I'm looking at purchasing Orion home security camera's, but – ..going by the questions I've read in this forum, not one from the supplier/ manufacturer, and that dates back a year or more. If there's no follow up to questions people are having with the product, then there's no way I'm purchasing.

Great value – Quite a few negative comments on this camera but that's certainly not the case for me. Easy to install/ Easy to set up to phone and the battery lasts about 3 months between charges. Excellent product for the price. When a 4K model is available I will purchase. Show details

Sd Card Is Now Recording Video On Sc030ha Pan Tilt CCTV, but not any more – My card was not recording so I formatted card using sd formatter on the mac. Not the quick format option but the full format option. I then put the sd card in the camera and formatted it there. Then it started to record. It appears with my 16gb sd card, I was able to record a little bit. the more the card filled up the less I could review. It is… Read more

saying the capacity of the card is .16GB when i think it should be 16GB. Once the card fills up as indicated by the blue line in the timeline (light mode) the app shows nothing. This blue line then disappears. I think it is a software issue. Has anyone else checked the capacity of their sd card as opposed to what the sd card's actual capacity is? I am waiting for a response from arlec.

Potentially a very creepy and dangerous device – First things first . Great little camera . A few little connection issues but nothing major. Good picture and easy to use the app . Now. The big problem . If you stand at your router and measure a 20m circle, let’s say , your wifi range . If your wifi or others wifi overlaps your roof space of the neighbouring house , this device could be placed… Read more

in an A/C duct or a crawl space or a bathroom of the neighbouring property on their own wifi and the listener would be able to hear you from whatever room you are in the house . Battery will last 20 ish days . Disgusting things people do .

Its Actually very good camera and quick enough to my phone – I bought this from Bunnings back in 2020 and I fix it to my balcony corner, I also connect it to a DC 4.5v small mobile phone adapter charger with micro usb to keep it in charge. Since then no problems you just need to know how you set it up. ( enable the Bluetooth on your mobile to pair it; then your wi-fi connection must be 2.4Ghz; and make sure to uncheck the offline in the settings) Show details

Can't connect after six months – Bought this small compact version from Bunnings. Excellent until it just did not want to connect anymore, kept saying device offline. I'm pretty sure it has blown a small cheapass component inside the part because it is left on a continuous basis. Long enough to burn out. A shame we allow others to build items for us, yet absoltely no standards,… Read more

just junk. And worse still to try and make contact, good luck even if you can understand them. They play the game now, we allowed them to build our stuff, now we suffer. Doesn't anyone have some standards of quality and workmanship in the workshop & offices? I will see if i can return as i have no receipt for it. Paid cash too so hopefully the manufacturers warranty helps me.

No repair service no replacement Batteries – Worked ok till they didn't just out of warranty and emailed support can we obtain replacement battery which we think is issue and they no and basically didn't care just a throw away item now , 2nd one not working out of 6 we've bought over the year so a lot of wasted money on something that didn't/wont last long for price. The plug in one we purchased will no longer sync to the wifi again Arlec customer service do not care or want to repair Show details

User friendly good clear motion – I have 2. Clear at night, black and white. Never to sensitive, human detection. Battery lasted aprox 3 months at start then more and more often had to re charge to every coupleof weeks, but now one is 14 months old and won't charge at all. Out of warranty by 2 months. Not happy anymore.

Only lasted 15 months - not reliable – Bought from Bunnings. Seems a good camera for the price, but does not have great battery life. After 14 months, during recharging with the supplied charger, the unit just heated up and would not turn on again. Contacted Arlec customer service to see if it could be turned on again, and advised that if it overheated the battery must be unusable.… Read more

They also advised that as it is not under warranty there is nothing they can do. 3 months out of warranty and they don't want to know about it. I would have expected a unit like this to at least last a couple of years. Will never buy Orion or Arlec product again. Would definitely NOT recomment the Orion Cameras.

Works OK as a remote camera, motion sensor activation is poor – Bought from Bunnings $99 + $42 solar panel. Works reasonably well as a remote camera for the money paid. Clear HD images both day and night. Saw that some reviewers were not happy with night vision, but in darkness quite reasonable (IMO) black and white vision is received. I did have issues with wifi signal strength where I wanted to put the… Read more

camera, so I needed a wifi booster. I think a lot of other reviewers problems are about wifi signal strength. Suggest work with the camera inside where you can confirm good signal strength (using your phone to check wifi signal) to test the camera before installing at final location. Again use your phone to check wifi signal strength at final install location. Important note, these work on 2.4GHz wifi only. Any dual band wifi modem will need to be able to separately name the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks so camera can be connected to it. If 2.4GHz and 5GHz network names are identical camera wont connect. Make sure your modem can do that before buying. Otherwise may have to disable 5GHz to make this work with the cameras. This is not preferred. Slightly annoying is the connection time to see the camera vision through the app...but it takes say 10 seconds. For the price this is acceptable IMO. Also one downside is multiple camera images arent possible on a single screen (AFAIK), so each camera vision needs to be separately connected too, one after the other. The biggest downside of the camera is the unreliable motion sensing. I can walk around in front of the camera and get no motion sensor triggers. Then randomly one will come through. So it doesnt completely not work, but its not reliable. One reviewer has said no evidence provided if motion sensor detected, but my notifications in the app, come with a single still image of the vision at the time of the motion detection. Overall OK as a remote camera, but thats about all. It cant reasonably be described as a security camera (activated by motion).

Good Enough For The Price – Let's just agree that a $100 camera is not going to be as good as a $500 camera. For the price you pay it does what it says on the box - sure, there's no bells or whistles but if you want that you're going to have to pay for it. - easy to connect to the Grid Connect system - provides accurate & timely notifications of movement - day or night -… Read more

daytime image is exceptional and nighttime image is acceptable - wi-fi connectivity can be patchy - no comment on battery life - I have it charged by a solar panel permanently but even a few days of rain will not flatten the battery. - an SD card can be purchased separately so that you can see stored recordings

Overall, a good price to pay for the performance it gives.

Very Good – From Bunnings. Great Price. Wireless. Easy to Set Up. Can view from anywhere in the world. Battery life is only at 60% after 2 weeks. If anything moves that's human within 30m it will warn you. Great coverage. Great for the Gun Safe. For the price, it's a no brainer purchase. Yes, you have to buy an SD card for each unit . . . big deal. Quoted $1000 for one wired unit. That would have been a waste. Show details

Can't record to SD card and poor motion detection – The camera is ok and easy enough to setup. But it's motion detection is poor, often missing activity such as someone walking past. The Android app does not provide a way to continuously record to SD card even though the help says it can. So unless you continously stream and record on a phone you can easily miss a breakin etc. Not really fit for purpose as a security device. Show details

Outdoor camera? I call nonsense! – It’s the second outdoor optional solar camera I’ve purchased for the same outdoor position due to what I thought the first camera being a faulty camera. Not true. The rubber so-called weather proofing casing is in fact NOT weather proof, even though it looks and presents itself on final installation as water tight. All it took was one day of rain… Read more

for the camera to stop working entirely (2nd time in a row) unless it’s under cover it will die in the rain) Most of the time it spent itself offline, had to navigate through the messages and main screen a few times before cameras went on line in order to view live stream, and even then I got the butt end of most events. Waste of money in my opinion. You’d do better with an old camera phone on a stand.

Defeats the purpose of having a security camera. VERY limited functionality – PROS: easy to setup. - Remote connection works well. - Has 2-way audio which operates at a basic level. - Wide field of view. - Image is good in full daylight, but the resolution is low given the angle of coverage. Cons: the housing comes with a magnetic receiver on the back, but there is no magnetic mount in the box nor is there one available… Read more

from bunnings (who stock the orion range) nor have I see one for orion anywhere. - motion detection is hit & miss...Most movement is not recorded, unless its significant movement and then the delay is so great that what needs to be captured is missing. In short: useless. - the video timescale on the bottom of the screen, which you can scroll thru, has no indicators where video has been captured... So totally useless and no value. - No zones can be setup for movement. Even the cheap $20 cameras from china have multiple zones that one can setup to detect movement (this allows unnecessary recording of movement where it is unimportant). No zones.. The only options are high sensitivity, low sensitivity and off... And as mentioned above in high sensitivity it catches bugger all and what it does the delay only catches the tail end. - Night vision. Very poor resolution using night vision. The quality of the image is so low, its of no value. It's better with the night vision off. - battery life - 3-4 days. You need to have a power source for this to be of any value (I have installed a solar panel next to it to keep it powered). This raises the cost by $40 per unit - images - does not email images or motion detected. So if someone decides to grab the unit, kiss your evidence goodbye. Truth is there wouldn't be much evidence on it to be honest. - human filter - makes no difference. Not sure what this is meant to do? Capture human movement? No idea... It certainly does not do face detection. - manual / user guide - useless. No mention of memory capacity limitations, looping or anything one would need to know. - <memory looping - no idea if this does it or not, not mentioned in user manual. - support : none available. Supplier seems to be a family business that grabs cheap technology and repackages it into retail packages. These cameras will end up being vapourware. - downloading video - not possible. You can't actually download the video footage. You have to play in in the app, then hit the record button to record the video that has already been saved to the memory card in the camera. This is totally useless. Serious, the whole purpose of a security camera is so that one can download video or breaches.

At the end of the day, this camera is self defeating. Yes its a camera... But not a security camera. Maybe worth about $20.

Works well, great battery life so far! – I wanted a cheap outdoor completely wireless camera with SD Card recording, and this is exactly what this product does, and it does it really well. I charged it up before installation, I think it only took around 2 hours to hit 100%, and three days later, the charge is still at 100%. For some reason, it's missing some 3M tape to install without… Read more

permanent damage to the installation site, and it also doesn't come with an SD Card. The wireless doorbell from the same manufacturer comes with a 16GB SD Card, and this camera comes with nothing. That completely mystifies me, but you will need to have an SD card of your own to use this camera. It's effortless to set up and add another camera to the phone app, and the picture quality is excellent. Night vision is also good, although it does seem a little over-keen with IR flooding, it took me quite a few test locations to get the night vision right, but it's good if it's not near walls, especially light coloured ones. The sound quality is also nice. Motion detection is good. I haven't had any false detections, but then the area mine is in doesn't see much movement, so I'm yet to tell if it captures human movement well or not. Overall a nice camera with good image quality and battery life, my only whinges would be the lack of SD Card and 3M mounting tape, but these days most people have a spare SD Card and some 3M tape laying about.
