Flexible for any environment – The best thing about the Surface Pro 4 is that it is so versatile and I practically bring it anytime I carry my bag. It is lightweight and fits perfectly into my Uni life routine going to lectures but also a great tablet/computer to use at home. Must buy the keyboard too to maximise the tablets multi-faceted features as an easy to carry tablet and… Read more

also as a work computer as the i7 processor is more than enough to run programs that aren't intensive games that drain the core processor. My favourite purchase of this year so far.

Great if you use it for work purposes – I recently purchased a Surface for work and can’t live without it now! It is great for note-taking and presentations, love the detachable keyboard and being able to transform the Surface between a laptop and a tablet. Unfortunately not the best for movies or photo-editing (screen reflects too much light).  Show details

Amazing Compatibility – I needed a device which is compatible and I can use it on the move with great battery life. Bought for work as I have to see lot of client presentations great value for money. I would recommend it to every one. only downside is to be little bit pricey.  Show details

Still the best working tablet in the market – Even though it has been replaced by a later model, SP4 is still one of the best devices available in the market. You can find many promotions nation wide on this product, The update is limited so you do not miss much by purchasing this product instead of the new SP.  Show details

Same as a laptop – I've always doubted buying a surface unless the company for me one. I should say despite using ultra heavy softwares day to day, I can't feel any difference between the surface performance and my previous laptop. So considering the small size and good performance, I can call it a full package !  Show details

Good tablet – Machine is fine when it is connected to a private network, however, on public networks it struggles and freezes. Surface Pro would be better with more USB ports and a port to plug in a network cable. Arc mouse is good but does lose connectivity with the Surface Pro on a regular basis.  Show details

3rd one coming next week to see if they can get it right! – I bought the Surface Pro 4 in March 2016 at a Microsoft store in California. It immediately started having both ghost scrolling and ghost touch issues. After hundreds of hours wasted on the phone with tech support (which is a nightmare on its own as the calls seem to end up in China and India after they have bounced around the Milky Way Galaxy 16… Read more

times so the sound delay allows for naps between responses) I was finally offered a replacement. Of course I was temporarily overseas so Microsoft suggested I fly back to the US to swap it at a store. Am I the only person that thinks that is ridiculous?

After ramping it up nearly to Bill Gates I was offered the opportunity to buy a new one, get it set up, mail in the old one for a refund. I did that and found the new Surface Pro 4 has ghost scrolling in Outlook (now we are in February 2017). After hundreds of hours of tech support not being able to fix it (but while I teach them things about their own systems (and I am NOT a technician) and their failed attempts at ridiculous solutions (i.e. I have 14 POP email accounts which Microsoft wanted to break out into 14 separate pst files to fix the problem...but I can't work in 14 Inboxes, 14 Sent boxes, 14 Delete folders, etc.) they have now offered me another Surface Pro 4 replacement (now we are in December 2017) which I don't want. I want a refund. Should I be subjected to hundreds and hundreds of hours of wasted time to help them get their computer working properly? Those technicians get paid to come up with terrible failed ideas, I don't.

Outside of this HUGE failing the product is great (if you have incredible vision and can deal with such a small screen). I am 20/20 corrected and it's too small for me (but big enough to see the constant ghost scrolling in Outlook).

1st laptop/tablet ever ad love it – Bought this a year ago after my bf recommended it to me. Has been in love since then. Weight is light enough for me to carry around in my handbag which is a big tick. I m not a smart computer/laptop user but for someone who watch drama online, social networking (eg Facebook, instagram), this is the best option. Time to fully charge the battery is… Read more

pretty fast and last quite long. Personally i think an extra keyboard is a must as it makes typing a lot more easier, hasn't use the pen much since I have got the keyboard.

So lite & small. Very convenient – Such a convenient little laptop/computer. We bought ours as we didn't want a laptop & didn't want a tablet. A great little tablet that you can take anywhere. I can fit mine in my handbag and go to work with it as I work in childcare & still study. It can hook up to your TV (have to buy a mircosoft cord specifically), easy to use and updated… Read more

windows software. We bought a heavy duty tabley case & keyboard from Harvey Norman as well & it all folds up really small.

Email program is HOPELESS!! – We bought 2 of these. Just under $5,000 worth. The email program is HOPELESS! I have seen many similar problems commented on various sites. I have spent many hours on with the help desk, who have taken over control remotely of both units, but can't get either machine to work properly. On each of the 4 occasions I have been on with them,… Read more

they promised to 'escalate' the issue and would get back to me. But NOTHING.

The main problem is trying to send emails, which makes it pretty useless to both of us. Having said that, receiving emails isn't great either.

Be very wary spending big bucks.

I've been close to chucking both in the bin! I am still using my old Toshiba. At least it's reliable!

MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED!

Surface Pro 4 16GB 256 HD – Better than a mac by far. The build quality is strong, the performance is good even though it does tend to over heat at times. If you're just checking emails and performing general tasks the battery life is great. If you're performing resource intensive tasks the battery will run out after about 3 to 4 hours. Really, it should come with most… Read more

accessories but you have to purchase them separately (just like apple do). In terms of performance though, it has to be the best. The RAM, SSD drive and CPU give brilliant performance.

Good portability but stability issues – I always keep the drivers up to date, but this model hangs more than any tablet or laptop I've ever owned. Battery constantly discharges when going to sleep, and the dreaded blue screen of death on resumption. The stylus is very good, screen is sharp and good battery life (when used constantly), the support of Windows Hello for passwordless logon is great too. Weigh up the pro's and cons as there may be cheaper more reliable options.  Show details

Excellent!! No more bulky laptops required – Brought this for use overseas seeing as it is much faster than traditional laptop. It is so fast and easy to use I have literally thrown my HP laptop in the bin! You can use as a tablet or laptop to replace your current. You will no longer have to wait 10mins for laptop to load basic windows!  Show details

Powerful, portable, replaces desktop! – This is a one-year evaluation and being very knowledgeable person in IT (I build my own desktop power beast OC i7 4700K,32G 3200Mhz Corsair RAM, Samsung Evo Pro 950 512G M.2 and GTX 1070 GFX, and the SP4 doesn't shy in comparison!) and also using the Surface Pro 4 extensively as I travel frequently, I can say with confidence that this is a great… Read more

machine.

Good Points:

- Powerful overall.

My SP4 is linked via 1 USB3 to a Toshiba Dynadock replicator port (which is worth 5 star review in its own right) and through it drives 2 Dell U2412M (1920x1200), a Corsair mechanical keyboard, an FPS mouse, a HD docking station with 2x2TB HD, cables to sync Kindle, iPhone and a Brother A3 printer and NAS via WiFi without any issues whatsoever.

- Good GPU/CPU:

I've run Diablo 3 (really) and Lightroom on it no worries. I also multi-task (gonna change that bad habit BTW) and have up to 20 browser tabs open over the three screens (2xDell +1 SP4) plus Outlook, Evernote, Word and Excel open at the same time, and never encountered any issues.

- Quiet.

At the onset and prior to a number of firmware upgrades there were times when the fan kicks in, which can be noisy. After 6 months (I purchased Feb 16) with patches, the noise level dropped down dramatically.

- Nice keyboard

This is a MAJOR plus. I was considering the MacBook but was turned off by the butterfly keys (well I do use a mechanical keyboard) which don't give me any feedback/travel. The iPad Pro keyboard is a joke too. The keyboard cover by MS however, feels great to type on (try it yourself) and the trackpad is very sensitive, making the typing and general use a pleasant experience. Haven't found anything else quite like it (and have tried a number of Logitech keyboards). Oh, and the keyboard is pretty tough and protects the SP4 well.

- Smooth operation

Again it was buggy at onset, with BSoD every few days resulting in a compliant and a 3/5 rating on MS site. NOW however, everything works like a charm. The facial recognition works even without light source and is fast and accurate. The touch screen is crispy, accurate and responsive to all touches, pinches and zooms, in desktop or tablet mode, this is even after I've put a tempered glass protector on (thumbs up to the screen protector co too).

- Tough

Although I haven't dropped it yet, I 180lbs, 6'2 guy) did sit on it by accident once when it is closed and sitting on my sofa. There's a patch size of an apple with some discolouring during the login phase, but which doesn't appear visible otherwise (I wonder why that's the case?, as normal LED with dead pixel would've shown no matter what). The machine works perfectly otherwise.

- OneDrive works wonders!

With a $2/month subscription, I have perfect synchronisation (50G) between my desktop and my SP4 for all my files. Lovely!

Need improving

- Pen is wasted

I am no artist but wanted to use the pen for handwritten notes during conferences. The pen is responsive (and can be lost easily from experience) but there is a dire lack of apps and integrations in Win 10, Office or App store to use the pen for note taking. My old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (gen 1) with a stylus has better handwritten recognition and apps. Evernote is also terrible at this given that I can't find this function in the premium version compared to the free version I used on my Samsung 5 years ago.

- Battery life is so-so.

Okay if I play 2K movies with the battery on saver, the battery will only last one and half hours - not even enough to finish the movie! For surfing and typing I guess it'll last 5~6 hours. It won't compete with the iPad here but then again it is a full machine.

- Charger is bulky

Surprised by the size of the charger given the small form factor of the SP4. It is a mini brick, and somehow only supplies enough power to the SP4 - when I plug in my iPhone to charge via the USB then the SP4 won't charge. Weird.

Overall with firmware updates, the SP4 has become a very beautiful and fully functional machine. You can get it now or wait for the next gen as most of the bugs have now gone.
