  GR2110

Great mower – The diesel engine has plenty of power, even when the grass is thick. The 4WD gets me through wet grass or up steep hills with no fuss. The steering system is light and makes the mower very maneuverable. I have previously owned a Kubota BX1800 and a Worldlawn Cobra zero turn mower. The BX1800 had great traction and was solid as a rock but wasn't very good in tight areas. The zero turn was fantastic in tight areas but scary as hell on slopes and no good if the ground was soft as the front casters could really dig into the ground being not very wide. The GR2110 combines the best of both worlds. Mine has around 400hrs with no issues so far.

  GR2110

First couple years fine all down hill after that – How can I not post personal details? When my tractor won't start unless I turn the flywheel a little by hand so the starter will engage, and after I get it started it won't shut off I got to open the hood and kill it by hand. I can't turn to sharp or the tires keep spinning and tears up my lawn. Other than it cuts just fine

Junk – Glide steer cable broke. The mower deck gear box has leaked from day one, repaired twice and still leaks even after the dealer put in 90w gear oil. Great broke in transmission ($975 to repair), hood broke off and is attached with bungee cords. Dealer was terrible to work with.

This is better than good - its invaluable – I tossed up whether to go for a full on BX2150 or 1850 tractor, in the end choosing a GR2110 lawn tractor. Our property is too hilly and obstacle filled for a tractor, although i was very tempted as the extra PTOs would be handy. I really like the compact GR2110, it is so nimble it will turn in its own length. As noted above, it did catch me out on a 45 deg hill spinning the front wheel trying to reverse, had to plough forward in the end. The one incident on a hilly property in 10 months (around 30 hours) use.

Over all i would rate it highly, its built like a brick *&^*house, if you bump into anything it will usually just brush it off. The deck is thick enough to be welded if required, and the liquid cooled diesel will run all day smoothly.

--------------------------------------- 2016 update.. (after 242 hours) --------------------------------------- Other than paying for a service every 18 months or so, there have been no hidden expenses or issues with this lawn tractor - it still purrs away like a new one. Our local Kubota mechanic advises the same 3 cylinder diesel motor is used for a number of purposes, such as refrigeration units and pumps - they are started and basically run flat out all day. He has been servicing them for years, in his opinion they are bullet proof.

The transmission is mentioned by some owners (mainly the previous model incarnation) as a potential weak point, so far absolutely no problems. It is being used to mow around 3 acres of hilly terrain - far from easy going.

I did have an issue with a terminal sounding steering noise on full right lock while traveling up or down steep inclines. Found this was the right hand hood catch assembly bolt touching on the vibrating dynamo lol ... removed the stop, placed a washer behind it and reinstalled (or you could grind the bolt a few mm shorter) and the noise is gone.

The deck up/down control can become a little sticky if you don't keep it lubed, I use a lanolin based spray lube on the linkages once a month to keep everything operating like new. I also grease the nipples for steering, and cutting deck etc periodically to keep it running smoothly.

Its still running the original Kubota blades, and they are in pristine condition. Our property has been progressively cleared of problem rocks so the GR would have only run over rocks and tree roots occasionally over the years. Even so, it handles this with zero damage, unlike a smaller unit (such as Greenfield) with more flimsy deck and blades.

So no problems after over 5 years, this machine is proving to be very robust, its built like a tank. In the cooler months after 2-3 weeks in the shed without any trickle charging it will still start fine, at this time of year (Jan) its being used around 3 times per week. The cut (for our mixture of grasses) is even and simply excellent. A slow speed cut is rewarded with billiard table smooth results, high speed cut is still more than acceptable.

For anybody living on hilly terrain I would recommend one of these units without hesitation. If you are thinking of spending 4-5k on a new petrol zero turn or similar, I would seriously consider stopping ...and looking for a used Kubota - provided it has a service history they are a far safer long term choice.

Note#1 - the rust spots noted initially were purely minor surface rust on heavy plated steel subframe, they were never anything more than an aesthetic annoyance.

Note#2 - the rear subframe has a ready made pair of mounting points behind the transmission, I fabricated some brackets and mounted an outboard boot/trunk (using a cheap steel toolbox) there, which has been a useful addition.

------------ Jan 2017: ------------ Yes its still going strong after around 300 hours usage in Queensland heat/humidity, predominantly mowing grass with the occasional bit of towing trailers about. Clean out the filter gauze on the radiator, blow out the accumulated grass from the undercarriage, keep all the steering and deck nipples greased, lube the deck linkages and it should run trouble free. Our GR is now over 7 years old, still runs the original blades and original battery (may switch that regardless..) - other than scheduled servicing it is proving to be quite economical and very robust. Note the later models have switched from cable actuated glide steer in favour of solid linkages, this appears to be an improvement on paper however the cables have never required any adjustment on our unit.

-------------------------- June 2017 -------------------------- Replaced the original battery, cold cranking was starting to become a bit slow, even after trickle charging (which I had never bothered with before). New battery solved that, still no issues with the GR. Decided to throw some LED headlight inserts into it, often find myself driving it back to the garage late in the day, the standard lighting is ok but just average.

--------------------------- September 2018 --------------------------- Annual report time... around 325 hours. Standard maintenance, grease the GR every 3 or so months, clean it out after each use with a leaf blower, no issues whatsoever with this unit. The only issue in the past 12 months has been a front flat tyre after running over some fencing wire offcuts... Very tight turning circle, good quality cut - as long as you take your time mowing. A few dots of rust appearing on the subframe after a month or so, hasnt deteriorated since. The 4x4 does not lock in all the time, had me stuck once.. Price was a bit steep, but then so is any other comparable 4x4, JD cost even more. The tractor comparison always comes up, detractors should compare their mowing results with a tractor and one of these, the 2110 is far better for lawns.

--------------------------- February 2020 --------------------------- Only up to 343 hours due to a number of months away in 2019, with a contractor looking after the mowing. March - June 2019 was unseasonally wet, we then had an extended period of dry weather, so no mowing was required for 2-3 months pre christmas 2019. We then moved to deluges in January - another extended wet period, so not too much inbetween. Still nothing whatsoever of interest to report, Kubota still fires up reliably whenever required, is a joy to ride, and happily trundles around the property for the ~1.5 - 2 hour mowing sessions. We are still on the original blades, cut quality is still excellent, even longer damp grass post heavy rainfall doesn't phase it. A *good* comparative contracting rate here is $90-100 for a very basic hour of acreage mowing, at that rate we are pushing toward ~$35k value out of this machine. BTW - Before I park this machine in its lockup, I do blow all the grass out of it with a blower, blow around the deck, steering gear, air intake, and clean the filter on the radiator every couple of mows. May keep it running a bit more efficiently. It is now due for maintenance, still very happy with the GR.
