Very disappointed in the Surface Laptop 5. The battery barely lasts 4 hours. I don't stream and only use it for working purposes. Would NOT buy again. Show details
I have a Surface Pro 9, but I'm not happy with this tablet like a laptop. Some of the reasons are listed below * The reflective screen caused me difficulties focusing on the screen. This is especially difficult with high outside lighting. * App do crash most often, such as Adobe Acrobat, Printer/Scanner app * Only USB-C ports make it difficult to connect other devices. I wish I had gone with Dell. Show details
I used to have an Apple Mac Air from 2014 until 2022 and was extremely satisfied with its performance. When I decided to try a Microsoft Surface Laptop 4—which was three times more expensive than my Mac Air—I quickly realized that the Mac Air was far superior. Even eight years after its purchase, my Mac Air still delivered nearly 5–6 hours of… Read more
battery life, whereas the Surface Laptop 4 only offered about 3–4 hours right out of the box.
Recently, the Surface Laptop 4 started experiencing significant issues. I can’t use it on battery power alone; it keeps restarting when unplugged. Even when it’s connected to a charger, it functions normally only while I’m actively using it. Once the screen goes into screensaver mode, it restarts again. When I requested a repair, I was quoted $1,360—roughly the price of a new Mac Air.
Given these recurring problems and the high cost of repair, I believe it would be far more sensible to invest in a new Mac Air and retire this problematic device.
Unreliable device – This is an unreliable device. Foolishly, I bought a second one after my first one died, because I liked the functionality. But both the first and second device have had constant glitches and I’m completely fed up with the Surface Pro. I have just got back the second device after the screen died under warranty, and set it all up again this morning… Read more
and it was working fine at my clinic. I came home to finish my notes and the pen is not working, although it is connected and the eraser is working. And it’s not the tip as I’ve tried several others!! My first pen broke (?!) and this is a second pen. I’ve had issues with the rotation lock, pens not working intermittently (often spontaneously correcting), camera issues (again sometimes working, sometimes not) and of course the screen dying after about 6 months. If you want ease with technology, don’t buy a Surface Pro.
Not-suitable for engineering – Great, compact and lightweight laptop, however not suitable for downloading multiple softwares for engineering. When problems arise (Commonly doesn't connect to internet quickly), laptop has to been sent away to Microsoft. Show details
Awful! Constant restarts, can't last a few hours on battery – Bought as brand new Surface Pro 7. Also bought with a new Dock 2 (for compatibility). Not only does it constantly restart for no reason, it can't last more than a few hours on battery, the Docking station does not provide enough power nor connect properly to screens or other attached devices. Don't have more than a few tabs open or it will have a… Read more
meltdown. Absolute rubbish - not sure what Microsoft expects, but at this rate I won't buy any of their products in future if they don't get their act together.
Having trouble – Having trouble with it rendering in affinity photo and is freezing with a simple command... I checked that the laptop had the right requirements for these tasks before I bought it and it was the main reason for buying it so I could work from anywhere. I have sent it back and it is still playing up. But in saying that in all other aspects it works fine. I do banking and pay the rent and never have problems. Show details
Worst laptop I ever have – Can't startup when you want it to start. Startup when you don't want it to start. Randomly stuck - such as mouse, mic etc. Unfortunately it is a company laptop and not my choice. Show details
Unreliable time waster – Purchased this PC as it was a Microsoft product, quality one would think, think again, disappearing keyboards, shut downs, high battery usage. You spend more time trying to refresh, find the keyboard than actually doing any work, in fact you can type something and when you look up it has placed random characters instead of what you typed. Do yourself a favour forget this unit Show details
A $700 brick would have made me happier – Slow everything and I bought it brand new. Hardly ever connects to the internet. Worthless. Show details
Worst laptop ever – Crashes randomly, extremely poor battery life, screen is bleeding, extremely slow, overall terrible laptop. Would not recommend this even to my worst enemy thats how bad this piece of crap is. Show details
Excellent laptop for educational & work purposes – Hi friends, I’m Microsoft Laptop user from past 4-5 years. It’s nice Laptop and I like the touch screen with very good resolution. It’s slim and light weight, if you just carry laptop in a bag but with charger, bag feels bit heavy. Only once I had problem with their charging adapter but when I had a chat with their staff, they did send another one within couple of days. Show details
DO NOT BUY – Catastrophic failure within 6 months. Microsoft will not exchange (for new) or refund any major faults which is not in line with Consumer Laws of Australia. They offer no compensation for lost work time and no attempts to expedite processes unless you provide credit card details and give them $,$$$. They will exchange for a second hand model but this takes months and the faults repeat. A very expensive lesson learned. Show details

Horrible product and customer support – So I have a Surface Pro 4, a while back it started flickering, I did some investigation and it turns out to be a well known and documented manufacturing problem, it’s so severe actually that they have a global replacement program. I went through their support and they confirmed that my device is indeed defective but because I bought it more than a… Read more
year ago they won’t replace the device! Instead, they “offered” me another Surface Pro 4 for $851 and the support girl in China is surprised that I’m not “satisfied with her resolution”.
Thr screen is too easily damaged and not repairable – I bought the surface laptop because it's portable lightweight with great functions. Expensive but I thought worth it. Screen got a tip I can't even call it a bang or knock as there was not even an outside scratch but the screen had a black line which then poured across. My only option paying towards a replacement as turns out thr screen om my own… Read more
typ of computer cannot be repaired, very unusual but true. They didn't factor or prioritise that when making them
Faulty laptops bad customer service – Purchased this laptop originally over a year ago, since then i hae had 3 replacements as they have all had cracked screens, im trying to get a refund and this is proving impossible, speaking with a Call centre in India, who continuously say that they have been trying to call me and left meassages (funny i have had no missed calls or voicemails) I… Read more
would avoid and spend your money on a better product. iam now taking this as far as i can to get my money back, as they are breaking my consumer right by not providing one.
Worst Laptop - Terrible Battery and Charger – Battery life of this laptop is pretty bad. Had problems with the chargers that comes with the laptop. Worst decision ever was to purchase this laptop. When purchasing I was expecting a laptop with the apple quality thats running on windows, given the price paid to purchase it. But it has been nothing but a disappointment. Show details
Poor battery life- – Poor battery life The issue with battery is not just the fact that it runs out pretty fast but also if you want to replace the battery , it is another battle together . The battery is glued and if you need to open it , it would be quite hard . There are definitely better laptops out there . And if you do buy this crap get 5 year warranty Show details
Too many issues, but decent for some – The OG Surface Laptop. Running a 7th Gen i5, where 10th Gen is the latest. I experienced poor battery life as well (it was a demo anyway, so battery was only 2/3 the size of rated capacity!). It has hardly any ports. The webcam is horrible. On the plus side- it has a very, very good screen (touchscreen as well). The keyboard and trackpad are a… Read more
dream as well. It also is thin and very, very light making it extremely portable. However, it is a fingerprint magnet. Don't pay anything more than $800 for this spec otherwise you'll be bitterly disappointed. UPDATE: The Hinge is going crazy after just 6 months of ownership. Dropping the rating. UPDATE 2: THE "BLUE ALCANTARA" is just a blue plastic layer over GREY alcantara and is peeling off! Dropping the rating down again
Worst purchase I have ever made – This has to be the worst laptop I have ever used. 1. Continuous issues with having to reset my PIN everyday after an MS update. Nothing they can do apparently except tell me to reimage my machine. Done that, no change, still have to update every day. 2. The design is appalling, you have to buy a separate device to link to the laptop to be able to… Read more
have ethernet connection and more than 1 USB port. This is also temperamental, does not like USBs, when plugged in the laptop continuously interrupts work, screen blanking and messages 'USB cannot be identified' even when no USB plugged in it still does it. 3. Ethernet keeps interrupting, the connection from the adaptor to the laptop is flawed, really is poor.
Overall, this is an extremely expensive hardware solution that is not worth the trouble and stress it causes. A horror of a machine that I am going to be replacing as soon as possible.
Worst computer ever (and the customer service isn't much better – This device has failed three times and has been replaced by Microsoft, each new one fails in a different way - audio, camera, battery. Buy any other computer on the market.
Does not start windows after 7 months – I bought the Microsoft surface laptop direct from the Microsoft website for $1959 delivered. The laptop arrived quickly and the setup was easy enough. I transferred all my old data and photos to the laptop and the laptop was being used for not much more than the weekly skype call to family. The laptop moved very little - from the study (charging… Read more
cable) to the dining table for the skype calls.
After about 7 months the machine did not start windows - it went straight into the bios screen (or the equivalent for windows 10). I called support and they could not help and was told to send the device in to Microsoft - I did this and said that i need a refund as i don't want to have an unreliable device and obviously there is a major fault.
The response from Microsoft is below which indicates they can replace but will not refund the money paid. I do not want another device like this - all my previous laptops have been fine for many years without issue.

--------------------------------------------- UPDATE 7th June, 2019
Microsoft sent an email to say a new device has been sent out even after repeatedly being told that i just want my money back. I have now involved the ACCC to see if i am within my rights to get a refund for a laptop that had a major fault after 7 months. Laptops are not like kettles - you need something reliable.
I am now on my Fourth Surface Laptop in under 6 months -fingers crossed working ok. Working OK. Surface is good – I am writing this on my third Microsoft Surface in under 6 months. I have just paid another $550 to get the latest Surface Black Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90GHz, 2112 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) I have now paid in total $2600 for a computer that is not 'fit for purpose'. This too has the same problem. Microsoft would… Read more
appear to have a problem with a security vulnerability through the Touchpad when the Surface is on the Internet. When I am typing the screen will change in size as will the font.
I have just been told by Microsoft to run their Surface Diagnostics Toolkit - this on a brand new computer costing $2600. I am now considering taking the Surface back as 'not fit for purpose' and exchanging it for an Apple. This has nothing to do with Harvey Norman who I purchased the Laptops from - they have been very obliging and helpful.
Follow-up. My Fourth Surface is keeping its head above water and is working very well. I am using a Mouse not the Touchpad.
