Excellent Light Machine but no Windows 11 – Since I did this Microsoft have said Windows 11 is not available on this model. Given what they cost being a premium product and it isn’t that old it is very disappointing. The surface is like a replacement for an A4 notebook you carry around. It is about as light as a proper PC can be and the performance of the 2017 is more than good enough… Read more

for normal work tasks. If you are a digital content creator then it will not be fast enough but you probably will not be getting a surface! The textured keyboard makes it a bit easier to hold. Battery life is excellent unless you game on it but then again it isn't really powerful enough to game. The screen resolution excellent and you notice it when you move back to other machines.

The only downsides are it has no 'drop protection', if you drop it on a hard surface you can be pretty much assured the screen will crack. In being light there was no provision to make it robust. I also wish thte keyboard was included in the price, i dont know anyone who uses one without one so it is a bit of a scam to sell it separately.

Agree good if you have a 3 year warranty – I really enjoy the ease of use, portability and versatility of my Surface Pro 4 (purchased 29/06/2017) but unfortunately have been let down by the quality of the product. During use there were regular freezes, the keyboard stopped working after 2 years and after 3 years the machine has stopped working completely. i have no doubts that it will be… Read more

an expensive repair that means i will be looking for a new tablet/computer. Very little was asked of this machine as it was basically used to surf the web and occasionally traveled with me. There has been no physical abuse or other behaviour that could explain why it will no longer work after 3 years. All of my other devices have lasted for many more years than this one (twice the life at least) and while i love the product there is no way i am going back or trusting a Microsoft built product again - expect more longevity particularly given it had minimal work loads placed on it and the cost compared to other similar devices. Shame.

Good if you have 3Yr warranty support – Working with these in the office over the past year and a half has been both a joy and occasional challenge. It is light, compact and super mobile removing the need for multiple devices, however it can be fussy. Would I buy one with my own money? If the screen was closer to 13", performance was 30-50% better and 3Yr warranty standard, possibly.… Read more

The drawing experience is great and the display is super clear albeit on the smaller side. If all you do is push emails around, online research and sign a few docs during the day its a handy companion. Content creators and those more impatient may however struggle to let go of their more powerful laptop or desktop PC and end up using both.

Rubbish. Touch screen doesnt work – A touch screen tablet where the touch screen doesnt work. And Microsoft knows about it. Then send out another famous Microsoft update. Makes the thing totally useless. Get an iPad or laptop and save yourself the heartache. Show details

Awesome little laptop/tablet – I wanted something that was portable but also able to be used as a desktop app this was perfect! Does everything I need it to do and more, all in a sleek package. I love being able to use the pen and write on the tablet without smudging it when I rest my hand on the tablet. All in all a fantastic little device! Show details

Best Light laptop tablet hybrid – If you need more than an ipad / android tablet but still want a full PC that is portable this is one to look at. It is not a cheap device but it is a lot of portability for the amount of power. Has a full size USB port, mDP and the surface connector (charging and dock). It is a 3:2 ratio which is much better suited for reading (A4) than most… Read more

laptops. It costs the kind of money you would pay for a make book but has better features.

I do highly recommend the advance warranty though, There are not really parts or repair options outside MS and if you have the advance warranty they will send you a replacement then you send back the one with issues within a week. Very useful.

I like them so much that I have moved the Admin team at work from cellular ipads to Surface pros with LTE. they love 'em.

This device is awsome – I am a student and I cant explain how happy I am by using "split screen" feature for multitasking where I can see problems on one side and solutions on the other side of same screen. Thank You so much. I recommend it for all University students as this device is superb for us.  Show details

Changes the game, but the proprietary power connnector a huge let down – I use this everyday. It's the perfect tool for study, like an endless book to write in. With Drawboard, marking up pdf files feels just like having a printed copy. What is far from endless is the battery life though, don't expect to use it for a day without a charge or two. This wouldn't be such a problem if Microsoft had added a USB C port to… Read more

charge from so that we could use external batteries, or at least offer an external battery pack for it. The proprietary magnetic power connector is kind of cool, yet at the same time the biggest let down with this device. There are other annoyances to do with how mature the software is with respect to operating by stylus, but I'm noticing these are slowly being resolved. I've owned the machine for 9 months and not had any reliability issues. The build quality is great. The attachable keyboards are expensive, flimsy and unnecessary since you can use the on-screen keyboard far more conveniently. If you want to do a lot of typing, get a laptop. If you want an endless book to write in / organize and all your textbooks and pdf files in one place, this is currently the best option. It is a tad expensive but worth the extra

*Edit* After just over 1 year of ownership, an even bigger let down is the lag. When this thing is working well, it is awesome. But very frequently the screen becomes unresponsive to pen inputs and pressing the keyboard soft-button does nothing. Besides being annoying, this makes the thing useless for trying to keep up in lectures. Very often, the pen will also start missing the mark, being about a mm off from where the pen touches, so I'll have to write the same thing out over and over. I use this as a pdf markup tool, ebook reader and one-note for all my uni work. I think this device is hopelessly under-powered considering with only a couple of pdfs and one-note notebooks open, it becomes unresponsive like this, and this is the i5 version. I don't recall this happening when I first bought the machine. Perhaps it is a power saving update as I have noticed battery life seems to be a little better lately, but as the cost of usability this is not a good compromise. A better option would be to get rid of this useless magnetic power connector and give us a USB type C connector so that we can charge from an external battery. Disappointingly, Microsoft have not taken this option with the newly released surface, so I won't be upgrading any time soon.

A perfect office tool – It has a new mode of laptop, lighter than surface book ,more practical than surface laptop. It also has a perfect writing experience ,easy to use it when class and meeting.Plus, Onenote is perfect too, it help me save a lot of time. All in all, it is a very good office tool, however it cannot be used like a game tool.  Show details

Great device, great performance – Beautifully designed, very good for daily works. You might want to consider this product if you are a student or need some mobility for your work. The battery can last a whole day use in my situation.. Some application such as Chrome may reduce the battery life. Overall, great product!  Show details

Great product, power brick has known issue – I bought the surface pro for my use as a student last year. It's a really solid laptop/tablet and performs many task quickly and efficiently. The screen is solid and responsive to touch and pen input. When paired with OneNote it's a great note taking tool. The keyboard also makes things very flexible in input choice. Used sensibly, you can get a… Read more

lot of battery life out of it - internet use drains the most battery. Word processing and non-GPU intensive stuff means it usually gets pretty close to its advertised battery time on the go.

Material design is of excellent quality with premium finishes and fittings. It goes with me to uni everyday and has held up very well.

Compared to MacBook or other laptops, it's a dependable and versatile workhorse. Only downside is that it's not designed to be very repair friendly so an extra warranty might be a consideration (on top of the usual consumer guarantee). Price is high compared to third party vendors, but worthy a investment. If properly cared for, I foresee it could last a good 4-5 years of regular use.

The only grip is that power adapter has a known issue where the USB charging slot on the power brick can sometimes stop working - which it did in my case. I contacted Microsoft Australia and they shipped me a new adapter under warranty.

Best PC / Tablet I Have Owned – Surface Pro - Intel Core i5 / 256GB SSD / 8GB RAM (Middle of the range). I was looking for a portable computer for work that could replace my laptop and get rid of my ageing iPad at the same time. I chose the Surface (which now has a lot of competition) as after extensive research it felt the best equipped to be a PC/Laptop replacement option.… Read more

The only downside to the Surface are the add ons. Keyboard is separate. The pen is separate. I did get a deal and a half at JB Hi Fi as it was advertised on special, I was able to negotiate the pen and keyboad plus the device all for less than the retail cost of the device (shop around your deal is out there).

Power and batter is great for my use. Internet roaming, remote server log in and using standard office applications day to day. I get through most of the day, Note the batter guide is often based on watching video (I believe this is on-board files you have installed as opposed to Netflix streaming as this is quite chewy on the juice). I was swayed to the surface as my father-in-law had one and he is a fairly serious photographer and has been happy for years with his SP3 for his photo applications.

If like me you want to consolidate devices and want or need a Windows environment then this is for you (but for yourself still consider the Lenovo, ASUS and HP they all have good offerings if the SP price makes you choke on your breakfast ... I did score a great deal). The SP dockability was the clincher for me being able to simply connect to peripherals and split my screen on to a dual monitor (this was a must).

I packed away my older laptop 2 weeks ago now and I have not once felt lacking. No the SP is not great on the lap per say, but I never used my laptop on lap anyway. Yes the tabled mode is a bit cumbersome, but, the pen helps and you do get used to it like anything else.

EDIT: I have since added a Brydge 12.3 keyboard to the mix. This is enables you to really use your Surface Pro as a laptop. The Brydge is excellent quality and compliments the SP (they make them for other tablets too like iPad etc).

Fantastic product – Great computer! Whether you're using it as a laptop or a tablet, the Surface Pro is just brilliant. Bought to upgrade from my Surface Pro 3 and I'm just as happy with the latest model. Fast, great screen size and quality, good sound, does everything I need it to do. Would be nice if the keyboard came with the computer, but otherwise can't… Read more

complain. Windows 10 runs perfectly on it and it's great to be able to use all the touch/swipe gestures the operating system is designed for.
