The Pedders dynamic shock test is the main reason I prefer Pedders: It shows up problems that other test methods miss because it is much more objective, detailed and accurate. Pedders used to provide a printout of the test frequency graph as part… Read more
of the report. They no longer do this... although Maribyrnong Pedders took a photo of the graphed frequencies (which appear on screen) and attached them to the report because I asked for a copy. They even offered to run the test again while I watched: This is above and beyond the call of duty. I was was happy just with the pictures (attached) N.B. It looks like the current test is slightly less detailed than the old test i.e. Frequency graph is not as detailed. Maybe this is just the way it's graphed? The extra detail provided by the graph has proved useful multiple times in the past.
$28 for a test (safety check) is a bargain. Previously the test was slightly dearer (covered a few more items but took longer)... and I still thought it was a bargain (try getting a roadworthy check done elsewhere) N.B. Originally it was free (but covered less items and took less time). Admittedly the cheaper the test is the easier it is to justify doing it. $28 is cheap enough not to agonise over the cost. If the test shows a problem we always get Pedders to do the work so the payback is obvious i.e. No point asking someone else who usually can't accurately pinpoint the problem to do the work! It's frustrating dealing with a mechanic who's guessing.
We now know that the shocks are at ~63%... but that this is OK because they're even all around. We're a little concerned that the front wheels seem to be toeing in (the outside is wearing) but this might be due to underinflation. Pedders also suggested that the failure to rotate the tyres regularly would have contributed to the problem.
The report suggested replacing the shocks at some stage but indicated it wasn't urgent. We'll think about it and consider replacing the shocks if the tyre wear problem continues to occur.
The full report was available online... which might be problematic for some people... although I assume they would have printed it out if someone couldn't access it. Personally it was very convenient to access the online report as it was very easy to archive as a pdf.
We've always found it worth paying Pedders a little bit more for a better outcome. We've been using them for decades with excellent results. The one time the shocks failed soon after installation (Hoppers Crossing) they replaced them without any complaints and no extra charges. The one time my sister used a local mechanic he refused to replace a faulty set of shocks when a similar problem occurred: We used the Pedders test (Footscray) to prove the shocks were faulty. The shocks were eventually (>6 months later) refunded under warranty but by the manufacturer not the mechanic (we only got the wholesale price not the retail price or labour). By that time Pedders had fitted a new set of shocks which worked correctly... so we didn't need a replacement.
Pedders have often helped source heavier springs and shocks to replace the originals. This prevents problems from recurring. Pedders did exactly what they claimed to do and then they tested the shocks prior to returning the car to ensure they were performing properly. A mechanic does not have the equipment to perform a dynamic test i.e. The entire car is placed on a ramp and then each shock is vibrated independently at different frequencies. This is much more accurate than pushing on the front and back bumper and seeing how many times the car bounces.
I don't know if every Pedders is as good as the ones we've used... but the shops we've dealt with have been excellent and the staff very helpful: Footscray (later Ravenhall: used many times), Hoppers Crossing (used once) & Maribyrnong (only used them ~2 times).
Using suspension specialists is a good idea (less guessing): It has saved us a lot of money in the long run. We sometimes find a few problems that aren't picked up by the testing... suggesting that the test procedure still has room for improvement. However, Pedders remains the most accurate and they never suggest fixing something that isn't obviously faulty... in fact they're prone to suggesting we don't repair something that we suspect is causing a problem: The problem goes away after we do the repair suggesting we're right.
Very happy to recommend Pedders for suspension related problems.
:-)
P.S. Pedders ought to include a graph of the dynamic testing with each report: A picture is worth a thousand words! It's so easy to do: All it requires is a screen grab (or printout of the graph) at the end of the test. I'm surprised that I even have to point this out.
Follow-up · The explanations Pedders provides are fairly clear and the written report is much appreciated. At the very least you leave knowing roughly how much of a problem you have... or how soon it might escalate into something more serious. They were very willing to answer follow up questions. I have always been really impressed by that. N.B. I have been… Read more
Very Dissatisfied with the advice and service that I have received from Pedders Lawnton. I originally went to the store in February of 2023 because I was having some issues with my 2015 Dmax rear suspension sitting a little low. idea for the weight I carry but it lead to no end of problems with my vehicle as I had gone from the original factory suspension. As I was driving away from the store I noticed that the vehicle was doing a little shudder when I took off from the traffic lights. I returned the vehicle the following day and told them what was happening. I was advised that the issue was because the back end of the vehicle was sitting higher than the front end and the only way to solve that issue was to raise the front end suspension so it was the same as the rear end so I agreed to have the work done. Appeared to make no improvement to the vehicle. Once I had the front end suspension work done I discovered that I was getting uneven tyre ware on the front passenger side. I went back to pedders again told them I was not happy about this and they were adamant that it was 'bump steer' as its a known Dmax issue. I told them this was not an issue until they did work on my vehicle. They agreed to do a free wheel alignment for me. Some time later I discovered that I was still having uneven tire wear on the front left hand side so I decided to take the vehicle to the Isuzu dealer for them to take a look at. I was advised that the work pedders had done had messed up the geometry and I needed to go back to factory specifications to solve the problem. At which point I went back to pedders at Lawnton and said I wanted them to return my vehicle to factory specifications. They declined and said the issue was again 'bump steer' they tried to sell me heavy duty knuckles for my Dmax at a cost of $2500. I declined the offer as I couldn't afford it at the time. Come 2025 I went to a different mechanic and they returned the vehicle to factory specifications suspension and I have had no further issues now I have removed all the pedders rubbish from my vehicle. I am very unhappy with my experience from Pedders. I thought they would be more professional than what they were. I have found management to be very incompetent and unprofessional. They should have offered to return the vehicle to factory spec rather than trying to sell me something else. The owner of the franchise should be ashamed of themselves as they are giving the business a bad name. I would not recommend pedders to anyone! This whole ordeal has been a Waist of time and money.

a poorly diagnosed fault – My Honda Accord Euro was now having a vibration on the front end, more pronounced on a right hand turn under power. earliest booking for a diagnostic on the cars front end condition and specified bushes. The car was delivered and after 5 hours i returned to a diagnostic with no concerns though the vehicle age would require shockers as a good strategy. Payment of $28 was taken with a report to be sent via email when costings had been furnished. Driving home the problem of a vibration was still very apparent. My local Honda repair garage suggested a check by a local Tyre dealership and mechanic look at it. Ad day later i took it to Royal Tyres, the mechanic put in immediately on the hoist and within 3 minutes tells me that the problem is worn CV Joints, and said he would need to order new CV's from Q'Land and it would take 3-4 days and then a morning to change them. 5 days later new were installed and the problem of vibration was fixed. The next day i return to Peddars and asked for the report from the diagnostic done 14 days earlier. The report gave no fault finding on CV joints and no other urgent age related wear required urgently. I mentioned that i had just had installed CV joints and the problem was resolved, so why was the printed report given stating CV's were with NO problem. So to me Peddars are a poor excuse for a Front End Specialist. They will never get my business ever and to have the report for $28 is a sham.
Parts fitted incorrectly, staff lies – Took my car to pedders Ferntree gully for suspension and brakes rebuild. Picked up the car and paid the exhorbitant fees. person telling me that I had caused the damage and argument ensued.
They (manager, mechanic and desk staff) all gave me different answers to why. Telling me it was normal. They ‘fixed’ the issue but the scraping noise still remained. (It did not get fixed at all).
Brake clips had been fitted incorrectly also the backing plate was running on the disc. I had no choice but to replace and repair them myself.
I then took my car to have a roadworthy certificate which was failed due to ‘worn and incorrectly fitted’ link pin bush rubbers. And ‘rear bump stops’ missing.
I went back to pedders and ask why it failed for supposedly new work done. The desk person () then proceed to blame me for the problem. I insisted they had a look.
The manager and the mechanic both inspected the destroyed bushes and their response was ‘I’ve never seen that before’
I also asked where my bump stops had been removed and dissapeared too, they said that I had taken them out…
At this stage I have wiped my hands of pedders Ferntree gully. Three different people telling me three different things.
I have attached photos of the incorrectly fitted retaining washers on both the left and right sides of my vehicle. They had fitted the retaining washers upside down which had cause the rubbers to split.
The response was ‘oh never seen that before’ and said they would refit the link pins and bushes. However the bump stops I would have to pay for new ones.. there is no chance they will be touching my vehicle again
I cut my losses and I took my car home. I went to Bursons and bought the parts and fitted them myself this time correctly.
Beware of pedders Ferntree gully. And if you are unsure ? Just ask the business around them.

I recently had super service from Pedders suspensions in Malaga WA. I have an Imported Mitsubishi Delica D5 which at 180,000 ks, needed some suspension work. Mike & his team went over & above the call of duty to get me back on the Road A.S.A.P – Mike & the blokes at Pedders looked after me 2022 and as a repeat customer it was another great outcome.
Great service at Pedders Geebun – Pedders at Geebung has been excellent helping us sorting out the GVM upgrade on our new ranger . Brian is a real gentlemen and really knows his stuff, the whole team is friendly and helpfull ,
Negative reviews
Firstly this is my honest review so others can assess the outcome. Recently booked in for a wheel rotation and front end alignment with Pedders in Geelong Victoria and after a 1.5 hour wait, I drove away to find no change in the handling of my car. Took it straight back and after another 20-30 minutes, they claimed it was all good. Drove away… Read more
again and still no change. Called them back and they told to bring it back for a third time and they would swap the wheels around. Seemed like a stop gap fix for a job that should have been done 100% the first time, so I didn’t go back and will never again. The TV and radio ads claim Pedders are experts, but sadly not from my experience and the result was $120 down the drain. So would I recommend this service? I’ll leave that your judgement.

Pedders Suspension Hobart - Con men – Took my wife's Ford Territory into Pedders Suspension Hobart, with a noisy left wheel bearing and a mild clunk in the front left suspension when going over potholes. tyres on the inside, down to the wire, so I foolishly went back months later, and said I will need to get the failing parts quoted in the 28 point suspension check replaced, as it still clunked and needs to be sorted before I put on new tyres. They changed out the same upper ball joints and lower control arms they had done previous, and this time also tie rod ends, charged $1300, foolishly again, I paid, thinking at least it will be fixed and I can get tyres and move on, but no, still the same clunk was there, so they then quickly changed out the sway bar ends whilst I waited, free of charge, I drove home, still the same clunk! So I took it back next day, annoyed, and took them for a drive down the road and pointed out the clunking, they said it was definitely the front strut upper mounts, I left the car again, mentioning I was annoyed they had changed out the same parts twice and charged me twice, thinking they will sort this out now free of charge, they changed out the strut mounts rang me and then wanted another $770. I said no, I was not prepared to pay full amount, considering what had already gone on, and would only pay for parts not labour as they had mis-diagnosed, and should have picked this up on the original check before replacing the same parts twice. They agreed and dropped the price to $260, and then in the next breath said, "by the way the clunk is still there", and that they now thought it was lower ball joints and it would cost another $500+. You can't be serious! Nearly $3,000 later, the clunk is still there, I have booked in elsewhere to get it fixed. I am a qualified mechanic, and they have managed to swindle me out of nearly $3000, I wonder how much they would fleece out of my mother or daughter, who have no knowledge of cars and trust what the service provider tells them. Absolute disgrace to the automotive industry, disgusting behaviour
Always get a second opinion ! – Took our car to Pedders Hoppers Crossing for a safety inspection . $28 , only to be told there was approx $4500 worth of work needed for the front end !! Surprisingly, as only 12 months ago we actually had spent $2600 doing the front end .?? We were fortunate enough to get a second opinion , only to be told that NO WORK was actually needed ! So do yourselves a huge favour and steer clear . Show details

????? – Well! If you get anything done at a Pedders store and you're not satisfied with what you've spent your hard earned money on, and then you are unable to resolve the problem at the store - don't think you'll be able to contact pedders head office to have your issue easily resolved! Maybe spend less time trying to be the next Stirling Moss, and more time looking after customers!
Don't go to Pedders if you're not mechanically savvy – The stores are a bit hit and miss. Sometimes the mechanics are good. Sometimes not so good. You'll definitely be told that lots of items need replacing. No matter how many times you return. I was told that a component needed replacing, even though they'd replaced it less than a year ago. Took it to another non branded suspension shop and asked if… Read more
anything needs replacing. They said no. Everything is in good order. Obviously Pedders franchisees are paid commission or make good profit on the pedders components. As they will always try and sell you something. Even if it's not required. As for their shocks and springs... Great if you don't mind a harsh ride. I ended up swapping out for OEM myself. And greasing the poly bushes that they'd not bothered to do. If you don't mind the ride quality of the products and you know what needs doing, then they're not too bad. Just be very wary if you're not into cars and have no experience with mechanical work. You will be ripped off big time.
Car now rides like a truck – My wife had new shock absorbers fitted to a 2007 Rav 4 by Pedders Enoggera. According to part numbers and Pedders website correct parts fitted but there is virtually no movement in rear suspension at all. Terrible ride and it is starting to rattle.
Great work Pedders Joondalup – There was an intermittent metallic knock under my ageing Mercedes car. I then had work done on the transmission and shock absorbers and was told the knock was in the power steering (PS) and would cost between $1200 and $6000. A PS specialist test drove and said it was likely a suspension problem. My usual car mechanic also tested it and said it… Read more
was likely the power steering. Somewhat confused, I took it to Pedders, Joondalup who came with me for a test drive to hear the problem. I picked the car up at the end of the day. They had checked everything, replaced the front sway bar links, tightened a very loose screw under the transmission, and further road tested. It cost $272. I drove home having aimed for all the bits of road and corners which always caused the knock; but just heard normal car sounds. Relief! I rang them to thank them for their work, and sit down and write this review.
Rip off merchants – I had one joint on the front left of my falcon that had a loud creeking noise. I took the car to the and said I wanted the joint replaced. Anyway long story short after spending 3k and picking the car up as I drove away it still had the creek! I did a u turn and went straight back. They said bring it in in the morning. I went back the next morning, they put the car on the hoist and greesed the joint. 30 minutes later I was driving home with a quiet car…….. so what was the 3k bill for? Zack also included a free inspection and adjustment, if needed, after 5000 km, to make sure everything was travelling as it should. It's not often that a business will happily go beyond the warranty period, what really helped was that we were happy to meet half way to get me back on the road.
