Hi, I a TWM Millers Falls 40 ton wood splitter, the hydraulic pump is not pumping the right LPM as required. I live in Penrith NSW and require a repair - spare parts or replacement pump any ideas from any one.

I have an earlier 40 ton model with Honda 390 clone played up (after 10y) and replaced with another from Edisons started second pull but now realise that you need to do regular oil changes otherwise the decompression mechanism sticks. most important is it was a Club Cadet clone overall and have bought several parts from the US at significant savings

Hi, my rope came out of the starter, how do I get it back on, the manual does not show anything nor can I find anything on the net?

Michael K.
Michael K.

you purchase a new starter rope if rope is too short. remove 3 bolts on side of engine where starter setup is positioned. once you remove starter setup you will see a pulley which is spring loaded. to be honest its been a while since i replaced my rope and I cant remember what to do. I know its pretty straight forward. the main thing is you make sure there is enough tension on coil spring/pulley to pull rope back in after you go through the starting motion. replace the assembly back on engine in correct position. good luck here is an example I think. I haven't sus it out completely. external link

What is the best way to fill 40 ton splitter with engine oil

Michael K.
Michael K.

there are a couple off ways to do this. Make sure splitter is on level surface. remove oil filler screw cap. I use a funnel with a piece of clear tube fitted. (Make sure tube is a tight fit in the small end. sometimes a bit of tape to seal the tube to funnel is needed) then bobs ya uncle. top oil up and put cap back on nice and tight...

My 40T millers falls log splitter will only run with the choke on about half way! If I turn the choke off it surges until it stops (in a few seconds), I’ve drained the tank and carny and refuelled, but it still does it! Any ideas?

Michael K.
Michael K.

By running it with choke basically means the engine is running to lean. this could be because the jets in the carby are blocked. could be shitty fuel. could be a number of things. Just draining the carby and tank removes dirty fuel but doesn't clean out the carby. If You have a local mower or chain saw shop ask their advice. They are pretty switched on....

what type of oil do these use

Michael K.
Michael K.

In the motor I just use a general small engine oil. A mineral oil. Not synthetic. Seems to work fine. I'm not home so I can't tell u exactly. But in 3 weeks I can. Let me know. I've never changed hydraulic oil. If I were to again I would use a good quality oil. Always use good quality oils. Cheers..

my 40 ton miller log wont start has sat for a while clean carb, new petrol new spark plug still wont start

Michael K.
Michael K.

Ok. as a mechanic I would first check to be sure you have spark. this can be checked by removing the spark plug and then while earthing the plug on a metal part of the motor pull starter lead and you should see a spark. if no spark make sure on/off switch is in correct position. Once I know I have spark I would refit everything. Then I would remove air filter and spray a little bit of "Start ya Bastard" down intake and pull lead. if it fires but does not continue to run then you know you have a fuel problem. sometimes after sitting for a while it just takes a little bit of luv to get the bugger going. I have had mine sit around for say 6 or more months. it usually starts on about the 3 pull. Obviously theres more that can be done but try this first. again make sure you have spark....

My 40 tonne millers falls stopped functioning this morning with the ram fully extended. The directional control valve still feels fine. Motor still runs of course. What do you suggest? Muz’

Michael K.
Michael K.

I'm not a hydraulics specialist. you need to find someone in the know. sorry can't help. (quick question. i know you say the motor is running. it is still turning the hydraulic pump???) I'm a motor mechanic so as long as all is connected as it should be i would try tapping the valve body. maybe some thing is stuck in a valve or whatever. there would be a number of things I personally would try but I wouldn't suggest non mechanical minded people to try these. please don't think i am insulting you. I just don't want to create more issues for you..... kind regards....

Do you sell the lifting arm for the 40ton wood splitter?

Michael K.
Michael K.

Hi There. I don't sell lifting arms for the splitter. Would be handy though.... For very heavy wood I stand the unit up and split vertical..
