Miele – Built home completed in 06/2013 with a Miele Rangehood DA3490 installed. Rangehood began to work intermediately during the 7th year. When on to Miele’s website and requested a service. They referred on to a 3rd party authorised repairer. 3rd party repairer diagnosed issue but wasn’t interested in repairing said it was a difficult job. Range hood wasn’t fixed and still working intermediately.

This year, we went on Google and searched the question about the average useful life of a range hood and was quoted 15 years average.

Miele being an expensive premium brand, we expected the Miele Rangehood to function well for at least the average of 15 years at minimum. Well in my case fault started at year 7.

We reached out to Miele this year in 2024 and requested assistance to cover under Australian Consumer Law and was straight out refused. Miele customer service says the manufacturer’s warranty is only covering for 2 years and would not go further to assist. All repairs would be in owners cost.

Prsupport@miele.com.au did message me to allow me to express my concerns. Miele did end up sending a authorised Miele rep to service the rangehood. Has been working great since the service. Thank you Miele for taking the initiative to understand from a customer standpoint.

Never buy a Miele product again – Noisy as. Cannot even have a conversation when on. But wait until you have to change a light globe. Book your whole weekend out. Absolute joke. Considering have 90cm oven seal gets pulled out by door. Design fault 90cm convection hot plate Coffee machine. Seals constantly fail. Kombi oven. Display fails Washing machine. Actually washing would be handy Dryer. Don’t even use. Apparently damp is dry Will just add to the fail list

Great Quality German made product let down by high magnetic field motor for Australia – High Quality made unit, easy to install, very Quite and powerful suction for Australian version. However even though it has a German made EMPAPST D2E146-HS21-51 295W motor custom made for Miele Australian version. <1 approx 0.86 Watt standby power consumption. (not as we have no laws protecting us in Australia from High magnetic fields products I don't know the point of the CE marking as this would only comply in Europe for the same model fitted with the original 180W motor.

See explanation from Miele Germany below: (Australia really needs better product laws for health and safety)

On Max speed @ 30cm 52.5 mGauss that's a lot higher than standing under high voltage transmission power lines!

"Dear Mr X,

Thank you very much for your email.

We have contacted our experts from the Construction and Development department and got the following response.

Your mentioned directives are valid for Europe. Of course we consider these specifications for our appliances, which will be sold in the European market. Our products are certified according to the standards by an independent audit service, which is called DEKRA.

The norm will be measured at a distance of 30 cm. The limit value is 100 %. In general, our value is in the single-digit percentage area.

We don't use china-produced fan motors for our range hoods. The values of the hood models in the Australian version are generally higher than in our European versions because the desired air power in Australia needs a stronger fan motor. For this reason the EMF measurement is higher, but also within the limit of law and norm (which again is not applicable for Australia).

We hope this answer will be helpful.

Yours sincerely

X

Looks nice once in – I had high hopes for this rangehood when purchased. First, as it came out of the box there were hand prints all over it and marks from the cable all over the casing from where it had been swinging around in transit. I can handle that, I guess. Next comes the installation. It wasn't hard at all, which is great. However, the left side was slightly limp compared to the right, resulting in micro re-positioning of the bracket.

Finally, I had to adjust the sliding section forward by way of 2 small screws under the filter. No worries, I think, and what a great inclusion. Except - the bloody things were *behind* the stainless steel cover for the lights, and to unscrew them and therefore adjust the depth it began bending the casing. What a mess, and completely unexpected for a $799 unit. I ended up buying 'floor saver' plastic sticky things to bring it forward to where I needed it.

This unit does suck "ok", but most of the sucking seems to have been from the factory when they put it together and shipped it out. Clean look Poor packaging. Non-working adjustment
