Goes through an Industry Standard Oil Processing – Well give this 4 Stars for the transparency from the Manufacture. From Melrose; "The cod livers are steam distilled to remove the oil, this oil is then purified via a low temperature, high vacuum process. The process is as follows: fish livers → grinding→ cooking to extract the oil from livers→ centrifuge to separate water and solids from oil →… Read more

refining → vacuum drying → winterization to remove stearin → cod liver oil.

This product must always contain the same amount of Vitamin A and D as per TGA regulations and for this reason these vitamins are added to the finished product as they are lost during processing. Vitamin D is added in a form of cholecalciferol and vitamin A as retinol. These are the natural forms of the vitamins.

The oil is tested for heavy metals and environmental toxins to ensure only the purest quality premium fish oil. It is gently flavored with natural orange to improve palatability."

- So in my unprofessional opinion they wouldn't have to add the vitamins back into it if they didn't cook the hell out of it the first place, meaning the product could be at risk of oxidization (rancid). If they would like to respond to this review and provide the Total Oxidation Value TOTOX results I'm sure customers would appreciate it. Maybe let us know the temperature of the boil and processes which use heat?

The TOTOX level should be under 27, or it could be considered Rancid. Consuming oxidized supplements can have disasters effects for your health (like consuming seed oils/hydrogenated oils). If it is under this limit I would recommend this product but also consider how long this product has been sitting on the shelf and its expiry date.

In Australia more than 30% of the Fish Oil supplements on the shelf are rancid. https://www.omega3galil.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Oxidation-of-fish-oil-supplements-in-Australia.pdf

Can consider other cod liver oil supplements which use a different manufacturing process. One is "cold pressed" and other is "fermented". These will probably taste like crap in comparison but its because it doesn't go through a heavy refining to remove the natural taste. You will also pay thru the butt for a more quality supplement like this. So also consider just eating alternative whole foods like Salmon, Maceral, Fish Roe & Sardines for Omega 3's and foods like liver, fish, eggs, mushrooms & milk for Vitamin A & D.

Doesn't taste like cod liver oil – Skeptical on how much cod liver oil is actually in this product. Very mild taste. Like their macadamia oil that tastes like perfume. Show details

Flavoured variety too sweet – A few month ago a flavoured variety of Melrose fish oil was introduced, which for my taste is too sweet. I prefered an unflavored variety. It simply tastes like honey now. I can imagine a lot of sweetener is added to it, which in itself is detrimental to one's health. There are no other alternatives from Melrose now apart from a flavoured product. Show details

Surprised with taste & benefits of codliver oil – Very happy with product. Immediately after taking one soupspoon, I have some yoghurt. No after-taste at all. Same with husband. I initially took it for its vit A to boost my low energy. It is helping! And my mature skin is glowing. I have just bought my 2nd bottle. Also my joints are noticeably more limber. Wrapt! It may be healthy - but I can't take it. It is unpleasant in my throat – 3-6-7-9 OMEGA OIL is so very extremely rough after swallowing, as compared with Melrose Ultra Premium High Strength Fish Oil. This latter oil is so customer friendly you just swallow it and it takes no effort at all. Show details

Is this really full-strength cod liver oil? – I purchased Melrose cod liver oil today and was dismayed. Full-strength cod liver oil is so vile that it is almost impossible to drink without mixing it with orange juice or other juice. Comments by reviewers that it is easy to take / drink miss the point: how potential is it? I have started taking cod liver oil to try to alleviate arthritis and… Read more

dryness of the vertebrae. My impression is that this Melrose product has been made very palatable but has lost potency.

It's OK, some points good, some not – I was fine with it, I had not had adverse reactions. But towards the bottom, it started tasting a bit bitter. I did notice that I developed greater period-related abdominal cramps when I had been taking it a lot in a particular month. Has a fishy smell and makes my breath, and urine, smell fishy. I suppose this is normal. I don't mind continuing taking it. Show details

Good value for money and quality product – I noticed almost instant boost in testosterone. Contacted their customer product advice service and received prompt clear advice regarding my concerns. I am satisfied that the vitamin content is from natural sources. Excellent value for money.

Cheaper for a reason – Thought I'd try this cheaper cod liver oil $20 from chemistwarehouse. Has a light sardine like aftertaste like the oil from a can of sardines. My usual Nordic Naturals Artic Cod Liver oil which is three times the price seems well worth it as it has NO fishy aftertaste at all, just the orange/peach/strawberry flavours u can choose from.

Well worth it – I discovered Melrose through the Weston Price website - which of course has all you'd ever want to know about Cod Liver Oil. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I assume all cod liver oil tastes a little unpleasant. But you're only taking 4ml a day so it is hardly going to make you gag. Of course I have no proof that it is the sole reason… Read more

II haven't been hit hard by the flu for the last 6 months, but I've a suspicion that it has probably helped. Most of us could do with a little extra A & D. Bought it on sale for about $16 at Chemist Warehouse. Will probably last 12 months - can't beat that for value. I'm sure you could mix it with a smoothie or something if you can't handle the taste. Inexpensive, convenient
