Do not buy any items from Panasonic Australia – Their customer service is extremely poor. We have been facing ongoing issues with a new Panasonic heating and cooling system. This aircon $10k functioned really well for two years from June, 2019, then ran out of gas each year, apparently leaking gas, for three further years. A second similar ducted unit for upstairs functioned well throughout. Panasonic customer service doggedly stuck with me throughout attempting to resolve the issue. Finally, more than 6 years after… Read more ·  1

the installation and outside the 5 year warranty period, Panasonic yet again had another agent do a site visit. This time they quickly identified that our ducted system was leaking gas from one or more holes in the copper gas pipe, unrelated to the Panansonic aircon units. Attached is the video made demonstrating gas detected under the pipe insulation. Since then the original installer has happily replaced the complete pipework with a good outcome. Leaking aircon pipes are an infrequent but known issue that can be detected. They can apparently arise just two years from installation from poor quality copper pipe and/or moisture entering the space between the insulation and the copper pipe. Panasonic customer service persistently stuck with me throughout this saga. LESSON: Choose a good brand and supplier. Resist the desire to get p*ssed off, maintain a patient relationship with the installer and supplier and try to keep working to find a solution.

Would definitely get this unit again if we move house – Had this unit (3 phase) installed in 2016 and to date have not had any issues. Had the MyAir controller included and this certainly made zone control easy with the added benefit of multiple air flow options for each zone. We liked the fan speed control options and the de-humidify option. Show details ·  1

Panasonic Ducted RCAC 12.5kw – We had a Delux Panasonic Ducted RCAC 12.5kw installed at our approx 100m2 home last November. It replaced a gas/evap setup. Its been running very well since then. air within a few mins. This is in contrast with another brand another member of the family had installed. We went with the Conex controller not airtouch which the installer recommended. It maintains steady temp and has a good easy to use app which can be used remotely. It also shows power usage which is useful (unlike airtouch). We have a common zone, and each bedroom and bathroom on separate zone. The unit is very efficient typically using between 6-10 kWh a day. On these very cold days its been using 16-17 kWh a day heating the whole house. Our house does have good wall and ceiling insulation, along with uPVC double glazed windows. So all in all its very efficient, and works really well. Also its very quiet next to the compressor. Quieter than other brands i have seen. Happy to recommend!

Useless for drying out moisture on a humid day – It works as an air-conditioner OK until there is a humid day. Then it does not dry well at all. I rang the company that sold me the Panasonic unit and asked them about it. They said that the Panasonics did not work well in humid conditions and therefore I am stuck with it. All $12000 dollars worth. Why they sell these in Qld. I am sure I do not… Read more

know. I have now discussed this at length with Panasonic. No problem with their customer service. Unfortunately the problem is with the product. There is no dedicated "dry" cycle. Therefore, on a humid day, when the outside temperature is low (see photos attached) there is no good answer to reducing the humidity. Panasonic says to turn the unit onto "cool". This would be OK if the outside temperature was high, but when is is in the low twenties, who would want to turn it onto "cool". If you set the temperature above the outside temperature, then the unit turns off. So you are either stuck with the humidity or freeze to death. I contacted Daikin to ask whether their equivalent unit has a dedicated "dry" cycle. Yes it does. Very disappointed with the Panasonic. If you have days in your area where the humidity is high but the outside temperature is comfortable, don't by a Panasonic if you expect to be able to reduce the humidity and stay comfortable.

Please think twice before you purchase this air conditioning system – The air conditioner failed (Thermostat) after 6 weeks of work. The air conditioner was replaced by Panasonic and failed again with an irregular temperature after 5 weeks. The thermostat is faulty and Panasonic does not bother to repair the unit under guarantee. Think twice to purchase an air conditioner from this company. I suggest you purchase a Daikin and you know what you have. Panasonic (Panasales Australia) has a miserable service. Show details

The worst customer service by Panasales - Money refunds are nearly impossible – I purchased a Wi-Fi attachment for my Panasonic air conditioner. The air conditioner was replaced after some months as to malfunction. The replacement unit failed as well after a short time of service. I have paid Panasales separately for the Wi-Fi item and the payment was deducted at once from my bank account and not via an invoice. … Read more

Nevertheless, this Wi-Fi equipment failed as well. The unit was removed by Panasales service and no excepted refund was issued after four weeks. I complained about the non-payment of the refund. After weeks of phoning and emails, Panasales comes up with all sorts of complications to pay back the owed money. Firstly, they wanted my bank details, after having supplied this, they emailed again to me that they do not give direct VISA bank refunds they only issue cheque payments and this would take 21 business days. The next complication occurred shortly after, Panasales demanded me to supply them with a bank statement containing my personal address details. - For sure they had all the details from me before as they delivered goods and services to my home address. This was again another trick not to repay the owed money. This is now ongoing for two months and I will take the company now to court. Result of my experiences: Never purchase anything from Panasales or Panasonic as you will run into the greatest of difficulties and an enormous waste of time and lose your nerves when it comes to service or worse a refund. I hope you take my experiences into consideration if you think to purchase anything from Panasonic or Panasales.

new unit from a reputable brand?

Panasonic were able to schedule the work in 4 days after the service request was lodged. The technician came out and told me to wait another two weeks for spare parts.

The case has been escalated but i still haven't heard from a case manager.

Unfortunately for us its a week of 30++ degree days in Melbourne, so I had to to fork out more money to buy portable air conditioners to get through the hot days until the faulty unit is fixed

Good Product but definitely room for improvement – I had this unit installed in a 4 bedroom 1 living area house, 6 vents 5 zones with my air 5 controlling the zones. My Goal was to purchase a unit that could cool a whole house when needed but switch down to just a few zones when required. My reasoning for this was I wanted to reduce electricity costs as much as possible. In some ways this unit… Read more

failed at this task. But please keep reading.

I should first start off with the negatives.

1. This unit cannot run just 2 zones due to its large amount of minimum airflow of 600l. As a result, I normally have to run at least 3 or 4 zones otherwise the air coming out of the vents is quite loud.

2. Some aircon units tend to keep the compressor running over the set temperature on the controller. In Panasonics case it can be up to 2c variation. for example, if you set the temperature to 23c the room could get up to 25c before the compressor shuts off. the compressor will then not activate until the temperature drops below 21c. Luckily in my case it is only 1c variation. e.g. room set to 23c the temperature will reach up to 24c before compressor deactivates and 22c before compressor reactivates. I have had Panasonic warranty out and they have confirmed there is nothing that can be done about this issue.

At first, I was genuinely quite frustrated and unsatisfied with the aircon due to the issues listed above but after living with the unit for 2 months I have started to notice some real positives.

Positives

1. Efficiency - I cant believe how efficient this unit is. I live in South East QLD and run 4 zones at night. Once the rooms get to temperature (this happens within 20 minutes) The unit only uses about 0.6-0.8 kwhr. Due to this efficiency, it makes my first negative basically irrelevant. 2. Silent operation - While the air coming out of my vents is louder than I would like the return air and the outdoor unit are incredibly quiet. I would recommend this unit if you live close to your neighbours and don't want complaints regarding air con noise. 3. Ability to Heat and Cool quickly - I find the unit is very fast at cooling and heating the house. 4. MYAir5 - While not a Panasonic product I find the MyAir 5 integrates very well with the Panasonic unit. I enjoy everything about it and am happy that we have this control module.

Overall, I am mostly happy with the Panasonic unit and am happy that I purchased this over say a Daikin or other general Aircon brand. I do wonder though if I should have paid the extra and went with a Actron Unit. Alternatively maybe a 10kw system could have been better fit with reduced airflow.

First Summer of use and 12.5KW system seems to work well – So far my new system is going great. It is a 12.5kw Panasonic with R32 - I researched it and their 12.5kw seemed to have the best balance of efficiency vs. output and worked for our size. unit makes a bit more fan noise when operating than I hoped but I don't have much insulation in the ceiling it sits above - so I think I can remedy that. Heating and cooling output is good and seems to be handling Adelaide summers easily - so far we've had a few days in the high 30s and its done well keeping rooms at 22. Ours is cooling 3 rooms and a bathroom, two downstairs rooms are standard 3x4m bedrooms with single vents but the third upper one is a big 11mx6m room with 3 vents. I got the Airtouch 4 controller as an upgrade - which is good with Alexa and has a good IOS app, but you can not count on the temperature sensor inside the Airtouch wall unit. Mine is always off by 3-4 degrees as the screen unit itself creates heat (at times) - the remote wall mount controllers (ITCs) work much better. Pretty happy overall now - will see how it lasts. I paid just under 12K for a fairly complex ducted install in an older property, it included new electrical runs.

Maintains the house temperature with ease (during Canberra winters) – This is a review for the ducted reverse cycle Panasonic system. Installation included 3 zones to exclude areas not requiring temperature control all the time. The outdoor unit is large and should be installed in an area… Read more ·  2

free from obstructions to have good air circulation around the unit. (See attached photo 1)

The new system can cool the house considerably quickly and I am yet to see it perform during Canberra winters, but when I tested the heating cycle it worked well and heated the house and maintained the temperature. (see update below)

Main reasons to switch was to upgrade from the ducted gas heating system and discontinue the use of gas.

The Panasonic controller is easy to use and switch between cooling and heating. Wish the controller also displayed the current sensed temperature at the controller location. It only displays the set temperature. (See attached photo. I use a $2 temp/humidity sensor to get a rough idea)

Overall I am happy with the Panasonic System's performance in summer and hope it will perform equally well in winter. -------------------

Update June 2022:

The Panasonic ducted reverse cycle system has continued to work well through winter. I am happy with it's performance and it's ability to maintain the house temperature during Canberra winters.

bills more acceptable. I had 3 service calls 1 for there being a incorrect fitting between the 2 units, 1 to fit the feet to the external unit that had been missed at installation, and the final visit was to show me the best settings for efficient cooling. We had the unit for 5 years and 11 months at which point it ceased to work. Panasonic did not want to know and directed me to a company that didn't want to know either if it wasn't warranty work and told me to go to any local repairer. After waiting nearly a month for parts they came and fitted 2 parts which didn't work and told me it couldn't be repaired, this costing $1150.00 with the original service call. Panasonic did not care their after service was non existent. I ordered a new Daikin unit yesterday and it should be installed next week. operating temperature to 25 degrees. The air felt much colder than that. We are careful to only condition the room/s which we are using and so far as I can tell, it appears to be economical with our electricity bill less than we expected. Due to the size of the unit we also don't run the whole house at once and there are not many occasions where we would need to do that either. Most nights cool off enough that we don't need to run the air conditioner into the night. We also have ceiling fans to assist with air movement (this is suggested to amplify the effect of the air conditioner). I researched quite extensively before having this unit installed and I have no regrets about purchasing it. Top product!

got a service company to review the outside unit and without them even taking a panel off the outside unit (which has 2 fans) said that the unit is faulty and I should be looking for a new one. New one? I said I have only used it for 2 weeks running time, over the 5 years. Anyway - dismissed the service tech attitude as nothing more than to try and swindle me for more money on a perfectly working unit that needed some attention. I rang panasonic, and they recommended a service tech in the area. I rang them and they came onsite, took the panel off to inspect the gas lines, and compressor. They found that one of the gas lines - was slightly oily at the connection, (signs of a leak). He tested the pressure for gas and found it had less that 40% gas in the line. So there was a leak at the line, at the connection point. He then went into the roof space and inspected the connections to the indoor fan coiled unit. He noted that these connections in the roof, were free of any oil residue, which mean that there was not leak at the roof end. So he ran a leak test on the outside unit, and returned the following day to test the PSI. He had at the time, slightly tightened the nut at the connection, before performing the leak test. he tested the PSI levels, and then returned the following day to test the PSI levels. Nothing had moved PSI wise and therefore the leak of gas had been resolved. He then cleared the line of all gasses and re-gassed the unit to the appropriate levels. Checked the PSI and checked the running and coolness of the aircon, All was well and a far cry from the initial diagnosis that the unit was a write-off. Therefore be warned.

quiet both inside and outside. It has only been installed a week so I haven’t needed to use it yet. Initial trials reveal that a setting of 22 degrees on a warm setting is too warm on a cool night.

It was recommended that winter setting SB 22deg set on auto and summer setting SB 25 deg set on cool setting. It allows for up to 9 zones which can be individually controlled, some on & some off. Can have the system either on or fully off when not needed - which I like as I ptefer to have doors and windows open when the weather permits. Another great feature is that you can install The MY AIR Control panel. This allows you to control the system from a phone / tablet APP as well as control up to 12 lights in your home from the same APP. This is good if you want to turn lights on and off while you are on holidays or check to see if all lights are off after you leave home. This feature works seamlessly. I can even get lazy and climb into bed and turn the lights / air con on off from my phone / tablet. Can’t wait for summer.

winter and we are very happy with our usage so far. The outdoor unit is not too loud, and the same with the indoor unit in the roof, very happy. We zoned all our rooms and have found that we haven’t really needed to have the bedrooms on as the main area is lovely and warm and the bedrooms don’t feel cold, only on really cold mornings. We run our heating on 20° or 21° depending how cold I’m feeling, and this keeps our house at a comfortable 23°-24°. The fan we have left set to auto as that’s what I read was better for the unit. The house doesn’t take long at all to warm up, even on those freezing mornings/nights. I love the timer, it means I can come home to a warm house, even though it only takes about 10-15 mins to get to temperature. The real test for me will be summer. I don’t like the heat. with 1x in roof unit and 1x pad mounted outside unit all installed in a few hours. This system is quiet, quiet, quiet! and easily keeps our lowset 4 bedroom brick and tile house very cool even on the hottest days. It is efficient too - our summer power bill was less than a third the cost of our previous ducted system - we put it down to firstly the power of the system and to a large degree the inverter technology incorporated in it. Coming home to a hot home is a thing of the past with the timer controller - we set it to turn on only 20 mins before we arrive home from work as even the hottest house is cooled to our preset 24 degree temp within that time period - amazing! multiple zoning is very easy to control from the control pad mounted on the wall and there are many other functions such as dehumidify for times when cooling isn't needed. We are extremely happy with this Panasonic ducted system it really couldn't be better in any way. Bravo! Panasonic. PS We even got a bonus Panasonic 50 inch lcd high definition television set included just for buying before xmas!

7yrs later update. Outdoor unit pc board had fault, no AC middle of summer. The board was extremely expensive and hard to source - cost more than buying and installing a bedroom split system!!. Works well since new board installed.

suggested the 10kW, for a small amount we could upgrade to the 12.5). It works beautifully, is quiet (no neighbour complaints, despite being very close to a common wall on their master bedroom roof) and seriously economical to run.

We've owned a Daikin ducted system before- despite numerous service calls (we installed it new and lived in the house 7yr), it never performed well and cost $$$$ in Winter, so much so, we'd never turn it on. Have had Actron too- much too noisey for our situation, they are like a plane taking off!

No regrets or complaints here, great system, great ongoing value.

perfect temperature all year – this air conditioner was installed to existing ducting in february on a high 30 degree day after the installation was completed it took the unit 15 minutes to take the inside temperature from 38 degrees to 20 degrees in a 3 bedroom house it was recommended by the mechanic who had serviced my old unit which had lasted 14 years , Very pleased with its performance efficiency and cost to run .  Show details

saying that we've moved to a smaller house, with newer insulation.

Otherwise, the outdoor unit is extremely quiet. It is mounted on the wall just outside our living room, and I can barely hear it when the house is silent.

The indoor unit is also fairly quiet and we often forget that we've left it on. Quiet, efficient, effective None that I can think of.
