Mantovani Traditional Fruit Panettone
1 review
Panettone, that lovely Italian bread/cake that about the size of a cabbage. Often made with spiced dried fruit, sometimes with alcohol, and this time with chocolate chips. We just finished dinner tonight, and my daughter had bought this panettone from Aldi earlier. Let's try this out! Now I've had Panetonne many times, not as much as an Italian I'd imagine, but being almost 70yo, Id be confident in declaring my experience with this traditional Italian fare, probably more than most others (non-Italians). Every time I've enjoyed this delight though, it had been with the spiced dried fruit and peel, sometimes with alcohol....however this time, this 750g wonder, came with 100g of dark chocolate. It was light, yet firm, moist and not dry at all. What a lovely surprise! The cake was truly yummy, and the choc chips really set it off. Available from Aldi for $9.
Follow-up · It didn't take long to finish this cake, about 4 days, during which I kept it wrapped in it's original cellophane bag with the wire twist to keep it closed. We served it with tea and coffee, straight from the bag cut into pieces, onto a platter, though at the end, my daughter and I were just tearing off pieces....hahaha. Personally, one doesn't need an occaision to have this. At $9 each, you could probably have it every month and never get tired of it.
