Like most of the other commenters, I have been a loyal L’Oréal Excellence customer for over 15 years. I noticed a change in the formula last year but decided to persist as I loved this brand. The product is now too thick to use (it hurts my hand to keep squeezing the bottle, and shaking the product down to the nozzle). The colour result is much more orange that it used to be - it is turning my greys orange now instead of dark brown. However by far the worst change is that my hair seems to be thinning. My scalp feels warm and tingly when I’m using the product and then for a few days after. I have noticed I can see more of my scalp under certain lighting and I’m sure it’s due to this new formula. I will be changing brands, which I am sad about because I loved this colour, the shampoo and the comb nozzle that not many other brands seem to have.

Used the product to cover greys. Worked well for 2 days before the color washed out of my hair and greys were visible to over an inch. What a waste of money!

Very disappointed by new formula – I have been using Loreal Excellence Crème, shade Dark Frosted Brown 4.15 for about 10 years. It has always been excellent. Until now (Dec 2024). The box said New packaging, but there was no obvious ‘new formula’ messaging. The product, when mixed, used to be cream in colour, with a creamy smooth texture. When I mixed the new pack it was gluggy and thick, like it was curdled. The colour was a pale slime green. I discarded the entire lot as I was worried it was a bad lot. I mixed up another box and it all looked the same as the first one. I went ahead and used it, and while the colouring worked as usual, it was very hard to apply as the consistency is so thick and congealed, it was very hard to wash out, and it also stained my skin in a way that I’ve never had with this product in the past, which really concerned me. It left my hair feeling a bit dry and straw-like, which I’ve also never had in the past. I’m so disappointed with this change to a product I have used for years. I join fellow customers in requesting that L’Oréal please return to the previous formula.

Turned my hair black – I wanted to cover the greys in my medium to dark brown hair. I chose Dark Frosted Brown because most advice says to stick close to your natural colour, but my hair ended up almost black! It has lightened or faded to medium brown in the 3 months since I dyed it because I didn’t use any colour protect products, in fact I tried to do the opposite because I looked like a goth!
When I contacted L’Oreal, they said that the colours shown on the box are for non-dyed hair but who hasn’t dyed their hair before? It had been 6 months since I had it dyed at a salon so I followed the instructions for hair that hadn’t been dyed for a while. Now I have to go to a salon to have the colour corrected because they said if I try a lighter colour, it won’t work putting colour on top of colour. The whole point of this was to save money by doing it myself, but I think I’ll have to keep going to a salon because at least I know what colour I’m going to get.
Went a shade lighter still awesome! – I have used dark frosted brown forever on my totally silver hair and loved it. I have started to allow my hair a little longer and noticed I was getting some dark build-up on the very ends (I try to only get the roots but hey). So I went a shade lighter to medium frosted brown, it's fab. 100 percent coverage, easy to apply with no drips, natural shade and super silky hair. I still allow my hair to rest for two days prior, no washing and no product, and my sensitive scalp is totally fine with the processing. Also I have noticed that this product doesn't really stain the skin like others do. I would love a salon colour but I need it done every 5 weeks or so, so it would cost a fortune. I grab this on sale at WW and do my hair for 10-15 dollars. Very happy.
