Great speaker, powerful for its size – This is a great buy, I have multiple ones inside my home gym. I love how you can pair them to each other to give a surround sound effect. Battery life is pretty impressive too, highly recommend.

Cracking product – Love this little speaker. My kids knock it about and it just keeps working. Has a great battery life and decent sound. Wouldn't mind a bit more bass but for the money, don't know how you could go wrong with buying this little gizmo.

If don't change doesn't matter how good it is – Look had the wonderboom 2 for about a year but return it all the time to exchange for new one because charger stops working which make it useless it's been about 5 times so keep receipt. The main button on top can be used to pause/play or skip to the next song, and the volume range is impressive.

Ours has become dirty once or twice after being carried around the garden all day doing yard work, and due to it’s waterproof nature we’ve just washed it in the sink and it’s as good as new again. This also means there’s been no need to panic when it has started raining while I’m gardening.

The battery lasts really well, and you get plenty of notice (in the form of the power light changing from white to red) when the charge is getting low.

Great little speaker, would highly recommend!

it were the later, the UE Wonderboom 2 would not have made the list because it does not have a built-in microphone. None of them supports google home or alexa or siri.

In terms of sound quality (and volume), UE Wonderboom 2 trumps by some distance. There are two sound settings - indoor or outdoor. At indoor setting, treble is not very articulate. It can sound crowded but it’s fairly well extended, its mid range is clear and does not dominate over like many small speakers. Bass is a little slow and rolls off obviously for small speaker like this with some emphasis on upper bass. For a small battery powered speaker of course the punch is limited. Still noticeably better than the others!

With outdoor setting turned on, it produces markedly more treble and mid helping sound waves to reach further. Unlike the others, the sound from UE Wonderboom 2 is almost omni-directional. This speaker is obviously designed for entertainment, especially outdoors where speaker is placed in the middle for all to enjoy.

All three of them pretty much have the same active/passive driver design although UE Wonderboom 2 has two 40mm active drivers and two rectangular passive drivers as opposed to single active and single passive driver in the other two - JBL Clip 3’s active driver is also 40mm and slightly bigger 4.6cm driver in Sony.

The UE Wonderboom 2 has by far the louder sound also, about twice as loud as Sony in particular.

Controls are similar between them. I haven't really used Sony or JBL in anger so can't speak about them. I did find the UE Wonderboom top buttons confusing at start without reading the manual. Could have labelled the buttons better. The "O" button in the middle looked like the power button but it is the "-" button on top that is the power button. The "O" button is for play / pause / skip instead. No problem with the volume control buttons on the side of course! Outdoor setting button at the bottom.

I don't really like little strap with the silicone section. It is a tad short to be practical. And, I don't like the audio cues. They are too loud. I much prefer the google home / alexa way of using LED lights for providing clues what is happening. Knowing the battery level is important. Remembering to hold both + & - buttons and getting 3 levels only by tune is a bit silly. Might as well use blinking lights and show 10 levels. That said, controls can be learnt / gotten used to.

In terms of shape and dimensions, UE Wonderboom 2 and Sony are both cylindrical and JBL Clip 3 looks like google home mini.

In terms of connections, all are charged by usb-a micro usb with supplied cable. There is no 3.5mm stereo AUX jack with the UE Wonderboom 2 but at least the unit is operational while charging. I have yet to have any problem with bluetooth connection and sorry did not test the range.

Battery life - Based on manufacturer's claim, Sony SRS-XB12 has 16 hours, verses 13 hours for UE Womderboom 2, verses 10 hours for JBL Clip 3.

Scoring the UE Wonderboom 2 is difficult. Its weakness in treble fades away somewhat with a little distance. It does well outdoors for entertainment. Love that outdoor button. Great idea! After all, it is a portable product! UE Wonderboom 2 strikes me as a product purpose built and does well in that, definitely better than the other two as far as sound quality is concerned.

I imagine UE Wonderboom 3 will have a microphone built-in and may even support google home / alexa / siri and +/- button on its face would light up with colour changing LED. Since I only have one so I can't test this, a couple of UE Wonderboom 2 can be paired to make stereo speakers or synced as one. That said, JBL Clip 4 which is not available in Australia yet doesn’t have a microphone. So, I give it a well deserved solid 4 stars (4.5 stars if I could)!

For my use case, the UE Wonderboom 2 is a much better product and better value. Sony SRS-XB12 ranked worst of the three although a tad better sound at lower volume compared with the JBL Clip 3. I don't like its name - "extra bass" when bass is lacklustre. May be other Sony products are worst. Feel sorry for those who bought it because it is called extra bass speaker or merely because it is a Sony.

[12/12/20] Update - Like this speaker enough I bought a second one so I can go stereo. Not too bad at all! Press and hold middle buttons on both speakers to pair speakers. First time it syncs both speakers in mono. Press and hold again to go stereo. Switching one off doesn't switch off another. Neither does switching on one switch on another of course.

husband is connected I can easy connect with my phone and take it back over when its not being used. This has been a big issue with other speakers in having to actually disconnect on the phone connected to the speaker before a new phone could connect - so to find this speaker so easy was bonus points.

I got the pretty blue one and really like the fact there are colour choices which also means I can find it easy when I have sat it down in the garden while I do gardening. The sound quality is clear even when the volume is turned right up.

It is nice and light making it easy to carry around the house or yard as I move around. The battery lasts a long time, I am yet to flatten the battery while using it and I can easily run it all day while doing housework, gardening or hobbies. I haven't tested its feature with floating and waterproof as I don't tend to use it places like that so I can not really review it on that feature.

My only downside is the app doesn't work with this speaker. I was kinda looking forward to using it with the app as my son has a larger wonderboom and I liked the feature of the party mode and people putting in song requests like a jukebox. However that is the only thing I can fault it on so I'm not that worried - would have just been a nice extra feature.

I highly recommend this speaker if your after something small and portable with loud and clear sound.

Best Budget Beats – The sound and quality that comes out of this thing is amazing! It gets really loud as well and last up to 10 hours. But honestly, I swear it lasts longer. I play it for houra on end for a week and it still doesnt go flat. And it charges fully within an hour or 2. Show details

Excellent portable speaker – This portable speaker has exceptional sound quality. It’s easy to use and is waterproof. Outdoor boost button for a quick extra boost. Small on size, big on quality. Excellent product, highly recommend if you’re looking for value for money.
