Cools down very quickly – This unit cools down the room so quickly. I live in Bundaberg with extreme heat and humidity in Summer and I can get home from work turn it on and in 15 min the room is cold. Install was easy comes with window slider etc. Used some ply wood and electrical tape to ensure everything was completely sealed. Unit is quite loud but I dont mind as it… Read more ·  1

blocks out the noise of my noisy neighbours. Come winter when we no dont use it we struggle to get to sleep without the hum of the air con.

Best on market – Easy to install and found it very cold even though sales person tried to get me to buy more expensive brand as said it would only cool small room.not true as live in unit and does lounge and dinning and is quiet and never had to empty tank, even bought second for bedroom, Do not buy portacool as waste of money and hard to return in some stores.  Show details ·  2

Early days, but Excellent so far – This unit cools fantastically well. I took salesman advice and installed exhaust pipe out window. This enables most effective results. Performance is excellent. Yes it is a bit loud but not surprisingly given its converting hot/humid air into cool with 10 amp 240v plug in unit. I am looking to buy another for the lounge room.

Terrible OAPC16 4.7kw – I bought this aircon in 2012 the 12th of december, after the exact 2years of use, which is the period covered by warrant it has become a useless giant unit in my room. I bought from BingLee( Fairfield) at $560. if I try to turn the unit on it starts producing cracking nose, then banging and final about to explode. I have children and I just hope… Read more

I'll get rid of it as soon as possible. Friends beware with these compony(Altise/BingLee) they suck you in to buy their products they now won't last and once they get your money then the relationship ends by then.

Time will Tell – I purchased this item just before Christmas. Yes, it is noisy even on the low setting. However Im a good sleeper so it doesnt keep me awake. Yes it does make a 'clunk' sound when the thermostat kicks in and out. Im keeping it on 18 degrees at present in which the large bedroom has never reached that low yet so no thermostat is kicking in or out.… Read more

It is on a lot as i dislike humidity, howevere judging by what I read on reviews I may not have this Air con for long!! Thats a worry. The extended warrenty may of been a good option to take. Cooling the room has been great which I would expect at 16000BTU. Also, note the directional blades are only operated manually. My previous one moved slowly side to side which I loved for air movement. Im hoping to stay cool for many many summers... well thats the plan!!

Worst thing we have bought – We are on our third unit now they have said if this one goes they won't cover it. 1st one clunking and it was just over 2 yrs. 2nd one only about 3mths clunking, scretching and blew up. 3rd one starting to make noises not even a mth old have to have it on continual 18 degrees so it doesn't cut in and out otherwise it makes noises. Not happy with this product for the price we paid for it.

Very effective, albeit noisy, cooling...until it conked out after just 2 months – I bought this air conditioner based on the Choice review of portable air conditioners, in which it was recommended. There are a couple of major problems with this model: 1. It's really noisy. The noise volume wasn't a disaster for us, as we bought it for the nursery and it turned out that our baby loved really loud white noise... But it would… Read more

be completely impossible for a normal person (aka adult) to sleep in the same room with it running.

2. It just doesn't last. At first, it was really effective at cooling the room very quickly, but after 2 months of not-very-intensive use (maybe 6 hours/day for three or four days a week) it made a huge clunking noise, after which it rattled and shuddered and eventually blew out only hot air. So back to Bing Lee it goes; thankfully the staff there were extremely helpful. Omega Altise have a replacement warranty, rather than a repair service (does this mean they know that this model is so [censored word removed] that it's not worth repairing?), which means that buyers can choose between a replacement or store credit. Needless to say, we'll be choosing the latter option, as we will definitely not be buying another Omega Altise air conditioner again!

TLDR: Choice reviews appliances based on short-term effectiveness rather than durability. This model is effective at cooling, but it is intolerably noisy and breaks down after a very short period of time. Effective at cooling a small room quickly Really noisy. Broke down after only 2 months.

Piece of junk – I have had my Altise for 4 years this month. The exhaust fan bearing has failed and the fan is hitting the housing, making an unbearable racket. It cannot be fixed . It no longer cools as intended. In that 4 years it was only used in summer, so, in fact, it was only 2 years use, and then not continuously OK when new, still too noisy for a… Read more

bedroom, more suited to an industrial setting Exhaust fan bearing failed,, cannot be repaired, I am in the process of contacting Omega to rectify this problem.

OK Cooler – Bought this a few days ago and it cools a 20sqm bedroom pretty quickly. But it is very noisy even on a low fan setting, especially when the compressor kicks in. Ended up using it to cool the room but then turning it off when going to bed. I haven't experienced the rattling sound as yet like other reviewers have but I'll see after a few more rounds of use Cools a 20 sqm room very quickly Very noisy

Eventually returned the product to HN and replaced it with a split system because we couldn't tolerate the noise any more

Bad – expensive junk. It has 2 years (and I added 2 more years to that) warranty so maybe it'll be fine but it's still annoying. It's not easy to cart around at all. It's cools well. It is noisy. It has always been quite noisy but now, after a week, and I've been carefull with it (I didn't turn it on until a day after I got it and I don't turn it off and then on without waiting), it's making screeching and rattling noises.
