Nikon Coolpix P520

Rubbish – Purchased a P520 & paid approx $900 4-5 yrs ago. The main board now needs replacing but I have been informed by 2 repair stores that parts are no longer available. Has not lasted long for the price. Hence I would NOT buy ANY nikon camera EVER again as they are a rip off. Show details
Nifty, neat and Noice – Bought this camera in 2014 and it continues to be our number camera. Neither of us are avid photographers, so this camera helps us to take very nice pics. A lot of people in our social circles have commented how awesome some of our pics are. There’s so much to the camera, we’ve yet to go through all of it via the manual and hands on. I’ve… Read more
watched a few how-to videos on YouTube and its helped heaps. I like the colour of the camera, I chose maroon and it looks stunning. Pretty solid build, but I wouldn’t test its durability. The zoom is awesome, taking pics from afar is great, especially with a tripod to stabilise the zoom even moreso than the internal stabiliser.
I wouldn’t upgrade to DSLR I’m happy with this one as I’m only a novice, and taking pics on my smartphone is good for some things but when I want decent pics I have to use my CoolPix.
It is great but not the best in the low lighting situation – On the Nikon P520 I notice that in the low lighting condition the image is not the best compared to others I know. BTW some other reviewers think it is ok in low lighting. The 42X zoom is great. The battery capacity is a bit under-spec for the size of the camera (suggest always carry a spare battery). Intuitive to use and it is not too… Read more · 1
difficult to jump in without reading the manual. Camera seems to struggle in Auto Focus sometimes, especially in low light, don't know why, may be something I do not know yet (ie need to read manual). Overall it is nice camera with great features for the price.
Great all rounder – I bought the P520 in January 2014 and have used it in many situations from a poorly lit wedding venue to Fraser Island and am very impressed with it. The extended zoom capabilities are great allowing some amazing close ups - just note that the auto focus is woefully slow at full zoom - and at closer range it can pull in lots of light making it… Read more
easy to use indoors.
The HD video is excellent quality rivalling movies shot on much more expensive equipment (chews the battery though) and overall the image quality, including stills, is remarkable.
I have a couple whinges - the slow auto focus; I find the menu system difficult to navigate through as a casual user (I forget what is where and it takes me ages to re-find some functions); as an SLR user I tend to use the viewfinder rather than the screen and the image quality of it is poor and at full zoom the image in the viewfinder doesn't always match the image captured so you cut heads off and the battery life can be woeful if you're using the LCD screen AND videoing.
Overall though a remarkable camera for the money and, as long as you aren't trying to capture fast action shots, a very capable substitute for a DSLR and it's accompanying lenses.
Fantastic purchase – Bought a Coolpix 520 camera amazing zoom capabilities and clarity of pictures. This camera is light so easy to carry and I bought a red one so it stands out. I also like being able to zoom in on pictures after they are taken on the camera. This camera is so easy to use. So easy to usse
