Kmart Anko Hand Mixer

$20 wasted isn't the issue here. The issue is I need to cook for tomorrow. Trying to cream butter and sugar, which I start at low speed. The lowest speed on this is much to fast, and sprayed sugar across my kitchen. Fine for high speed whipping, no good for creaming, or folding. Get something better Show details
I have just used the Anko $19 hand mixer for the first time - and I won't be using it again! It has no low speed. At the 1 setting it was out of control and the kitchen is covered in batter and flour. It made such a mess I gave up and went back to hand mixing. I am just glad I tried it before I let my granddaughters use it as it would have been dangerous. Show details

Unusable – I'm reviewing the $12 one because Kmart sells also a more expensive model for $19. The instructions clearly stated that the unit cannot be operated continuously for more than 5 min or it will burn the motor. To continue using it one must take a 20 min break. Imagine the following scenario: The recipe calls for using whipped cream. Times required… Read more
are as follows:
1. Trails in the cream. 4-5 min 2. Soft peaks. 6-7 min 3. Firm peaks. 7-8 min 4. Stiff peaks. 8-9 min
So basically one must take 20 min breaks between each level before finishing the beating process? Is this a real life scenario; of course not. Kmart should redesign the product for proper use or advertise it as only usable to beat egg whites as the final stage of stiff peaks can be reached in 5 min.
I returned the product for a refund after reading the instructions. I didn't use the mixer for it was unsuitable to my baking needs.

I Should Have Listened To All The Reviews – My “old faithful” 47 year old Kenwood hand-mixer died. So off to KMart I went. I purchased the $19 Anko Hand Mixer. The first time I used it it spun out of control. My kitchen bench, windows, walls & floor were covered in splashes of cream! I had the setting on 1. There is little difference between 1 & 6. It’s crazy! I used it again - same thing happened. I’m taking it back to KMart! What a waste of money & my time. Do Not purchase this mixer. Show details

Stopped working first use while expelling toxic smelling smoke – Title says it all. Zero out of ten. Do not purchase. Turned it on and within a few seconds the most rancid burning plastic smell was underscored by it suddenly ceasing to work. Not only does my studio now smell like a chemical plant, but a whole cake is half mixed and has to be trashed. Came here to discover kmart has known about this health hazard for at least a year. Is this really produced to Australian standards? Show details

Very fast – Just replaced with a Sunbeam, so fast it flicks everything in the bowl around the kitchen, and won't stand on its base. Very disappointing Show details

Standard Kmart quality, when will we learn?! :-) – Travelled to my closest Kmart store today to purchase in person the items that were 'out of stock' once paid for in my online shop yesterday. Picked this up to make a cake tonight for a birthday tomorrow. Plugged it in, turned it on, put the beaters into the soft butter and it immediately made a sad swan song type noise, never to work again. I… Read more
really should know by now that Kmart= crap quality, but those low prices keep on tricking me into going back! I'm so stupid. I would save a lot of time and hassle if I just forked out a bit more cash to buy quality items elsewhere and boycotted Kmart. Will I do that next time? Probably not.

Dreadful - Safety Concerns – Safety issues: When used for a couple of minutes, I could smell something like plastic charring and had to stop The speed control at lowest level is simply too fast and end up splashing on stuff you need to go at decent low speed. The dough hook is pretty much useless, doesn't work the way it should. Show details

Good for the price – The $10 Anko hand mixer is decent and really for the price you can’t complain. You get what you pay for and in terms of value for money this is great. Be aware that low speed is not really low speed at all and there is very little difference between the 5 available speeds on this product. I didn’t require anything top notch and this meets one my needs well enough.
Thanks for your review on our mixer, we're glad to hear you're liking it.
