A Good Idea At The Time – Always Wanted A Spare Small Oven With Hotplates As A Backup & For Holidays etc. Wow, It Came With A Rotisserie Too ! So For Less Than $100 I Bought One...Basic Roasting It Works Fine But The Rotisserie Is A Joke ! It's Rotation From The Bottom Of The Arc Is O.K But A Few Degrees Past The Top & It Just Flops Straight Down To The Bottom Position… Read more
Again, Over & Over Again !...The Controls Are Confusing To Set Correctly & The Dial Is Difficult To Set As The Only Pointing Indicator Is A Shallow Depression Which Is Hard To See Depending On The Lighting Conditions. A Simple White Dot or White Slot Would Have Eliminated This Problem...The Dial Markings Have Also Started To Wear Away !...A Simple Transparent Disc Covering The Numbers Would Have Solved That Problem....Coordinating Items Cooked On The Hot Plates Could Be A Problem Too As They Are Unable To Be Used While The Oven Is Operating...Ho Hum !
A convenient compact oven and grill, with bonus hot plate capabilities - great value for the modest – These oven hot plate combinations are a regular Aldi promotional offer. The first thing to consider is the price- under $100. What they give you for the price is excellent, and generally highly functional. The oven and grill are very efficient. The hot plates are a compromise, given that this is a very modestly priced product. One hot… Read more
plate works at a fixed temperature, while the other does offer heat adjustment.
Before you buy, I suggest you consider whether it is right for you. Personally, I have found it a very good compact oven and grill, which work in the way you would expect, and give you the convenience of a fan forced oven and grill.
The hot plates are low powered (technically necessary as this product operates on a normal 10 amp. household power supply) but they are an extra convenience.
If you are looking for an economical low priced solution, then this could be ideal for you; but don’t expect more than this type of compact cooker can deliver realistically.
At first an excelent product, but got very rusty in no time – I have bought a lot of Lumina products, because of a good price, no problem with any of them, until I was given this product, unfortunaly it got rusty very quick, and i for sure looked after it reading the insructions. I can not tell you exactly when this was bought, because it was a present. I have only estimated the date. This was bought at ALDIS.
Just exploded! – Just randomly blew out the glass door across the room! Lucky not to be right in front of it at the time, and the kids weren't in the kitchen, or we'd be on the way to hospital with shrapnel embedded in our face. Do not buy this no matter what!
Its Perfect – Great bench top oven a bit hard to clean .Grills and roasts well, cake cooking is good with only the bottom element on
Great for baking and roasting – I have had this now for over 5 years and use it frequently. I have use for roasting beef , lamb, chicken and pork and have had excellent results. My 14 yo daughters use it to bake muffins and cakes with brilliant results. I have not used the stove tops so can't comment as I prefer cooking on the stovetop. Show reply
Dangerous – i had a few various brands of these ovens over the years. I had it for 18 months and one day while using it i heard a pop and the fuse blew. I replaced the fuse - everything was fine. When i tried the oven again it blew and a huge spark came out of the electrical outlet, There was nothing else on. I did not like the fact you can not use the… Read more
hotplates and oven at the same time. I use to use it for pizza all the time. and the hotplates cooked really slow that pasta will get soggy instead of cooked.
Misleading Box Images Don't Tell the Entire Truth – I bought this model for about $75 from Aldi thinking I was getting a great deal. Upon further testing with a current draw device (a thing that tells you how much power is being used) I found out an interesting fact... The temperature of the hot plates on top are pre-set to about 100 degrees and cannot be adjusted manually in any way. This seems… Read more
to be a deliberate omission on the box and in the instruction manual. I call it misleading.
It is reasonable to assume that the temperature of the hot plates SHOULD be independently adjustable as with any cook top. However this is NOT the case here. The temperature adjustment knob is only to control the oven. This should have been stated somewhere on the box and in the instructions.
The oven does seem to work well and responds promptly and appropriately to the set temperature. I'm yet to fully try out the rotisserie and baking capabilities, however from what I've read above and from my initial assessment of the Lumina oven I would feel confident about using the oven for baking and toasting and roasting.
The combination knob controls are not intuitive to use, nor are the pictures particularly clear next to each selection.
The first knob at the top, controls oven/grill temperature only (not the hot plates).
The second knob lets you choose between the oven/toaster functions... Bottom heating element, top heating element, both top and bottom, rotisserie/convection (fan), or just convection (fan).
The third knob controls the choice of either one of the hot plates being on, or both. Or, a combination of the smaller hot plate and the oven/grill being on. Or just the grill/oven on its own.
The fourth knob is a timer that activates the main power and gives you up to one hour of unattended function.
Now knowing all of the above, I would only look at the Lumina 34L Rotisserie Oven as a toaster/oven first and foremost. The hot plates I would only consider for making sauce or keeping food warm. Or perhaps slow cooking soup. You WILL NOT get a rolling boil from the hot plates on this unit and I do not consider this appliance suitable for general purpose stove top cooking.
I'm contemplating if I keep the unit. Buy separate appliances as a toaster/oven and electric cook top. Or keep it as a toaster/oven/food warmer and just get something else for general stove top cooking.
Lumina Rotisserie – The previous review was spot on. It cooks well in the oven, being small it heats up quickly. However the hot plates take forever to heat up, cooking pasta is very time consuming! This makes it very frustrating to time manage your evening meal. The function switch does not comply with the other functions of the unit either. For example I want to… Read more
turn the oven on so I turn the top dial to desired temperature then the next dial down, the function selector, (which is not mentioned on page 9 of the instruction booklet that comes with the purchase if you want to just bake something in the oven, however you DO need to turn it on to the selection to the left that shows the top & bottom element and the fan in the illustration) then the 3rd dial I turn to 'oven' and then the bottom 'timer' dial on. It is a confusing system for sure but I make do with it as it is in the granny flat I rent.
Due to the the size of the oven it heats up quickly (but that is not a feature of the oven it is just the regular size of a bench top oven/stove unit).
Excellent – when I 1st used it I had top and bottom elements on and I burn my cake and a pie. I am not used to using electric.next cake I made I only had the bottom elements on. cake was beautiful. I have not tried the stove top yet. It does have pictures on the dials they have helped. light weigh so I can use it indoors or outdoors under my patio in… Read more
summer.
I think for the future if I was to remodel my kitchen I would not buy the traditional stove and oven I would go for for one of these.
Also The price is Perfect. Time will tell as to how long it will last. I hope for a long time. Not enough info in booklet. I would like to know How to roast a chicken in it.
and more recipes, to help me judge temperature and cooking times.
Lumina Rotisserie – This was a very poor purchase for us. We rely on a benchtop oven for all of our cooking and although this has all the bells and whistles they just don't work. Inexpensive. The oven part cooks really well, making a great roast, scones and pies. Once you attempt to use more than one function at a time the entire system fails. With other benchtop… Read more
ovens we have been able to use both elements or a single element and oven at the same time. The Lumina has the function that allows this but if you turn on more than one function it just makes them work at minimum power (not enough to boil water). I can't even make spaghetti and the bolognaise or roast and veggies at the same time.Ridiculous when you're trying to make dinners.
