completely failed after 43 thousand kilometers of driving. as of this date (12 January 2026), the vehicles' total kilometers is still 44K! Australian consumer law, as confirmed by John Cadogan and The body calling itself "Fair Trading Queensland", says that the manufacturer- Mitsubishi Motors Australia, is responsible for this failure under the 'Fair life expectancy' laws that govern everything sold from washing machines to triton utes. Mitsubishi Motors Australia though do NOT have policies that allow for this law- as they tell me anyway. {5x'kind regards emails'}

They have a time warranty that has expired and "GOODWILL/out of warranty consideration" policies they say they are BOUND by? The Good will policy apparently NECISITATES i pay, no mater how long it takes, to diagnose exactly what part of the cruise control system failed. The LAW requires they have a policy to recognize that i have a failure in a machine they sold that should NOT have happened at 43 THOUSAND KILOMETERS! I have offered to pay for the diagnosis IF it is found that in fact my red sheepskin seat covers have caused the failure, and they will have the car in their custody, so they can and would hold me to it!

Turns out, there was a way around their Policy Bonds, IF they are honest brokers. I submitted the vehicle for trade-in appraisal at 2 of their dealerships. BOTH , in writing, confirmed the vehicle was 43 thousand kilometers old. It has been serviced. The cruise control does NOT work! I did not expect this would work and of course it didn't. All my Tritons have been good vehicles, but i am unable to imagine an honest reason why they don't have a policy to comply with Australian Consumer Law? i am micheal Albert Dryer

Follow-up  · Q1. did the oil leak recur? That would have been part of the story if it did. Q2. What caused c.c. failure? Unknown - read the review again. Q3. trade in value. There is value and what they offered. Resale value is all i can afford to indulge and as the ute runs like new except for the C.C. it will be a wile i'd think before i find out.

Excellent 4X4 trayback Carries more in weight than a Landcruiser – We have used this ute on farm and for longer trips since new. It has 49000 kms since new (2019), carries 1 ton with ease and no loss of speed (100-120 kph) with that weight. Generally uses 11 litre per 100k.s (25 mpg)? whether loaded or not. The auto changes seamlessly and pick up is impressive if needed. Handles well on dirt though original tyres… Read more

(which were recently replaced with Wranglers) are not much good offroad. The 8 foot tray will fit a side by side (Polaris 570) without having to tow a trailer. Very minor mechanical issues. Mice can get into cab air intake. When filling with diesel keys dont like getting soaked as they will malfunction. I have owned Landcruiser tray backs and fuel use was a lot more and price about double so if the Triton lasts half as long as a Landcruiser go and buy two new Tritons and you wont be any more out of pocket.Fixed price servicing only good till 45k service and next service (60000 k's) will cost $1600 which seems excessive

Excellent turbo diesel 4x4 – I have a permanent daily work 2016 Triton. I also have a personal Toyota Landcruiser 100 series. I drive the Triton everyday and it’s really grown on me as an outstanding all around quality 4x4. My previous employer used Landcruiser 79 series with the V8, I find the Triton is a better everyday driver than the Landcruiser. Very easy highway touring… Read more

sitting on 1900 rpm in 6th at 110kph. It doesn’t quite have the towing or hard off-roading of the Toyotas but that’s what makes it so easy to live with. The most practical family and work vehicle I have ever had. I use low range for work on gas fields and rain soaked mud. It’s 4x4 is excellent, it isn’t going to win contests on articulation flex or ground clearance but if you don’t need hardcore lifts or axle flex don’t pay for it. Save money and keep a 4x4 with major touring manners. I run 600km a day on the Hume freeway for work some days and it’s a comfortable easy trip.

Fuel average at 8.6L per 100km on my set up. My only complaints are the seatbelt alarms when you start up, it gets old quickly. I would also put a larger fuel tank on if I owned it privately. Mitsubishi was too modest putting a 75L tank on it. 90L or 95L would be a lot nicer. Turbo lag is also very noticeable, unfortunately it’s there and no one can really be happy with bogging down on take off.

No faults so far at 57 000km, reliability is Japanese standard. A good all rounder for work and family. Saves major cash over some other makes. The Triton will do an excellent job and keep costs at a reasonable level. Put it on your short list.

Ongoing problems on a vehicle brought new – Brought second hand 2004 Triton 4x4 with only 18k km on it had it for 11 years no problems only had to replace clutch once. Upgraded to new Triton 4x4 late 2016, I've had to take it back for warranty repairs plenty of times, within a year 3rd gear slipping, electronics on steering wheel always playing up. Recently 4x4 lights flashing as well as… Read more

traction, won't go into 4x4, then when it finally locks in always 4x4 low and can't get it back to 2 wheel a nightmare. Door alarm is permanently beeping although all doors closed. Took it in today warranty covers 4x4 problem but not door problem had to be re aligned, never been in an accident and only 4x4 driving on road verges where I work so I had to pay for the dodgy door system and the usual response we've found the problem with the 4x4 we'll ring you when we get the part and you can take another day off work as we need your car at 8am. These people keep no spare parts onsite so any problem is always 2 visits and the reason you buy brand new running a business so you don't have these problems. The money I've lost from taking days off to get warranty repairs done, around 15% on top of purchase price, do yourself a favour and spend that 15% on a better brand of vehicle and save yourself a lot of hassle and dealing with these people who don't give a fck

Great ute for the price – I bought a 2018 MQ GLX+ Triton dual cab 4x4 on runout, it honestly wasn't my first choice ute at the time but my finances meant it was the only choice. Now I've done 50 000km in I couldn't be happier, the engine and gearbox are solid and it goes just fine four wheel driving, nothing heavy yet but I have built serious cars in the past and driven… Read more

crazy tracks, this car feels pretty good. Pro's It was cheap It's as comfortable as most cars Small turning circle due to short wheel base The small engine doesn't seem to lack power as it's figures suggest Cons Mitsubishi is now part of Nissan and Renault so I expect the service and quality of the vehicle and service to drop to the level of Nissan and Renault. Not a good sign......... The paint is rubbish The turbo and engine have terrible lag The head unit is awful to use, the sound is ok though The wheel base is short meaning the tray overhangs the rear wheels by way too much limiting the length and weight carried in the tray. It's pretty ugly

I gave it 5 stars because for the price you simply cannot beat this ute. The Ranger looks awesome, the BT50 looks ugly too but you get the 3.2 and quality at a much higher price. The DMax is tough as nails but basic inside and much dearer. I highly recommend this ute.

Rugged AND Comfortable – We purchased a 2019 brand new and have been very happy ever since. Drives like a sedan, but is a rugged 4X4 off road. Accessories are prohibitively expensive, but we got a good price on the ute when they were trying to close out last year and start moving the 2020 models. Not as quiet as a car, but it IS a diesel and not overly loud. There is a… Read more

bit of delay when taking off from a stop, so you need to account for this when crossing traffic. Highway suspension is great, but speed bumps are rough. The driver's left leg feels like it needs another inch or so of room to the side, but you get used to it. Driver visibility is good, but the rear view mirror does block some of the visibility in city traffic, particularly when it comes to looking out for pedestrians and other cars. You need to move your head downward to peer below it to get a thorough look. However, I find this to be problem with most vehicles these days.

Terrible Customer Service – Go in for a warranty claim for head unit completely dying, local dealer said all good, covered by warranty. Then get a call say sorry, out of warranty you’ll have to pay for it to get fixed, we’ll need the car, we’ll send the head unit away to get repaired (not replaced), can’t give you a time line and can’t give you a cost for the repairs either.… Read more

Quick 5 minute search of forums are you can see this is a fairly common problem and they clearly don’t want to own up they have a sub pair product! Oh and still waiting for Pacific Mitsubishi Gympie to actually respond in writing so I can take claim further. Get a Hilux instead, don’t have to deal with the crap of owning a Triton.

If you want a headache this is the Ute for you – Only positive is that it starts. Hasn’t even done 100,000kms and the AC has gone twice, clutch isn’t great either. Lights are terrible hit multiple Roos cause you can’t see a thing. Radio is fuzzy and cuts out if you have to turn lights on due to some wiring thing. I rely on it as a work vehicle, can’t be taking it in all the time to get things fixed. Show details

3rd) - fixed under warranty Average suspension for heavy loads After 7 years I need to get roof and bonnet repainted (clear coat is gone in spots), always left outside in the sun tho No great at towing near max loads Fuel economy is not the best 80kg roof load capacity My Pros: Value for money, compared to others at the time 10k less but with a whole lot more plus better warranty Nice enough to drive for a ute Simple without all the tech crap Very capable for its price Goes well off road with good tyres I have a manual so no turbo lag issue (auto is not so lucky)

Over all, be realistic with you expectations, install a catch can and keep it serviced and it will be a good little ute for a very long time.

Fuel cap issues – The car itself is great...but the fuel flap door will not open. It has taken 6 months already for them to order the part which is still another two weeks away.
