We initially contacted MSC Electricians for an emergency electrical call-out and engaged them to carry out extensive electrical work at our property. We paid a significant amount, believing the work had been completed safely, professionally and in accordance with Australian electrical standards and code. Approximately three years later, another… Read more

electrical fault occurred. A different licensed electrician inspected the installation and advised that the previous work had not been completed correctly or in compliance with the required electrical standards. The old cotton-insulated wiring had been left in place and connected to the new switchboard wiring instead of being properly replaced or rectified. This resulted in sparking and created a serious electrical safety hazard for the tenants living in the property. The quote from the new electrician is approximately the same as the amount we originally paid to MSC Electricians. The entire switchboard now needs to be replaced, along with all wiring from the mains supply to the switchboard, to ensure the electrical installation is safe and compliant. While I am extremely disappointed that this work has had to be redone at considerable expense, I am relieved knowing that the tenants will finally be safe from any further electrical hazards once the replacement work is completed. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend MSC Electricians. Rate of experience is negative infinity. The work was very expensive, yet it has now required substantial rectification. Safety should never be compromised, particularly when it places tenants and property at risk.

A complete and utter rip-off. I also called them three times to receive an invoice with more details as our strata manager required and they did not return my calls. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Beyond expensive… and he kept a straight face – To be honest, from my experience the star rating is based on the outrageous total cost for works completed and the after service (trying to contact post works)…. I’m hoping the job itself is a 5 star…. But other than the fact it works, I can only hope it’s top job. I believe I was charged between 2-4 times the true cost of works carried out as I… Read more

mentioned the magic words “Ausgrid” and “defect notice”and called MSC on the emergency line. Ca- Ching.

MSC seem to use a number of trading names for both plumbing and electrical services. In this case the invoice was raised by GS Parker (with an ASIC address in Dural, and established in mid 2024)… but the technician arrived in a ElectriWizard van.

Learn from my misfortune:

1) always get a recommendation rather rely on the internet … preferably get someone that is truly local and has an address quoted on the quote/ invoice. 2) even if it’s an emergency, get 2 or 3 written quotes with a proper breakdown… the cost of replacing the entire contents of my fridge and freezers would have been significantly less than the price I overpaid in my rush to get the electric back on. Verbal quotes are no more than the beginning of an argument that you’ll likely lose. 3) level 2 electricians are expensive BUT should charge $120 ph on average…. Allowing for the sydney “tax” even $200ph -$250ph might actually be reasonable for emergency style work. Go through the quote line by line. Question everything… if nothing else you will be educated for next time. For example is a new ground/ earth (copper rod plus 3 metres of cable plus 1 hrs labour) really $1500+gst? 4) check with your insurance to see if such works/ repairs are covered (it’s unlikely but worth checking )… they even might have a list of approved electricians. In reality unless there’s been an electrical fire, the work will typically be seen by the insurance company as maintenance… although curiously the insurer will typically not be able to provide you with a suggested or best practice maintenance plan for anything level2 related!… I’ve asked! 5) don’t let the electrician start works until you are entirely satisfied with what you are getting and how much it will cost. Also, get an incident report with supporting before and after photos. 6) don’t feel intimidated…. You’re paying for a job, not asking for a favour! Even if the technician is built like a muscle bound bulldog, you should always feel that you can say no. 7) don’t be fooled by the no call out fee….

Regarding the after sales… the phone number on the invoice rings out and goes to voicemail… every time. And don’t expect a quick email reply.

When the email reply comes it’s typically full of “we didn’t say” incorrect facts and promises to investigate why the phone went to voicemail rather than answer the questions raised.

At the end of the day, I felt I was rinsed, taken for a mug so please learn from my mistakes

I just hope the thousands spent have resulted in a job done well…. We will have to wait and see on that one.

Got [Content Removed]. Do not use – Quoted under 300 for the job. Didnt fix the issue. Replaced three cheap switches and did a 5 minute scan in about 90 mins. Then when I paid I found out they charged me 2634.50 when they quoted under 300!!!!! And they falsified an invoice to match. Do not use. It’s a [Content Removed].

Rip off - avoid them!!!! – Never use them! They overcharge at least triple and take advantage of you when you are stuck in an emergency. We were substantially overcharged more than $2000 on a simple electrical job that took their technician no more than 45 minutes to complete. They also added GST and a call out fee to the bill stating that we accepted the costs which were never explained. All reviews would seem to suggest that this is how they operate.

Dodgy bros inc – Be very careful with this mob. ‘MSC’, ‘Your Local Electricians’, or whatever guise they use. Rang to query after realising I was badly overcharged. The lady I spoke to was straight on the defensive before I’d finished my sentence, which tells you everything you need to know about them. Steer clear.

BEWARE – Urgent power issue (18 months ago) was guaranteed fixed by this company. Now the problem is back. I cannot recommend them because they won’t return our calls - their work is overpriced and substandard/ faulty.

Beware - overcharges and rip off service – BEWARE! This company overcharge and take advantage of vulnerable consumers. Ensure any quote is itemised and clearly explained before accepting their services - we were substantially overcharged more than $2000 on a simple electrical job that took their technician no more than 30 min to complete. No compassion and ongoing accusations that we… Read more

accepted the costs which were never explained. From multiple reviews, this appears to be their business model.

Rip off – Avoid at all costs. This company promotes itself as local Blue Mountains Electricians, but they travel up from Sydney. Promised to arrive within 1 hour but took 5 hours to arrive. I was verbally quoted $2,500 to fix an outage, but once they finished they said it was $3,300 with no explanation. The system shorted out within 2 minutes after they… Read more

left. I ended up calling another electrician who said the work they completed would normally cost $1,000.

Absolute Rip Off – Was here for 35mins to refit a batten holder & secure an already installed power point. No quote provided. Eye watering charge, utterly shocked. When questioned he said that's what it is. Later rang the office to question the outrageous bill & was told that is the charge. Even left plastic bags and rubbish behind. Buyer Beware !! Also advertised as a local electrician - which they are not. Zero out of 5.

Best of luck with your experience with this service – Made an after-hour call following a storm as power to building cut out. No other nearby building-house seemed affected nearby. Advised must take call out fee immediately of $225 plus GST and electrician out in 1 .5 hrs. The electrician will call me when on site. Same reception calls back in less than an hour to say fault is a power outage and… Read more

ausgrid issue. Neighbour waiting did not see electrician at building site nor called. They must have did quick Ausgrid check. I would have expected firstly to be advised when I was explaining issue that after a large storm you can check if Ausgrid power issue simply by typing address on website. Furthermore I would have expected electrician to at least call me to advise issues and to check electricity meter and discuss plans re any issues once sorted by Ausgrid in morning. Next morning we learn our meter box had eight fuses blown and had to arrange a level 2 electrician to fix. Not an easy job. This could have all been sorted and had follow through with same company without what felt to me like looking for a quick buck service call out. The issue that greatly disturbed me and made me decide on posting was that when i called to complain and discuss my concerns the same operator stated she is the person to escalate my concern and she refuses to- This is the story of my experience with company or their multiple alias companies/trading names - you be the judge and best of luck!!

charge outragous prices and pay Google to boost their presence on the net. I ended up being charged $4400 for a switchbox replacement, maybe $1500 parts and $2900 labour for 6hrs work. Thats around $480 per hour.

Job was well done, but please get other quotes before using this company.

I was ripped off – Well where do I start , the thing is I did not see an invoice until after the job was complete and it was not from who I thought it would be , it was from another company and actually after further investigation I found they hide under a number of company names. I rang them after [Name Removed] had been out and had a look at the meter box,… Read more

replaced a blown fuse on the 3 phase and taped it off till a qualified electrician arrived . The problem was a entry wire had been shorted and blew the fuse, on one of the 3 phase . I rang the first company that appeared in my search because they said they were 24 hour service and would be out in an hour . So they guy arrives, many hours later ,takes a look and says I need to replace the main 3phase switch and the piece of wire .Then a little later calls me back and says I have to split a circuit and fit 2 more 20amps breakers ,plus I need to seal the box , he says there was water getting in and corroding the wiring in the switches, fair enough I say . It's gonna cost $690 to replace the main switch a little steep considering those switches sell for about $100.00 and take 15 minutes to fit , same with the 20 amp switches another 289.00 each , replace the wire about 1 metre $380.00 call out fee $190.00 which he didn't mention then he decides to not fit the switches just take out the two wires and split them to one 20 amp saving me the cost of replacing a brand new switch that was fitted a few months ago ,but then he says later he will replace to switch . So, it was all done in about 2 hours ,a bunch of wires changed around to lighten the load on the switches. Anyway, I'm expecting to pay around $1,000 to $1300 still a bit rich so he takes my card puts it through, takes my email address to send me the invoice . Check my email and the bill is over $2,600.00 how can that be I am on the pension where do I come up with that money ? Okay at this point I feel I have well and truly been ripped off .I thought I was dealing with The local Electrician but then I find out it's YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICIAN an entirely fabricated company pretending to be some one else but the bill came from this firm in Sydney . I have done the figures and the parts come out at $180.00 including maybe $5.00 for the piece of wire and I checked the 3 switches that were replaced and there was nothing wrong with them so that's over $2,000 for 2 hours work . you may as well just rob me, well they did but they are not going to prison. Oh I might also mention that I checked the price for replacing 3 switches and I have the quote $485.00 which came from a reputable Sydney Company . Then I took it a step further and referred the matter on to NSW Fair Trading and it seems this is not the first time this company has been reported. I can give you the list of companies that this company runs there are a few and all should be avoided. Just be aware of the fake reviews here if you check the facts you will see he has news article exposing him for who he truly is. Don' t touch him with a barge pole.
