I've had my my400 for 14 yeqrs now approximately and I invested in the road and trail maps. The battery is still the original one the mount doesn't stick to the windscreen so I screwed it to the dash.I rarely use it as I know where I'm going and… Read more ·  2

there are signs but if I want to get to an address it gets me there. The update feature stopped working about 10 years ago so its not even worth installing the software on the computer would love it to be updated to the new road and trail maps. The one thing I hate is the light background as in sunlight the maps can't be read.

Follow-up  · I have noticed however the screen is fading now and is very hard to read in daylight

Navman freezing – Updated the maps and now the GPS is nothing short of useless. Got tired of resetting it due to it constantly freezing and relied on the old fashioned way--a road atlas. terrible product-never again would I buy a Navman GPS

Works well but cant update with free maps since purchased – Have had this GPS for some years now and am happy with it practical use. However I have never been able to update its software as the Navdesk feature DOES NOT work with my IMAC - neither my old or new IMAC will open once the software is installed - it continually 'unexpectedly quits' every single time. Would love to hear if others have had the same problems. Navman have lost my business, which is a shame, as it is a good device otherwise - most frustrating exercise ever.

been to the UK twice, and up to Queensland, lots of times, never missed a trick. I love it – The maps for Australia and the UK have never let me down. It's simple to update, no problem installing it in my car. Yes, in the heat it does tend to fall off, but mainly when the car is parked on a very hot day. The writing would be better if it was a font larger, and bold. Problem for me is when we left the hire car in the UK, I left my mount… Read more ·  3

Quality product with regular updates – Using MY400LMT for more than 4 years in Melbourne Victoria, still working with out any issue and getting updates regularly, build quality is good. Though the dash mount falls in summer because of heat, it is still good when compared to my dash cam dash mount. Regarding speed limits it some times show old limits. It would be helpful if there is any quick way to notify navman about the changes we notice to make limits accurate.  Show reply

Not Anything Like What The Negative Comments Are Saying!! – I bought a MY400LMT from Dick Smith at Macarthur Square and it works perfectly, I purchased it in mid October 2013 and it is now the end of January 2014. I don't know why there are so many negative comments on this product, it works flawlessly for me, although the speech recognition needs updating to actually understand what you are saying. … Read more ·  1

There was one glitch that I do remember though, and it was when I reached a destination but drove passed it a couple of times trying to locate it, (one of those places that are hidden from the naked eye) at which point it started to direct me back the way I originally came from, which was almost 20km away, I had to turn around before that and manually look for the location myself.

I haven't tested the Bluetooth fully to the point of answering phone calls, but I have successfully connected to my iPhone 4S and retrieved the phone book and paired it with my device.

In terms of speeding alerts, traffic conditions, congestion, speed camera's, red light camera's, telling you to use a specific lane to get ready to make a turn, the time it will take to get where your going, the distance you have left to travel, locations like fuel stops etc.. all works fine.

The look of the maps is not to a graphics artists standard but they are good enough to easily understand and very clear to view, with plenty of notice before making turns etc.. (I didn't by this unit for the best graphic designing, I bought it for being the best at navigation).

The navigation voice is clear and loud (but fully customisable) so you can easily navigate whilst glimpsing upon the unit from time to time, for example: it will say turn left at the traffic lights up ahead in 500 metres, then once you are within about 5-10 metres it will say turn left now, I find this a good feature to limit confusion for navigation when coming up to difficult cross intersections of closely built streets.

I think this will be good enough for a review of this item, the only reason why I put a bit more detail is because there are so many negative comments on this product, oh by the way I'm from Sydney which is where I purchased this device.

I recommend this device for those of you deciding whether to buy one or not.

Hope this helped in your decision. Fast and easy navigation, fast GPS refresh rate, quick speed zone alerts. Speech recognition to understand words clearly.

Not happy... Can't update the map, however it claims to provide lifetime map update – It is roughly working with the old map. But can't update maps at all. Tried all possible ways but still no luck. Why buy a GPS when Google maps works better – Bought this unit to take overseas. Worked reasonably well in Australia although - 1. Always took up to a kilometre of driving before it picked up GPS signal 2. Voice commands worked when they wanted to 3. When voice commands did work, told me I was approaching red light cameras even when I was on the freeway 4. Unable to sync with computer… Read more

(more about that later)

Took the unit overseas and bought a map of the area I was going to. Had to download their syncing program onto a friend's computer (remember I was traveling overseas - no computer to hand, just my smart phone). GPS unit did not sync with computer. Even their tutorial screen shots did not align with what was on the computer. Unable therefore to activate the map and unable to sync the map with the GPS.

The Navman system of using a computer to sync with the GPS is cumbersome, time consuming and utterly useless, especially if you are overseas. If my Fitbit can automatically sync with my smart phone via Bluetooth and then automatically and seamlessly update my stats to view on my home computer why can't this application do that.

Resorted to using Google maps on my smart phone which was much more convenient, easier and with no mucking around with computers. Downloaded maps with the hotel wifi and used them offline while driving.

Sad experiences with Navman – We have two Navman GPS units. Both have failed. The MY400LMT battery failed. The second (larger) Navman unit also suffered battery failure... and then lost sound completely. Support (Manila) has been useless, dismissive and unhelpful. I see the MY400 has been replaced by the MY600LMT... but why would I repeat this painful experience? While we like Navman _when it works_ these units just repeatedly fail... .

Misrepresentaion – This unit was advertised as having Free Lifetime Maps. I attempted to download these FREE maps and was asked to buy an unlock key at $140. What a con ? As though this was not disappointing enough the unit gives wrong directions and often displays a flash screen . Waste of money! – The maps were utterly useless, direction given when driving to a location were either too late (as in you have already driven past the exit when it directs you to exit) or it took you in the complete wrong direction. Don't Buy One – Maps Ok but if there is a side road parallel, it always thinks I'm on it. Speed limits in country are way out, automatically assumes 110km/h. Battery life sucks. It is not capable of charging and running at same time. Charge it up overnight and have it plugged into cig lighter whilst driving, goes flat in ONE DAY of driving. Absolute Crap.

Works, good at first, not now! – I just thought I'd let you know how dissatisfied I am with this unit & the programming used. Every time I do an update, the usefulness of this device is diminishing. displays after I've already driven off, should I then stop, put the hand brake on, acknowledge this just to get it going again, I think not.

Another example, the speed limits indicated on most streets & roads are not only wrong but ridiculous,120 km/hr, really? driving next to a shopping centre, 10 km/hr, rendering the next important function of this device useless as it is often alarming for no valid reason, hence being ignored. As for navigation, not knowing Melbourne very well, I get put in some very odd locations trying to get around.

I doubt I'll be buying another Navman, ever.

P.S. I also have a Gamin & while it often warns me not to operate it whilst driving, it has the good sense to go into navigation mode when I drive off.

The Weakest Link – The mounting bracket is the poorest design. It is so fragile that it breaks easily, more so after only limited usage (six months to a year). The expensive GPS unit itself is good, but the mounting bracket when it snaps off, makes the entire system useless, and where can one buy a replacement bracket. And at a reasonable price? Note the GPS is… Read more

Worst GPS ever – Stupid road selection, so hard to operating feel like first version touch screen in 1980s. Extremley slow for searching and loading, poor signal even in garage, of course lost leading in the middle of tunnel and not showing which exist to go. Seemed like a Good Idea at the Time – What a load to crap! I purchased MY400LMT in April 2014 & it stopped working after 6 months - sent to Navman for repairs - returned & told that they couldn't find a problem. Worked for about 12 trips then stopped working 54kms into my 299km trip, flashing on and off, then a blank white screen, then nothing. I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTER NAVMAN AGAIN! Good at first, then wait and see – Was a great little unit for the first couple of trips. minutes away because of the navmans constant use of the nearest highways. GPS speed was very accurate, since my speedos out i had to rely on this and it was great. That being said with further use of this device GPS signal would take longer and longer (in the middle of the country, nearest tree 2kms away & signal took 15mins to be found). The battery life is poor & the day & night screen settings are difficult, even more when set to auto setting.

Sometimes half way through use it would go completely black or white & sometimes only way to fix is to let battery die - Each time this happened the troubleshooting steps on the navman site didnt work. Now left with a navman that turns on and off constantly every 2 secs... At least theres a 24-month warranty, but if it cant handle 6, long trips (+3 hours) i have doubts about its performance & am staying clear of this model.

My wife told me not to by another Navman but I did and now I am in the dog house (again) – I read the reviews and did the research. My old MY50 lost its voice years ago and I never could update it. It thought goat tracks were major highways and speed limits were very arbitrary. So I got told..."NO NAVMAN" Well I bought a 600LMT from the Good Guys, unpacked it registered it and charged it without mucking about. I installed the software,… Read more

or so I thought. But It would only go so far and then the screen would freeze. I tried all day to get it to work but nothing! Always a black rectangle with a loading bar stalled about 25% in.

I read advice including that from Navman and did what was suggested and....nothing.

I read the very tiny, very fine hard to read coloured print on the box and.......there was a clue. The Navman is for Windows XP or higher! Well I have Windows 7 64 bit. That is higher...right? So check, check!

So it should work and it should be able to be updated.

But it just sulks and stalls. Ok, Then I found a Navman site and there......there it says this..."........compatible with Win 98 (SP2) Win 2000, Win XP (SP2) Vista, (32 bit or less) Win 7 (32 bit and 64 bit) and Windows 8 (32 bit and 64 bit).

Well I have Win XP (SP2) and it does not work on that! It does not work on my wife's Asus Win 8 64 bit. It does not work on my Toshiba win 7 64 bit.

Now on another bit of paper from Navman.... it says quite clearly " You must have a Windows based PC to run this software. NavDesk is compatible with Windows 7 / XP/ Vista with internet access. Please note that XP, MCE, XP64 and Vista 64 are not supported.

So......confusion. In any case, the software seems fraught with problems and others have found the same despite considerable advice from the "Techsperts". One site listed all sorts of patches and downloads and the poor customer must have been going out of his mind. It should not have to be like this at all. What of those people who are not in the least "computer savvy"? I am fortunate because I have had 44 years in computing and have knowledge. But this rubbish software beats me. Did it pass ANY compatibility tests or did they just say "She'll be right mate" and had another pizza?

I am returning this to The Good Guys and go with my gut instinct which was to buy a Garmin.

Navman.....come on, shape up this is not good enough! Not recommended at all

Sent the MY400LMT off to be repaired on 4 November 2014, Got the MY400LMT back on about 12 November 2014. According too repair paperwork enclosed the battery was replaced.

The MY400LMT was working fine until Christmas Eve, when it ceased to work, just as we were going away to visit family for Christmas. The MY400LMT started up the screen again went to a couple of thin white lines and then died. As before the MY400LMT would not start up or charge.

The MY400LMT lasted approximately 42 days after being repaired. Will again be organising for it to be sent away to be repaired.

I wonder how long it will last after it gets repaired this time?

I wish I could get a Navman S30 with "Spoken Safety Alerts", "Bluetooth", "Voice Destination Entry", "Live Traffic Updates " and all the other features of the MY400LMT.
