I’m looking for my first digital radio, and I looked at the Panasonic RF D30 BTEBK, liked the review, etc, then I looked at at the Panasonic RF D10GN. I liKed both radios. The D30 when I checked the price was around $195Aus, the D30 was around the $130 mark. On looking at the reviews I saw one that the D30, you cannot get AM stations. I’m 80 years old, not tech savvy, Can you please advise if this is the case for the D30. It’s around $65 dollars cheaper, but if I cannot get AM stations I’ll have to go back to the drawing board. Thanks. Rob Lenton

Hi Rob. I purchased this radio Sony XDR-S61D DAB. It's a better radio and layout is better than the Panasonic. I threw out the Panasonic RF- D10. I had that for just over a year. I used it about dozen times then it just stopped working. Panasonic only seem to reply to the positive or simple feeds. I wrote a review but never heard a word from them. You would think that if their flagship radio just dies for no reason, they would want to know about it. That did not happen and I was so disappointed.

I would not but a Panasonic again.

Note: All the am stations are on both radios on DAB format so don't worry about getting the stations you like.

Once you learn how to program the buttons you can store all your favourites and get them by just a simple push of the button.

Please note that both Digital Radios consume batteries faster than a standard radios.

Here is a model number of the Sony radio I purchsed.

How do I find 3aw

Rod K

I purchased Panasonic Model RF-D10GN-K nearly 12 months ago. I am happy with it even if it chews up batteries. I now use rechargable batteries. That's ok. My query is that the sound drops out intermittently. Even if I change to a different station nothing happens but the screen indicates there is transmission. If I turn the volume down and then up again it usually starts. Is that likely to be a fault of the radio or is it possibly due to a black spot transmission by the Radio Stations? I am less than 20 km from the Adelaide CBD. There shouldn't be any transmission problems here in my view. Thanks, Rod

I would try 2 things to troubleshoot. 1. Try running it on mains power 2. Try running it somewhere else say at work or a friends house.

Rod K

Thanks, the problem has also occurred when on mains power. It has happened even when the aerial is fully extended. I can also listen unimpeded on mains and battery without the aerial extended at all. An area search for the ABC transmission in the area shows is not the problem. Postcode 5049 SA

I would say it was a fault. Mine has never done this and I am quite a long way from the transmission tower. Can barely get mobile phone reception here but DAB+ comes in clean and crisp.

Hi John, sorry we can't answer exactly what would be the best radio for your specific circumstances and your location to Sydney radio towers.

Hi - I have one of these radios and the display information has died. Now all I get is a blank screen, the light works but there is no display showing at all. It works really well apart from that! Is there anything I can do to bring the information back? Sue

Tim W
Tim W

Hi Sue O, My only suggestion would be to turn it off at the power point then on. There is also a Factory Reset function to reset the unit to factory default setting. If that doesnt work try the manual. There may be something about it in there. external link

Good luck

Sue O
Sue O

Thank you. I can't reset factory conditions without the display :( . I've tried switching off and on at the wall both when the radio is on and when it's off. I think there is a problem overall with the display because it deteriorates rapidly when it does show. There's nothing in the operating instruction sheet (presumably the 'manual') which mentions display problems, only about sound. Thanks for the link, I'll will send a query to their help page.

Can you listen to AM radio in Australia on this device?

Tim W
Tim W

No AM. It’s DAB and FM only.

Fishy1979
Fishy1979

As Tim has mentioned, AM band is not supported on this device, however, my favourite station (ABC Radio) has exclusively been AM for many years but recently added their broadcast to DAB+ which was the whole reason I bought this device. If you have a specific AM channel you like, might be worth seeing if they also broadcast in DAB or DAB+ now. I think most radio stations are doing this now.

can you use rechargeable C batteries with the Panasonic RF-D10 radio?

Roben
Roben

There is no reason why you could not use rechargeable batteries, Howie. However, you would have to remove them from the radio and charge them in a charger which is separate from the radio.

Does this have an earphone plug input?

Faye
Faye

there is a space for a round plug to be inserted. don't know if that would work with an earphone. Don't be fooled by the "portable" wording. The battery life is only approx. 30 hours, which is useless if you are camping or even away for the weekend. I had to replace batteries every 2 weeks, after just using the radio for a couple of hours in the morning. Now I have it plugged into an outlet, meaning it is not portable. That's not convenient for me.

Roben
Roben

Yes it does have an earphone plug input. It's the common 3.5mm one and it works well.

Roben
Roben

Re the batteries. I had no intention of using it with batteries and have never done so. On DAB I have noticed that other radios I have had use batteries in a short time. My radio is permanently plugged into 240V in the kitchen. It is excellent at quickly and easily swapping between the 3 stations I usually listen to.

Can you get 2ch or 1170 am on this radio?

Mick Gags
Mick Gags

I assume you are in NSW so I can't guarantee it but mine picks up all AM / Digital / FM stations quite well If in doubt ask the retailer if you can bring it back ! I previously purchased a Philips and that was useless then I exchanged it for a Sony and that was terrible also so I have to say the Panasonic would be your best bet

Good luck

My radio is breaking up - intermittent sound. What could the problem be?

Peter
Peter

Could be one of two things. It could be a fault (or loose wire) in the amplifier section where the sound is breaking up. On the other hand, it may be that you are right on the fringe of reception and it is the radio signal breaking up. Try moving the radio to different locations.

BuyGeorge
BuyGeorge

Digital radio transmissions can be sensitive to interference from other appliances plugged in nearby. Example: You might be listening to your digital radio (using batteries) close to a plugged in (but unused) electric kettle. It happens to all digital radios at times (not just Panasonic). Hope this helps
