Olympus Mju 5010

Bad – This has to be the worst camera I have ever purchased and I will be going back to the more reliable and user friendly Canon. I have only had the camera for 4 weeks and have been completely frustrated with so many aspects of it. Small, lightweight and compact. Video quality is very high. Price is reasonable. Not much about this camera I have liked to be honest. Poor battery life, slow response, night shots are not very clear, images are often distorted after using the zoom lense, operating buttons are way too small - often takes several attempts at powering up because of this. I have also received an error message when taking photos saying the camera is 'busy' and therefore it does not respond. Also when downloading images onto the PC it is either very slow or non responsive.
Bad – If compared to Canon IXUS 80is, I would prefer Canon eventhough it is 8 mp but would use the Olympus as a backup. Would now go back to Canon IXUS series anytime as the colors are brighter and softer. Canon Ixus series is really easy to hold with one hand. Should go and compare the both of them in the shop before buying. I too bought this camera from JBHifi with a 15% discount from sale price as this Olympus is 14 mp with 5x optical zoom. My current Canon Ixus 80 is only a 8 $mp.
Pros Cheap, 14 mp 5 x optical zoom in built 1 gb memory 8 mp, rechargable through usb Like the other reviewer, hard to see in sunlight, hard to hold in one hand to take pictures.
OK – This camera has some brilliance to it , 14 mega pixels, really good zoom and lots of settings. It takes a very good photo and is very light, tiny and oh so compact that you can't help but like it physically. But the real downer is the LCD screen which is hopeless and this lets the camera down by making it incredibly frustrating. It is near impossible to take a photograph if you can't see what you are aiming the camera at. How this LCD screen ever made it onto this camera is a massive oversight in quality control....or common sense. If you take mainly indoor photos you probably will love the camera and it is a good camera, just one that is incredibly and infuriatingly flawed. Very small, light and takes good quality photos. There are lots of setting to play around with and if you read the book you may actually be able to work this camera. I recently took it outside to take photos of the beach and sky which would have been great if I could have seen anything I was pointing the camera at. The LCD screen is utterly useless in daylight... you just aim and hope for the best. I am quite disappointed because I have owned two other Olympus cameras and this has not been a problem. I also find the camera difficult to use regarding finding settings....and as I have said, I have had two similar cameras and no problems with either so I don't know why this one needs to be so convoluted in its use.
