Perma Child Safety Superior Swing Gate
1 review
Bub on the move, baby proof time – Baby started crawling and we needed to section off the stairs, we looked at a few and were wondering why some were ridiculously expensive. Minimum requirements we were looking for is no underbar/frame (as this was at the top of stairs and I didn't want a tripping hazard or something that narrows the walkway) and strong (I wanted it to be drilled into the stairs balustrade to withstand toddler stage and a dog - this was imperative).
This comes with just the door itself (mostly steel), brackets and screws (brackets are plastic). Whole thing took a little finessing to fit properly as there is adjustability to counteract uneven banister, but once fine tuned it works well. I have it placed at the top of the stairs opening into the floor.
It does require physical effort to lift the gate to open it over a latch, it's a good thing but people with dexterity issues or are elderly may find it too difficult. I don't think toddlers (who figure out how to open it) would be able to open it so should have longevity and there is very limited give when trying to raddle/lean on gate. While closing the gate can be done single handed, opening requires two hands so not really as advertised.
For the price ($67 at Bunnings) I think this is worth it over more expensive/fancy gates so I would save on those $200 gates at BBnting. FYI if you do find a second hand one or break any brackets, I believe their website sells new brackets making it even cheaper.
