Navman MiVue 358 Dash Cam Alternative Windscreen Mount – As the Navman MiVue 358 windscreen mount is no longer available as a spare, I am including a photo and information for anyone interested. A Garmin Nuvi 1.7 cm ball joint windscreen mount (or unbranded) can be purchased for under $10 on eBay or other online stores. My original mount broke from UV exposure, and I am currently using the spare for over 2 years now andit is working OK. Show details
Total rubbish – I purchased a mivue gps/dashcam a couple of years ago used mostly as a dashcam and as such it was very good Had occasion to use it as a gps yesterday. Second or third time. Started off good but after about 5 minutes it crapped out and left me stranded in the middle of Wanganui. It decided i wanted to go to Te Aroha about 370 k away in the wrong… Read more
direction. It then froze up and wouldn't let me use it at all
Threw it in the rubbish
Very disappointed. I am a member of NZ Motor Caravan Assoc i'm sure their 60,000 members will be interested
Total crap.
Works fine but needs improving – My Navman 358 works fine, battery is terrible so mine is just continuously plugged in to 12v power supply, the wire is hidden across the top of the windscreen and down the a pillar and then go's under the dashboard. ( motion detection works continuously when parked) After about 2 weeks the suction cup let's go, so I just re-lubricate the suction… Read more
cup when cleaning the car once a week. I use a 64gb card which records 1 week. I'm pretty happy with it, I've recorded lots of idiots with it, and given the footage to police all number plates clear in both day and night modes. I love it when someone does something stupid and then they realise i have a camera, all always gets me.
No bad for the money.
Rubbish mount – After a short time the camera mount suction cups has yet agin failed. Fourth new mount!!! Navman tell me not to leave it on the screen on a sunny day, which means in WA it will spend its life in my glovebox. What's the point of a crash cam that mustn't be attached to the car screen.
Naveman What were you thinking ! – It freezes, stalls and wont respond to any button pushing you care to do . Limited options makes a funny noise when you start the car Basicly Navman its a disgrace ......Wait its working ,,,noppe stoped again ,I cant help thinking the marketing dept of navman rearly have a dud on there hands
No sound – Have had 358 for about 11 months now and was under the impression that when recording sound was also recorded maybe not a big deal for some but for me I felt ripped off picture quality isn't that good either records in 5min intervals
Using two the 358 and the 388 – Just on twelve months now, 358 for the rear and 388 for the front. The only problem has been with the over priced dick smith branded memory cards. Eventually had dick smith refund them, first they sold me class 5's which they replaced, then the class dick smith branded C10's became write protected. Took them back when they failed and got my money… Read more · 3
back. Now using Sandisk C10 32gig without any issues. for 6 months or so.
They cameras work as advertised, simple to set up and use. The only problem is that sometimes for some reason, the 388 drains the battery, then when it boots up it wants the date time reset before auto recording... bad programing as it gets date time from GPS once booted. Only happened a few times in the last year so its not that big of deal. All in all very good product. I've recommended them to friends who have purchased and are still happily using them.
MiVue 358 – Bought the camera and set up how I wanted it and fitted to windscreen. Cannot fit it behind rear view mirror (Holden Commodore). Tried it out for a day but had to buy a card reader to view files. Everything worked excellent, day or night vision. After 4 days it turned itself off and never worked again. I checked charger to see if that was at fault… Read more
but it was ok. Returned it to Harvey Norman and they are going to replace it when new stock arrives. I cannot give the MiVue a bad review as I didn't have it long enough but will definitely exchange it for replacement. May have just been a faulty unit. Its size, price and performance. Cannot remove it out of its mount once fitted. You have to take the whole mount and unit when leaving the vehicle.
Its ok – Same as ol mate, its drops its bundle now n then. The functions (GPS) are what attracted me. I have to admit though, the cable flapping around is annoying. Yes I have jammed it where I could, still takes up the 12v socket permanently though. It about a year old now I guess. I want one I can hardwire into the car. I have a troopy, and am… Read more
fitting O'Head console, it will be a snack. just unsure of cutting a power cable and rewiring it myself, ( Poof $400 ) Bwahhhhhh. There are others that can be hardwired.. Google it,,LOL,, Google is th Oracle :) GPS The repeated need to reboot and enter time date, the cable flapping about
MehVue 'software' for the patient Windows 7 user – It was Christmas, after buzzing through my other presents, I eagerly tore away the packaging to reveal this teabag sized marvel, I could hardly wait to see this magic camera box in action, but a two hour charge saw me frantically woofing down Christmas dinner before I could mount it in the car. Suctioning the mount behind the rear view mirror, and… Read more
flicking the 'on' switch yielded a disappointing 'off', until my 16GB micro SD 'X-Mas surprise' was forthcoming. Hastily inserted, it was 'go' time. Recording my personal conversations in the process, this electronic sole-catcher recorded my fellow Perth drivers' ineptitude in breathtaking 1080p clarity. Sadly, this is where the 'half phone' sized marvel's limitations started showing. Swiftly shutting down the MehVue belied it's willingness to leave the cradle, sadly I was in for a Herculean struggle the like of which should not be witnessed by the small or infirm. During my heaving, prizing, sweating, and swearing, I somehow managed to switch the limpit back 'on', fearing remedying this would ease my vice like grip on the electronic barnacle, I persevered, only to pop the SD card out (cautioned against in the manual) I was later to find that this accident would cause the previous two hours of stunning driving competency corrupt. A final fool-hardy tug released my device from it's chosen resting place, holding it up like a golden chalice, it was now time to see the fruits of my labour.
After realising I'd corrupted the past two hours, a hesitant snap mount, drive, and subsequent wrestle saw me plugging my 358 in to the trusty Windows 7 computer. Like so many before it, this device promised easy access and navigation. The 'MiVue' software ensured this magic box was not going to give it's secrets up that easily. It would be easy for me to summarize using this software as 'a hopeless waste of time' or 'freezes more often than Birds Eye' but with nearly twenty years of technical support I wasn't going to give up that easily. Three computers, countless codecs, and two versions of the software later, and I'm now closer to questioning my own existence, than I am to viewing my on-road exploits.
I feel compelled to give this three stars as I was at least able to view the video (sans g-force), using my trusty Media Player.
Separately, I would give the 358 four stars, as the screen stays on all the time drawing the current of a small supernova, and the software a generous 0 stars. good resolution, works out of the box, blood wipes off easily requires 'the hulk' to remove from mounting, MiVue software 'a hopeless waste of time'.
Navman MiVue 358 – Great product. Video quality (1080p) is amazing during the day, and it even holds up quite well at night. Very easy to use, just route your cables, attach to windscreen, plug in and forget. The start/stop with ignition and autorecord work fine - never have to touch it. I've had mine for 3 weeks now and have almost forgotten about it, yet its… Read more
still there doing its job. I set it to switch off the screen after 3 minutes to avoid distraction while driving.
The cable for power is nice and long for routing along the roof line and down the side/door, under your dash, and into a 12V plug. Would be nicer if cable was thinner though, would make it easier to hide. The clips they supply in the pack are'nt very good though, fell off very easily, though I bought some from Bunnings as they did the same, so perhaps I need to find a better quality clip elsewhere.
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase (I paid $147 at JBHIFI). I did in fact recommend it to a friend, and he got one from eBay for $140 posted with an SDCard. They are expensive at the moment due to lack of stock, so don't pay $199, just wait until it goes down in price a little.
Also, I'd like to say - reading the two bad reviews here, I'm not sure if people are reviewing the product or their capacity to use the product...! Though I guess that is common with consumer reviews... some of them make me cringe! High quality video, solid device, reliable, easy to use, just works! Power cable could be thinner, and the clips they provide are not great.
