Nutra-Life Green Lipped Mussel

At 66yo with a bunch of health complaints I've come to experience many different supplements. This is the only one I've bothered to review, due to how positive I feel about it. I could list a bunch of things that have improved etc, but it's likely that each of us will have a slightly different experience. We are after all, different right down to the DNA level. If something works for a great percentage of people, it's obvious that we should be sharing this information. I expect that the major thing that this supplement contributes is high levels of Omega-3, without large amounts of Omega-6. I'm aware that Omega-3 is important in the transport of various things in the blood. When you have conditions such as ESRD, diabetes etc (your body may experience more challenge in keeping up necessary transport of things in the blood. Let's take ESRD for example. Most with end stage renal disease experience edema, which has the effect of limiting the transport of fluids within the body. The result is often swollen ankles, shortness of breath. What I'm seeing after taking 3x of these per day for 2 months, is greatly increased "refill rates" during hemodialysis. You see, one of the things that hemodialysis does, is to remove excess fluids in the blood. Hemodialysis sessions are of limited duration, and thus you have perhaps 4 to 5 hours to get out excess fluids from your body. It's not just blood, as only a small portion of excess fluids are in blood. The excess fluids need to be transported from the various places in you, into the blood and then taken out in the hemodialysis machine. Before starting this supplement, the most fluid I'd ever been able to get out in a 5 hour session was just under 3 litres, typically accompanied by cramping due to removing fluid faster than blood can be refilled from the cells. Yesterday my session was only 4.5, yet 3.65 litres was removed without cramping at any time. No doubt you don't have ESRD, or even CKD. The point I'm making is that I have numbers for the positive things that are happening to me, due to taking this supplement. I should also mention that at least one kidney cyst has burst after around a month of taking supplement. This had the amazing effect of temporarily increasing my (pathetic) kidney function. While I'm hoping that this will happen to more cysts (I have ADPKD), this would be a "long shot". I don't for a moment think that helping ESRD is all that this supplement can do. The human body is far more complex than we'll realise for decades if not centuries to come. Meanwhile, I see this as one supplement I won't be stopping anytime soon.
Follow-up · Q: How did you track the changes in your hemodialysis refill rates? A: I use a Fresenius model 5008 and occasionally model 6008 for hemodialysis. On these units, the screen can be turned so that the patient can easily view. These models clearly show relative blood volume with low enough latency that refill rates can be ascertained. You can do things like position chair to different angles and see your refill rates change within a minute or so. Since writing this review I've started having "broccoli sprouts" daily, which has increased refill rate even more. It's gotten to the point that I'm shortening my dialysis sessions from 5 hours. I originally insisted that my sessions extend from their original 4 hours up to 5 hours, to provide sufficient time for fluid removal. In the last few sessions, I've reached fluid target by around 3.5 hours. Dialysis session time is not just about fluid removal but toxin removal as well. I do believe that the broccoli sprouts increase refill rates of toxins, I'm not aware that high levels of Omega-3 contribute to this. While I don't expect that I'll be able to take extended holidays from hemodialysis, I'm confident that shorter sessions will become the norm for me. At the time my kidney cyst burst, the first thing I knew was that I had a lot of blood in my urine, that continued for a month or so, although not every day. Other supplements that I've had and continue to have daily include magnesium, zinc, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and "Mega B" combined vitamin B capsules.
