, let the first moisture go, etc. but useless. It runs out of steam very quickly, and then takes 20 mins to refill tank. Says do not overfill the tank but there is no way no check this. Typical mass produced junk from overseas!

Terrible – After waiting approx. 49 mins. For it steam up I then find out the button you have to hold down needed two hands and a few minutes of that was more than enough.I Then went online and read all the dismal reports. We took it back the next day. The store people credited it straight away, almost as if they expected us!!

Thrown it away – The button to make it create steam has to be held down continuosly, I could hardly press it down at all, it is very stiff. Impractical to use. Very disappointing – Apart from the operational difficulties in trying to get it going, its runs out of water (steam!), very fast, and to have to wait 20 or 30 minutes to refill, to allow it to cold worn, is ridiculous. In short, you cannot use it very long, but it is a long wait to refill to use again. Why did the creator of this unusable gadget provide for a valve to decompress so as to at least allow a fast refill.

Waste of money! – I was very excited to take delivery of this steam cleaner as I have tiled floors, plus they are a terrific way to clean bathrooms without chemicals. Not working and parts missing – Bought this steamer for $167.00 yesterday and was looking forward to doing a big clean but couldn't even get started. Waste of money! – Purchased this product from Good Guys with rave reviews from the sales assistant!! Agree with other posts...finger gets tired after pushing the switch continuously, steam does not last that long or work that well and then you have to wait for the thing to heat up again, waste of $150.

This product is garbage – Bought this steam cleaner from Betta Electrical North Rockhampton QLD. to find that it is a very poor product. Buy it if your hand is strong enough! – It started making steam after 5min. But to keep using this product you need to push the switch continously and you will get tired after a while. So far it works properly and I wish I had more mop pads as it is not wide enough and gets dirty so fast. Multi-Functional The switch on the handle is not well-designed.

Not worth the money – Recently purchase this piece of poor quality and time consuming product that will now sit in the garage and collect dust the glass cleaning utensil left streaks , spent 30 minutes on the glass shower screen still no difference. Would rather use the old fashion method to clean tiles , grout elbow grease, my hands ached whilst using it because the trigger is to hard to handle not happy jan Hard to control making hard or thumb sore

A good multipurpose cleaner with one drawback – This was bought as a gift and had I looked at reviews first I would not have purchased it. Why they didn't change it after testing, I'll never know.… Read more

Works well for windows, bathroooms etc – I don't think its as bad as made out, although mine hasn't been faulty (touch wood). that button down the whole time is painful. It works great for the time you can hold it on but really needs a switch on/off button rather than one you need to hold the whole time. I bought it for my wooden floor and it works well until the mop gets too wet then streaks like every other mop I've tried. Will keep experimenting with different cloths as it is easier on my back than other floor mops and buckets. Ease of floor cleaning, excellent for getting into grout and awkward corners Too hard on hands, holding the button down all the time

Dissapointed – This product cost me $178.00. I have been wanting a mulitpurpose steam cleaner for years. My family all gave me money to purchase this for my birthday and I feel ripped off. Kenwood SC590 – What a waste of money. Ive been waiting 90 minutes, and still nothing. How long do you wait before you give up. The disappointing part of this purchase is I was reccommended this product by the staff at Retra Vision, and advised what a good product it is. Review for kenwood multi steamer – I used mine for the first time today. I was a bit frustrated at first as the instructions say 5 minutes for use, but it took 35 minutes, but the next top up with water I put in boiling water from the kettle and it only takes 5 minutes for usage. Overall its an ok machine for the price of $150. As for the people who complained about the trigger button hurting their thumb(pathetic complaint),toughen up or go buy a $500 plus steamer. Good price

Wish I never wasted the money! – Don't waste your money buying this mop. Previously had a Kenwood upright mop but after if died after a good innings thought I would buy this one with the extra attachments. than going directly on the floor so I really question how much it really even cleans the floor. Doesn't clean floor properly, kids play with crayons and when they drop them it marks the floor...this thing unlike the other steam mop will not even melt the waxy crayon enough to remove it.

It is not user friendly, you have to hold the button in to release any steam...may be fine if you have a small unit and limited tiles or flooring to clean...not the case here.

Customer service at Kenwood was horrible, Called to ask a couple of questions and got a "it really isn't that difficult, you turn the machine on, it lets out steam and you go", obviously you don't know your products.

I curse whenever I need to use the thing! Compact

OK – Is great as a general steam cleaner for bathrooms, tile grout. But is hard to use as a floor mopper. Lots of steam. cleaner for large tiled areas. Found it impossible to use for more than a couple of minutes as you need to hold the "on" switch down with your thumb to get any steam. Really disappointing machine – Previously owned a stema floor mop and loved it so thought this would be an upgrade. But it is awful. Terrible – DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Would return it in a flash if Harvey Norman would have allowed me to but wouldn't. As a steam cleaner it is great! As a mop it is not very ordinary! The attatchments are very short so your bending down alot while mopping. The button to trigger the steam gives you very sore thumbs as it needs to be continually pressed while using. It leaves the floor very wet.
